Alte Burg Gmünd in Kärnten
Gmünd in Kärnten is an Austrian municipality of 2 603 inhabitants in the district of Spittal an der Drau, in Carinthia; has the status of city (Stadtgemeinde). In 1868 it incorporated the localities of Reitern and Sankt Nikolai, until then part of the municipality of Rennweg am Katschberg, and in 1872 the territory of the new municipality of Kremsbrücke was separated from its territory, in 1973 it merged with Krems in Kärnten.
Gmünd in Kärnten has a ruined medieval citadel, the Alte Burg (13th century), where some cultural events take place during the summer.
Gmünd owns a small Porsche museum, the Porsche Automuseum Helmut Pfeifhofer, located near the former sawmill where Ferdinand Porsche began building its automobiles after the Second World War. The Porsche headquarters moved later in the Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart) district in 1951.

Nel 1868 ha inglobato le località di Reitern e Sankt Nikolai, fino ad allora parte del comune di Rennweg am Katschberg, e nel 1872 dal suo territorio è stato scorporato quello del nuovo comune di Kremsbrücke, nel 1973 confluito in quello di Krems in Kärnten.
Gmünd in Kärnten possiede una cittadella medievale in rovina, l'Alte Burg (XIII secolo), in cui si celebrano, durante il periodo estivo, alcune manifestazioni culturali.
Gmünd possiede un piccolo museo della Porsche, il Porsche Automuseum Helmut Pfeifhofer, situato nei pressi della ex segheria in cui Ferdinand Porsche iniziò a costruire le sue automobili dopo la seconda guerra mondiale. La sede della Porsche si spostò in seguito nel quartiere di Zuffenhausen (Stoccarda) nel 1951.

Visitors, who come the first time to the wooded hills of St. Peter in Wood, a few kilometers west of Spital at the Drava in Austria, would not suspect that people settled here already in the urnfield culture here. Later, the Celts and the Romans built one of the largest cities of Noricum, Teurnia with about 30,000 inhabitants.
Already in the 4th century the inhabitants were Christians. Presumably Teurnia was a Metropolitan seat, the seat of the Archbishop of inland Noricum. In the 6th century, Bishop Leonianus of Teurnia belonged to the schismatics which did not appreciate the papacy.
The three-nave Episcopal Church is now roofed and open to the public. The connected hospice is covered again with soil. Here are the roots of Christianity in Austria. The nearby modern museum displays many finds from Teurnia, including rare amphorae, reliefs and pieces of jewelry. When we visited the museum, the director of the museum took the time to show us a approx. 2,000-year old Celtic spearhead.
In Teurnia there is yet another special feature. On the valley floor, a second church with an excellent preserved mosaic was found. Presumably the Arians celebrated their worship here, while the Roman Catholic Christians were praying in the Episcopal Church. The motives of the ornament give information about the Christian body of thought at that time.

er die bewaldeten Hügel in St. Peter im Holz, wenige Kilometer westlich von Spital an der Drau in Österreich, das erste Mal besucht, würde nicht vermuten, dass hier bereits in der Urnenfelderkultur Menschen siedelten. Später bauten die Kelten und die Römer eine der größten Städte von Noricum, Teurnia mit ca. 30.000 Einwohnern.
Bereits im 4. Jahrhundert waren ihre Einwohner Christen. Vermutlich war sie Metropolitansitz, Sitz des Erzbischofs von Binnen-Noricum. Der Bischof Leonianus von Teurnia zählte im 6. Jahrhundert zu den Schismatikern, die das Papsttum nicht anerkannten.
Die dreischiffige Bischofskirche ist heute überdacht und für Besucher zugänglich. Das angeschlossene Hospitium ist wieder von Erdreich bedeckt. Hier liegen die Wurzeln des Christentums in Österreich. Im nahe gelegenen modernen Museum sind viele Fundstücke aus Teurnia ausgestellt, darunter seltene Amphoren, Reliefs und Schmuckstücke. Als wir das Museum besuchen, findet der Leiter des Museums Zeit, uns eine 2.000 Jahre alte keltische Speerspitze zu zeigen.
In Teurnia gibt es noch eine weitere Besonderheit. Am Talgrund wurde eine zweite Kirche mit einem hervorragend erhaltenen Mosaik gefunden. Vermutlich feierten hier die Arianer ihren Gottesdienst, während in der Bischofskirche die katholischen Christen beteten. Die Motive des Ornaments geben Aufschluss über das christliche Gedankengut jener Zeit.

In this video we are gonna share you our trip to Friesach, the oldest city in Carinthia Province (Austria). We visited Ruins of the Rotturm and Petersberg Castle. These attractions are very famous for people travelling to Zagreb and recommended for it’s beautiful view from above.
