Sam's Eurotrip #25: I'm from Holland! Isn't that veird? - Zaanse Schans

Unfortunately, our time in Amsterdam flew by. But, thankfully, we left enough time to stop and see the windmills! Don't worry, it actually is pretty interesting.

Zaanse Schans is a little town outside of Amsterdam where they have placed and refurbished many original windmills. They line the river and look across to houses that sit on the opposite side of the river. The windmills are still operating and actually owned by people who use them to make a living.

Watch as my family and I explore the inside of one of the windmills and as one of the gears almost breaks and kills us all. We may or may not come out alive!

Trip to Amsterdam, Pt. 4: A Perfect Last Day

Hi Bloggy Friends,

On our last day in Amsterdam Alan and I hopped on a couple of bikes and rode out to a tiny seaside town called Durgerdam. Once there, we biked along the water and made a detour in quaint Ransdorp.

Back in Amsterdam, we hit the Jordaan for dinner and an evening stroll before turning in. We seriously heart Amsterdam. I'm not ready to leave!

Saturday the 15th of September 2018, they closed the storm surge barrier for testing. Location: Hoek van Holland, near Rotterdam. the Netherlands. the Het Keringhuis Publiekscentrum Water

The lowest point in the Netherlands is 22.18 feet below sea-level. So we`re in a constant fight with to keep the water out.
Global warming is making it even harder, but we have some defence. This is the Maeslantkering. A gigantic storm surge barrier. One of largest moving structures on Earth. Each arm is the size of the Eiffel- tower and weigh 6,800 tonnes . Last Saturday they closed it for testing. Very impressive.

Het Drents Museum is er opnieuw in geslaagd om een uniek archeologisch fenomeen van
wereldformaat naar Nederland te halen: de Dode Zeerollen. De vondst van de rollen en het
onderzoek naar de betekenis van de teksten veranderden definitief onze kijk op het
Jodendom en het Christendom.

De teksten op deze wereldberoemde rollen geven ons onschatbare informatie over de geschiedenis en cultuur uit de tijd van Jezus. Sommige van deze teksten zijn nog nooit
eerder aan het publiek getoond. De verrassende vondst van de rollen, het uitgebreide onderzoek en de waardevolle betekenis van de teksten voor de grote wereldreligies vormen samen het complete verhaal van de Dode Zeerollen

De tentoonstelling, die gemaakt is in samenwerking met het Qumran Instituut van de
Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en de Israel Antiquities Authority, laat in totaal zestien originele
manuscripten zien (in twee achtereenvolgende sets van acht) uit de 2de eeuw voor Chr. tot de 1ste eeuw na Chr. Ook alternatieve teksten die niet in de Bijbel terecht zijn gekomen worden getoond.
Daarnaast zijn er ruim 400 bijzondere objecten uit het oude Judea, Masada, En Gedi, Gamla, Jeruzalem en de grotten van Qumran. Deze voorwerpen plaatsen de geschriften in de culturele en historische context van de Grieks-Romeinse tijd. In deze tijd zijn de teksten geschreven en uiteindelijk verborgen tijdens de Joodse opstand tegen Rome (66-70 na Chr.).
