Theriso is a village and former municipality in the Chania regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Chania, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 74.106 km2 . It was part of the former Kydonia Province, which covered the central part of Chania Prefecture. The town of Theriso is located to the south of Chania at the top of the Theriso gorge. The 14 km drive up the gorge is considered spectacular and is popular with Chania residents for the cooler temperatures and grill restaurants of the village. 1. Lake Kournas Kournas
Lake Kournas is a lake on the island of Crete, Greece, near the village of Kournas. It is in the Apokoronas municipality of Chania regional unit close to the border with Rethymno regional unit, 47 km from the town of Chania. Kournas is a fairly large village perched on a hill overlooking the lake. Crete's only freshwater lake, Lake Kournas, is relatively large, with a perimeter of 3.5 km. Although almost all touristic leaflets say that it is possible to walk around the lake, that is not true. At least not at the end of the rain season . There is a nature preserve on the Southwest of the lake. But there is a rustic road from the North of the lake to the Hills on the West of the lake too. Bike Touring in Greece - Bicycle touring movie

Crete | Chania Region

Crete | Chania Region. Crete is unlike other Greek islands in that it has a clearly-defined feel and culture of its own. And if you get there via Chania, either by air or by passenger ferry, the Cretan feel is very intense.
There is enough to see in the town of Chania itself. But the Chania region covers the whole western bit of Crete, with its superb beaches and mountains and myriad villages waiting to be explored.
The oldest monastery in Crete, the Gouverneto, almost rubbing shoulders with the airport at Chania, is worth a visit for sheer atmosphere that reminds some people of old Spain or Mexico.
There's Kastelli beach and another idyllic one at Falassarna which are remote enough for even the most jaded tourist.
We've only just scratched the surface.
