Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and an administrative center. It is situated in the Upper Thracian Plain (Gornotrakiyska Nizina), on the both banks of the Maritsa river. The town in its present appearance was built around seven hills -- the hills of Plovdiv (Plovdiv Tepes) which are an inseparable part of the city's history.
Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe -- the beginning of its history dates back to 4,000 years BC.

World's Ugliest Hotel: Interhotel Veliko Tarnovo, VT, Bulgaria

Quite possibly the ugliest hotel in the world, the Interhotel was built in the early 80's during the Communist Era. The hotel has about 200 rooms. It is not expensive to stay here but is a low-rated hotel in on-line reviews. While conveniently located, the hotel is in bad condition on the outside. It could use more updating and upkeep. Many things are closed permanently or temporarily at the hotel. Decades ago before other hotels were in Veliko Tarnovo, this probably was a good hotel. Sadly it is not now.

The Skakavitsa Waterfall, Bulgaria

The Skakavitsa Waterfall (Bulgarian: Скакавица or Скакавишки водопад, Skakavishki vodopad) is the highest waterfall in the Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. It is part of Rila National Park and is located on the Skakavitsa River. The waterfall is situated on approximately 2,000 m above sea level, the water falling down from 70 m.

The Skakavitsa Waterfall is one of the chief tourist attractions in the area owing also to the century-old endemic white fir (Pinum peuce) forests surrounding it.
