Taiping is a town located in Larut, Matang and Selama District, Perak, Malaysia. It is located approximately 48 km northwest of Ipoh, the capital of Perak, and 78 km southeast of George Town, Penang. With a population of 245,182 , it is the second largest town in Perak after Ipoh, the state capital. Taiping took over Kuala Kangsar's role as the state capital from 1876 to 1937, but was then replaced by Ipoh. Its growth slowed down after that, but in recent years the town has been developing rapidly again. Perak State Museum is located in the town.   • 1. Taiping War Cemetery Taiping
    The Taiping War Cemetery is the final resting place for Allied personnel who were killed during World War II, particularly the Malayan Campaign and the Japanese occupation of Malaya. Servicemen who died after the war or during their posting in northern Malaya prior to the Malayan Emergency are also interred here. The cemetery is located in Bukit Larut, Taiping, Perak, Malaysia and was erected and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. There are more than 850 World War II casualties commemorated in this cemetery, including more than 500 who remain unidentified.

  • 2. All Saints' Church Taiping
    The All Saints Church is a church in Taiping, Larut, Matang and Selama District, Perak, Malaysia. It was the first church in the Federated Malay States, founded in 1886 . Located on Taming Sari main road, the church sits in the outskirts of Taiping. The church features a timber facade and gothic architectural design, with a small adjacent cemetery. Its cemetery is laden with beautifully crafted tombstones of European settlers and young servicemen who did not make it home. It is considered one of Malaysia's precious heritage sites.

  • 5. Taiping Prison Taiping
    The Taiping Prison was established in 1879 and is the first and oldest modern prison complex in Malaysia. It was also the largest prison complex at the time. In 1881 Sikh warders were brought in to assist Malay warders and vocational trainers were brought in from Hong Kong to introduce useful industry in the prison.
