Szczyrk is situated in the mountain range of Beskid Śląski, 460-600 m above sea level, in the deep valley of the river Żylica. Is surrounded from the north by the mountain group of Klimczok (1119 m above sea level) and from the south by Skrzyczne (1257 m above sea level) - the highest mountain in the Polish part of Beskid Śląski.
Szczyrk is popular and well-known for its excellent climatic conditions both in summer and winter. Sheltered from the winds and exposed to the sun it offers excellent snow conditions. It is the starting point of numerous nature trails and cycling routes. It has the largest number of ski lifts and ski runs in Poland: 27 ski lifts (2 chair lifts, 25 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 702 metres (2304 feet) of vertical descent. Szczyrk has 27 pistes covering 40 km. For those who prefer cross-country skiing there are six routes with a combined distance of just under 40km.
In order to ensure the best snow conditions in large parts of the slopes are snowed by a system of artificial snow. Gateways support contactless ski pass system.
There are two Airports (Kraków and Katowice) within two hours drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Szczyrk are perfectly feasible.
Szczyrk znany jest przede wszystkim jako kurort i ośrodek sportów zimowych. Jest zimową stolicą Beskidów, a pod względem ilości wyciągów należy do ścisłej czołówki krajowej. Z większości wyciągów można skorzystać bez odpinania nart. Są tu również cztery skocznie narciarskie oraz trasy biegowe. Tereny zjazdowe o różnorodnym stopniu trudności mogą zaspokoić nawet najbardziej wybrednych, tym bardziej, że nie ma tu silnych wiatrów, tak dokuczliwych w Tatrach czy Karkonoszach. Snowboarderów spotkać najczęściej można przy wyciągach Ośrodka Narciarskiego Czyrna-Solisko, COS, Beskidek halfpipe na Hali Pośredniej, trasach licencjonowanych przez Międzynarodową Federację Snowboardingu (ISF). Wyciągi Szczyrku zgrupowane są w kilku ośrodkach. Największe z nich to Ośrodek Narciarski Czyrna-Solisko (ONCS) i Centralny Ośrodek Sportu (COS). Oba kompleksy znajdują się na północno-zachodnich stokach grzbietu Skrzycznego. Uzupełnia je kilka zlokalizowanych w tym rejonie wyciągów prywatnych. Pozostałe trasy zjazdowe można znaleźć w Szczyrku Biłej i na Białym Krzyżu tuż pod Przełęczą Salmopolską.

Зимний курорт Щирк является крупнейшим центром зимних видов спорта и отдыха в Польше и признан зимней столицей Бескид. По количеству лыжных объектов и трасс горнолыжный курорт Щирк может конкурировать с известными альпийскими центрами. Полноценный горнолыжный отдых в Щирке обеспечивается достаточным количеством подъёмников, большинством из них можно пользоваться, не снимая лыж. Здесь имеются четыре трамплина и беговые трассы, а горнолыжные трассы способны удовлетворить самых опытных и требовательных горнолыжников.

Pokazanie różnorodnej, fascynującej, i jak najpiękniejszej Polski z punktów widokowych, z których nikt do tej pory nie robił zdjęć. Czy to możliwe?
Przed takim wyzwaniem stanęliśmy w sierpniu 2016 roku dzięki firmie Emitel, obsługującej prawie wszystkie maszty telekomunikacyjne w Polsce. Maszty rozsiane po całym kraju, dzięki którym nawet do najdalszych jego zakątków docierają sygnały radiowe i telewizyjne.
Naszym zadaniem było wspięcie się na 10 wybranych masztów i wykonanie z nich fotografii oraz filmów ukazujących piękno roztaczających się z nich widoków. Najwyższy z nich, w Miłkach pod Giżyckiem, miał 320 metrów - jest 100m wyższy od Pałacu Kultury!
Aby wykonać zdjęcia musieliśmy przejść badania wysokościowe, specjalne szkolenie z pracy na wysokości, oraz zaopatrzyć się w odpowiednie oprzyrządowanie - uprzęże, asekuracje, etc., w którym zdobywaliśmy kolejne wysokości. Nieraz wspinaczka na szczyt zajmowała ponad godzinę czasu!
W ciągu 23 dni przejechaliśmy łącznie ponad 3000 kilometrów na trasie: Warszawa - Kazimierz Dolny, Święty Krzyż, Sandomierz, Zamość, Rzeszów, Krynica Górska, Zakopane, Skrzyczne, Śnieżne Kotły, Poznań, Świnoujście, Krynica Morska, Giżycko, Gdańsk, Warszawa.
Spotkaliśmy na naszej drodze wielu życzliwych ludzi, którzy pomogli nam w podróży i we wspinaczce. Wszystkim z całego serca dziękujemy!
Nie mogliśmy nie skorzystać z takiej okazji na sfotografowanie naszego kraju i poznanie miejsc, w których jeszcze nas nie było. Dzięki tak intensywnej podróży spojrzeliśmy na Polskę przez pryzmat jej krain - od winnic pod Sandomierzem, przez wysokie tatry, średniowieczne zamki nad Jeziorem Czorsztyńskim, zupełnie inne góry na zachodzie kraju, aż po krainę wielkich jezior i szlachetny Gdańsk.
Polska to piękny, dumny, i szalenie różnorodny kraj, z którego możemy i powinniśmy być dumni. Widać to szczególnie z perspektywy wysokościowej. Tym właśnie doświadczeniem chcieliśmy się z Wami podzielić.
Dziękujemy firmie Emitel - a w szczególności P. Annie Bieniak oraz Waldemarowi Sromkowi - za możliwość przeżycia tak fantastycznej przygody.

Up and around the Czantoria Wielka mountain, Poland
This film shows my visit to the Czantoria Wielka (Velká Čantoryje) mountain on the border of Poland and the Czech Republic in the Silesian Beskids range.
The Czantoria Wielka mountain straddles the border of Poland and the Czech Republic reaching a height of 995 meters. It is the highest mountain in the Czech Beskids - there are higher peaks on the Polish side. One can walk up it although it is quite steep on the east and west sides with easiest access being from Ustron. Those not up to the three hour or so hike, can take the chair lift up.
I arrived at the base by bicycle having left my van on site in Ustron. However there is a large car park immediately below the chair lift.
The chairlift was completed in 1967 and is today run by the town of Ustron. The journey up the mountain is six minutes. The mountain can be hiked from both sides of the border, though the Polish side offers easier access to the summit from Ustroń. Here one can visit a collection of birds of prey or have a go on the bobsleigh. The bobslieigh is not as fast as it may appear - I managed to film it. Indeed the one thing where one has an unusual sensation is at the end where the sleigh is picked up by a pole and pulled back up the slope!
From the chairlift to the summit is another twenty to thrity minutes hike uphill and if one is still feeling a need for more height, there is a 29 metre high lookout tower on the Czech side of the mountain which costs CZK35 (about EUR1.50). The trails are well marked and clear, one can descend on foot which would take around two to three hours. For those who did not bring their own food, there are a number of places where one can eat both Czech and Polish food as well as beers from the two countries!
The mountain hut was constructed in 1904 by the German tourist association Beskidenverein, and was named Erzherzogin Isabella Schutzhaus in honor of Archduchess Isabella of Austria. (The mountain was then within the territory of the Austro Hungarian Empire.) Following the break up of the Austro Hungarian Empire at the end of WW1, the new border between Poland and Czechoslovakia was established running across the mountain.
As can be seen in the film, mostly coniferous trees grow on its slopes. Parts of the mountain forest have been protected since 1998, particularly those parts with fir-beech and spruce-beech forest. Trees within this region include silver firs, beech, yew, sycamore and Norway spruce. Some of these trees are more than 200 years old.
Plant life includes the broad bucklerfern, male fern (Dryopteris filix-mas), hard shield fern, lady fern and oak fern. There are also snowdrops, martagon lily and willow gentian.
A large population of the blue slug lives on the mountain. The stag beetle can still be found here and the purple emporer flies over the open forest areas at lower elevations.
Vertebrates include the fire salamander, viviparous lizard and adder. Birds include honey buzzards, raven, nightjar and nutcracker. The black woodpecker and many other woodpeckers nest in hollows in the old trees. Mammals include the Alpine shrew, northern birch mouse, fat dormouse and forest dormouse. Wolves and lynx can be found and according to information available on the site, bears can appear - although I do not understand where they are coming from!

FIRST DAY: we climbed Barania Góra and did some trekking in the surroundings
SECOND DAY we've started with a walk in Wisła city and then we did some trekking from Biały Kamień to Miedziana Skała nearby.
PLACES TO EAT:
When you come back from Barania góra on your way to Chatka na Pietraszonce there is a mountain shelter Przysłop. You should try their Polish dishes from great soups to fresh home made dished. Also there is a variety of beers and my beloved gluhewein available :)

Great example of good polish food, nice atmosphere and service.
For sure there is much more to see in Silesian Beskid. I’ll go back there to see more if its beautiful landscapes and give you more hints on where to go for your weekend trip!
