TOP 10 THINGS TO DO - GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: Before deciding on visiting Currumbin and holding a koala, I did my research. We decided on visiting Currumbin because we believe in what they are doing to rescue and save injured wildlife. We even visited the hospital they have there and witnessed an operation on an injured Lorikeet. At the sanctuary, I spoke with the lady who you'll see in the video about the koalas personality and how they respond to being held. This lady works day in an out with these rescued koalas and knows them very well. The lady assured me that the koala I would get to hold (who's name is Emily) was born and raised at the sanctuary and has interacted with humans her entire life. You should have seen the love the lady and Emily shared. Those two were nearly inseparable, kissing each other and resting their heads on one another. It may look like I'm holding Emily, but in fact I'm standing very still with my hands in a certain position, letting Emily hang on and interact with me rather than the other way around. At one point she starred me in the face and pressed her nose on mine. I just about died. I felt good about the experience and that Emily looked and felt quite content, curious even! I wouldn't however have done this just anywhere, and I sure would never hold a wild koala. The reason why I'm telling you all of this is because I care and love all animals and never want to promote their exploitation but rather conservation. Please before you decide to interact with any animals in any country, do your research beforehand.

Sidney is a town located at the northern end of the Saanich Peninsula, on Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is one of the 13 Greater Victoria municipalities. It has a population of approximately 11,583. Sidney is located just east of Victoria International Airport, and about 6 km south of BC Ferries' Swartz Bay Terminal. The town is also the only Canadian port-of-call in the Washington State Ferries system, with ferries running from Sidney to the San Juan Islands and Anacortes. Sidney is located along Highway 17, which bisects the town from north to south. It is generally considered part of the Victoria metropolitan area.
The town west of Highway 17 (also called Patricia Bay Highway) has a mixture of single-family residences and light industry. The majority of the town is located east of Highway 17. The island-studded Haro Strait, part of the Salish Sea forms Sidney's eastern boundary. There is a large boating and marine industry in the area, ranging from marinas to boatbuilders and marine suppliers.
Sidney's main attraction is its position on the Salish Sea. Sidney-by-the-Sea is the gateway to the southern Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, and is a popular eco-tourist destination, with whale-watching, bird-watching, kayaking and scuba-diving. It is home to the new Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre. Shoal Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary is located within Sidney and the adjoining Sidney Channel Important Bird Area, an internationally recognized site important to a variety of seabirds and waterfowl.
Sidney has its own local history museum, the Sidney Museum and Archives, which features displays about the history of the surrounding Peninsula as well as numerous temporary exhibits. As home to the Victoria International Airport Sidney also hosts the British Columbia Aviation Museum which features displays, artifacts, restored historical aircraft and an ongoing vintage aircraft restoration workshop.
During the summer, Sidney hosts a very popular street market on Thursday evenings on the main street (Beacon). Sidney days is another popular event that occurs at the beginning of July. To celebrate, Sidney has a parade, a popular build-a-boat contest, a small fair and fireworks in the evening. In the winter, Sidney has a holiday parade as well as a lighted sailpast boat parade. Sidney has many dining places including Greek, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and west-coast restaurants. Sidney has a well maintained boat ramp for trailerable boats with a dock for queuing up, it is located next to the Washington state ferry terminal.

North Sydney And Sydney Mines Cape Breton Nova Scotia (Music By Dave Matthews Band You And Me)
North Sydney (2001 pop.: 6,775) is a community in Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Located on the north side of Sydney Harbour, along the eastern coast of Cape Breton Island, North Sydney is an important port in Atlantic Canada as it is the western terminus of the Marine Atlantic ferry service. It acts as the marine link for the Trans-Canada Highway to the island of Newfoundland, which is why North Sydney's nickname is called The Gateway To Newfoundland.
Marine Atlantic ferries currently operate from North Sydney's terminal to the ports of Port aux Basques and Argentia. The company is one of the largest employers in the area.
History
North Sydney emerged as a major shipbuilding centre in the early 1800s building many brigs and brigantines for the English market and later moving on to larger Barques and, in 1851, the full rigged ship Lord Clarendon, the largest wooden ship ever built in Cape Breton. Wooden shipbuilding declined in the 1860s but the same decade saw the arrival of increasing numbers of steamships drawn to North Sydney for bunker coal. By 1870 it was the fourth largest port in Canada dealing in ocean-going vessels, drawn for coal and due to the fact that The Western Union cable office had been established here in 1875. The railroad came to Cape Breton Island in 1891. At this time there were 2,513 people in North Sydney, compared to 2,417 in Sydney.
In 1898 North Sydney was chosen by the Reid-Newfoundland Company as the Canadian mainland terminal for a ferry service to Newfoundland; in June of that year the SS Bruce sailed from Port Aux Basques, it was the first ship to make that run.
World Wars
During the first and second World wars, North Sydney played an important role in the relay of information from Europe to both Ottawa and Washington. North Sydney was home to a Western Union Cable office. It was here where coded messages were sent from overseas then relayed on to the rest of North America.
On the morning of November 10, 1918, the office received a top-secret coded message from Europe. It stated that effective at 11 am the next day (November 11, 1918) all fighting would cease on land, sea and in the air.
Therefore the people of North Sydney, in particular Mrs. Annie Butler Smith, were the first to know about the end of the Great War. It is reported that on the night on November 10, 1918, over 200 servicemen celebrated by marching through the streets of the town to celebrate the end of the war, one day before the rest of the world knew.
Sydney Mines (2001 population: 7,312) is a former town in Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Sydney Mines Founded in 1784 and incorporated as a town in 1889, has a rich history in coal production, although mining activity has now ceased.
Geography
Sydney Mines in Nova ScotiaSydney Mines lies immediately northeast of North Sydney and faces Sydney across Sydney Harbour. Sydney Mines was once a major coal-producing community. Mining began locally in 1766, and in 1830 systematic operations were undertaken. One of the area mines extended about 5 miles (8 km) out under the sea. The last mine was closed in 1975.
As of 1991, the population was 7,551. The current demographics map Sydney Mines at 95% caucasian (White), and 5% Jamaican (Black).
Sydney Mines is on the northern side of Sydney Harbor, near the mouth. It was earlier known as the Mines due to the coal mines abundant nearby. Although mining has been carried on since 1724, the first shaft for the General Mining Association in Sydney Mines was sunk in 1830. Manufacturing enterprises included corrugated steel culverts and the British Canadian Co-operative Society Limited, operating a dairy and a bakery.

Madeline Update/Wentworth Park
Episode 13: Now that we're into the official beginning of spring I think it's high time I begin promoting all the great tourist attractions we have here in Cape Breton! Today's episode is on Wentworth Park, probably one of the most relaxing spots in downtown Sydney with a lot of interesting history, too. :)
