Capulin Volcano National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located in northeastern New Mexico that protects and interprets an extinct cinder cone volcano that is part of the Raton-Clayton Volcanic Field. A paved road spirals around the volcano and visitors can drive up to a parking lot at the rim. Hiking trails circle the rim as well as lead down into the mouth of the volcano. The monument was designated on August 9, 1916 and is administered by the National Park Service. The visitor center features exhibits about the volcano and the area's geology, natural and cultural history, and offers educational programs about volcanoes. An exposure of the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary is visible in the southern part of the park. A portion of the mountain route of the Santa Fe Trail runs through the park.

Spring Trip from Colorado Springs to Trinidad, CO 3-29-30-2017

Great Sand Dunes Colorado USA / June 2015

Great Sand Dunes National Park is at the foot of Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Approximately 38 miles northeast of Alamosa, Colorado. Legends says, wagons trains have vanished among the dunes. Some dunes are 750 feet high and strange creatures inhabit the inner areas. At the dunes sleds and sand boards are available for rent.

Texas to Colorado Roadtrip

This was the longest 15hrs, but we made it in one long drive with minimal stops. Driving from Texas through New Mexico into Colorado to start a new adventure.
