Nidaros Cathedral is a Church of Norway cathedral located in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is built over the burial site of King Olav II of Norway and Saint Olav , the King of Norway in the 11th century, who became the patron saint of the nation, and is the traditional location for the consecration of new Kings of Norway. It was built over a long period of 230 years, from 1070 to 1300 when it was substantially completed. But additional work, additions and renovations continued occasionally intermittently for seven more centuries until 2001, and designated as the cathedral for the Diocese of Nidaros in 1152. Ilen Church is a parish church in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the Ila area in the city of Trondheim, on the 250-metre wide isthmus between the river Nid and the Trondheimsfjord. It is the church for the Ilen parish which is part of the Heimdal og Byåsen in the Diocese of Nidaros. The stone church was built in a cruciform style in 1889 by local building company of Digre, according to a design by Trondheim based architect Eugene Sissenére . The church seats about 550 people, although it originally fit about 900. The seating was reduced to meet the fire regulations. The building was consecrated on 7 June 1889. Lademoen is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is situated the borough of Østbyen, about 2 kilometres east of Midtbyen, the city centre of Trondheim. Lademoen was incorporated into the city of Trondheim in 1893. The neighborhood is the site of Lademoen Church . The area is served by the Trøndelag Commuter Rail with access at Lilleby Station. All buses east of town stop at Lademoen. Between 1893 and 1988 the Trondheim Tramway had a tram route from the city centre to Lademoen, which was expanded to Lade in 1958.

Olaf II Haraldsson , later known as St. Olaf , was King of Norway from 1015 to 1028. He was posthumously given the title Rex Perpetuus Norvegiae and canonised at Nidaros by Bishop Grimkell, one year after his death in the Battle of Stiklestad on 29 July 1030. His remains were enshrined in Nidaros Cathedral, built over his burial site. His sainthood encouraged the widespread adoption of the Roman Catholic / Christian religion among the Vikings / Norsemen in Scandinavia. It is located along the Stjørdalselva river, just east of the Trondheim Airport, Værnes. It is the church for the Stjørdal parish which is part of the Stjørdal prosti in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, stone church was built in a long church style around the year 1100 by an unknown architect. The church seats about 320 people.

Norway is an incredible country filled with natural beauty at every turn. But for most visitors, they stay further south in some of the well-known places like Oslo. Today I'll tell you about a fantastic city located up in Central Norway - Trondheim. It may not be as big as some of the other cities, but it has a lot packed in!

It's downtown area is nearly surrounded by water, with Trondheim Fjord on one side and the Nidelva River snaking around the other sides. You can see some amazing tourist sites like Nidaros Cathedral (and it's central tower), the Archbishop's Palace (and it's museum), the Norwegian Crown Regalia, Stiftsgården (Trondheim Royal Palace), the Church of Our Lady, Kristiansten Fortress, the Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro), the Gate of Happiness, the Historic Wharves, Bakklandet, Nordre Gate, the King Olav Tryggvason statue, and more! There are also so many fantastic ways to experience the natural beauty, like taking a boat tour in the fjord or taking a hike along Lade trail. And guess what? Because it is so far north, in summer it almost never gets fully dark! So much great stuff to do, and even some great traditional Central Norwegian foods, like Sodd.
