I fly into Indonesia's second-largest city, Surabaya, over of the east coast of Java.
After checking into the colonial-rich Hotel Majapahit, I set off to see the sights of the city, including a Snake-Crocodile Monument, an unusual Chinese mosque, Heroes Monument, the Al-Akbar Grand Mosque, Bamboo Monument, the Submarine monument and the spectacular Grahadi Building, I finish of the evening by having a Bintang Beer in a rooftop bar.

Indonesia Destinations Tourist - Heroes Monument Of Surabaya – Indonesia Trip
The Heroes Monument (Indonesian:Tugu Pahlawan) is a monument in Surabaya, Indonesia. It is the main symbol of the city, dedicated to the people who died during the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945. The 10 November Museum is located under the monument.
This monument is 41.15 meters tall and is phallus-shaped. It was built to commemorate the events of 10 November 1945 at the Battle of Surabaya. It is the venue every November 10 for the commemoration of the events of 1945, when many heroes died in the war of independence.
The first stone was laid by Sukarno, the first Indonesian President, accompanied by Surabaya Mayor, Doel Arnowo on 10 November 1951. It was officially opened one year later, also by Sukarno, on 10 November 1952 witnessed by Surabaya Mayor, R. Moestadjab Soemowidigdo.
The 10 November Museum was built to explain the meaning behind the Heroes Monument. The building consists of 2 floors, with exhibitions symbolizing the spirit of the Surabayan people's struggle. There is an auditorium on the second floor. The museum contains reproductions of documentary photographs, and there are dioramas that presents eight events that happened around the 10 November 1945 clashes.

Surabaya is a port city on the Indonesian island of Java. A vibrant, sprawling metropolis, it mixes modern skyscrapers with canals and buildings from its Dutch colonial past. It has a thriving Chinatown and an Arab Quarter whose Ampel Mosque dates to the 15th century. The Tugu Pahlawan (Heroes Monument) honors the independence battles waged in Surabaya’s streets in 1945.The waterside Kapal Selam monument displays a Soviet-made submarine once used by the Indonesian navy. At the House of Sampoerna cigarette factory and museum, workers hand-roll high-end clove cigarettes. The city’s shopping options range from glitzy, multilevel shopping malls to overflowing, chaotic bazaars, and its food scene from street stalls to upscale, international restaurants. On the city’s outskirts, the modern, enormous Al-Akbar Mosque, with its distinctive blue-green domes, offers an elevator ride to the top of a minaret with panoramic views.

The climate is tropical, warm and humid year-round. Dry season is Jun–Oct. Rain and storms are common Nov–Apr. Hari Pahlawan (Heroes’ Day, Nov 10) commemorates the 1945 Battle of Surabaya, between the British and pro-independence forces.

Submarine Museum Near Me At Surabaya - Indonesia Tourism Guide
Submarine Monument, or abbreviated as Monkasel, is a submarine museum in Embong Kaliasin, Genteng, Surabaya. Located in the center of the city, this monument is actually a KRI Pasopati 410 submarine, one of the Soviet Republic's Indonesian Navy fleets in 1952. This submarine was once involved in the Battle of the Aru Sea to move West Irian from Dutch occupation.
This submarine was started to be brought ashore and taken a monument to be celebrated by talented Indonesian heroes. Monkasel is on Jalan Pemuda, right next to Plaza Surabaya. In addition to submarine interiors, there is also a film screening about the process of warfare that took place in the Aru Sea. If you want to visit this tourist spot, it will be accompanied by a local guide who is there.
There is a unique story behind the presence of this submarine monument. On the night Pak Drajat Budiyanto who was a former KKM KRI Pasopati 410 (made in Russia) and also a former KRI 401 KKM (made in West Germany), dreamed of being ordered by the KSAL at that time to ship the submarine navigating Kali Mas. Apparently the dream became a dream. He was assigned to display submarines next to Surabaya Plaza. You do this by cutting the submarine into several parts, then transporting it to land, and arranged and reconnected to become a submarine intact.

This place was placed at the north of Surabaya so it's called with NORTH QUAY. You can find this place in google maps. Good relaxing area by the port. Free space, but not much to do since it was just an open space with very limited seatings area. You can walk around and enjoy the view, probably around 1hour top.
Port of Tanjung Perak or North Quay Harbour is the second busiest sea port in Indonesia, located at Surabaya, East Java. It is the main port for the eastern part of the island of Java. The port is accessed from the North through the Madura Strait, a 25 mile long, 100m wide and 9.5m deep channel between East Java and Madura Island. Because of its strategic position and the existence of surrounding advantageous hinterlands, the port constitutes the center of inter island shipping for Eastern Indonesia. Container terminal of the port is known as Terminal Petikemas. The port is being dredged to 14 metres (46 ft) depth to serve 10,000 teus 5th generation ships to be finished in mid-2015, while 16 metres (52 ft) depth with width 200 metres (660 ft) can serve 15,000 teus or 7th generation ships to be finished in mid-2016.
