Η περιοχή κερδίζει τον επισκέπτη από την πρώτη στιγμή ξεκινώντας από τις χρυσαφένιες αμμουδέρες μέχρι το μυθικό φαράγγι της Νέδας. Οι φιλόξενοι κάτοικοι είναι έτοιμοι να σε μυήσουν στην ιστορία του τόπου τους και να σε κεράσουν τοπικά εδέσματα. Στην περιοχή υπάρχουν οργανωμένοι ξενώνες,εστιατόρια, καφετέριες και τοπικά προϊόντα.

This video aims at showing the wider area of Figalia, its archaeological sites, rich new history and its natural wealth.
It is located 54km from the city of Pyrgos and 51km from Olympia. The history of the area begins from the ancient times,
The area wins the visitor from the very beginning, starting from the golden sandy beaches to the canyon of Neda. The hospitable inhabitants are ready to introduce you to the history of their place and to taste local dishes.
There are organized guesthouses, restaurants, cafes and local products in the area.

Second Stop : TEMPLE OF APOLLO EPIKOURIOS
The Temple of Apollo Epikourios is one of the largest and best-preserved temples in Greece. Pausanias, a Greek geographer from the 2nd AD wrote that the temple of Apollo Epikourios was built in the 5th century BC (from 420 to 400 BC) by Iktinos, the most famous architect, who also built the Parthenon. It had the oldest Corinthian capital ever found and remains notable for its unusual combination of the Corinthian, Ionic and Doric styles
The temple remains largely intact, due in large part to its remote location but why was it built in such a remote location, which not long ago could only be reached after several hours of steep mountain walk remains a mystery.
Pausanias writes that the villagers of Figalai built this temple in honor of Apollo the healer (Epikurios) who saved them from a plague epidemic. How the people of Figalia, a small village, were able to raise enough funds to build such a large monument (40 m x 16 m) and to hire such a prestigious architect as Iktinos remains another mystery.
Mathematic Stelios Petrakis discovered that the temple was built so that each time slipping on the Vassos with specific angle such that it is against 50.2 seconds of arc every year aiming to same stellar point due to the motion axis of the earth.
If you ever come to Greece and you want to reach the Temple of Apollo Epikourios and If you are in Olympia, there are two choices.
a. You can drive to Pirgos (17 km) and then drive southwards along the coast on E55 to Tholos (42 km). The first part is on main roads. What follows is on a small road. In Tholos, turn left to Lepreo, Kato Figalia, Merivolia. After 40 km, which, altogether makes 100 km from Olympia, you will finally reach Bassae.
b. Alternatively, you can drive to Kréstena and Samiko where you will find the road described under 1). This will save 23 km but most of the route is on small roads.
Third Stop : NEDA RIVER
Αmidst the peaks of Mt. Tetrazio, at the northern end of Messinia, Neda, the only female-gender river of Greece, flows towards the gulf of Kiparissia. Neda has formed the natural boundary between Achaia and Ilia for ages, ever since the Dorian tribes, Heracles´ descendants, took over the Peloponnese with their iron weapons. The waters of Neda begin their journey from the numerous springs at the foot of Mt. Lycaeon, near the village of Petra; they meet with tributaries and streams from the nearby mountains; they follow an amazing, meandering course through narrow gorges, cool clearings and verdant ravines; they flow under arched, stone bridges and through dark caves and falls, to the fertile meadows of the Kiparissia Gulf, covering a distance of 32 km. The history of the beautiful and picturesque villages on the hills is intertwined with the clear waters of the river. These are places that sheltered extraordinary civilizations, glorious monuments and sanctuaries, battles and heroic feats fertile and hospitable places, beautified by human love and toil. Neda and its villages - true gems of the Greek nature - maintain a rare, exotic beauty and give a new meaning to the words recreation and relaxation.
