6. E-Waste Dumping Ground
Ever wonder what happened to those old flip phones or playstations 3’s you’ve might used long ago in the past? Well it those could up here in This place in Western Africa. It’s a direct result of electronic pollution and western consumerism which a relatively new concept. It’s been the location of illegal and legal dumping zones for electron waste also known as e-waste for more modernized countries. Here you’ll find countless broken laptops, cellphones, TV, Ipads, printers etc from all across the world. The E-waste contains toxic chemicals that are emitted into the ground, water and even atmosphere when the materials are burned. This isn’t your average waste. Much of these chemicals are extremely poisonous such as mercury, lead, arsenic, and copper. Many workers at the e waste dumping ground scavenge left of over copper wire but these conditions are by no means safe. High levels of toxins have already been found in samples of soil and food nearby, proving that this is having a negative effect on the environment.

5. Danakil Depression
The danakil depression is actually the site of a crater from a volcanic explosion 20 million of years ago! The unearthly setting is caused from hot springs sulphur, salt, iron oxide and other minerals.Other small pools contain toxic chemicals but in the end it’s become quite colorful as you can tell from this photo. National Geographic has called this alien place, the cruelest place on earth and it’s found 328 feet below sea level. There used to be a settlement in this location but it was abandoned after mining a few tons of salt. With an average high of 121 degrees in July, people who come to this region just want to get a few things and get the heck out! The landscapes of this place are simply alien-like on, any different levels The Dallol sulphur springs emit a horrendous odor and make up part of Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression.
4. Makgadikgadi Pan
Located in the country of Botswana is one of the largest salt plains in the world which gives it that mysterious look as though it could be the surface of an alien planet. The area here is larger than the country of Switzerland and is surrounded by desert. Very little wildlife can exist here and it just seems like a barren wasteland for the most part, from what meets the eye at least. Many believe that salty plains couldn’t host any wildlife but this isn’t the case for salt loving halophiles. This is a type of extremophile that can thrive in salty conditions and actually prefer to live in place that has at least 5 times the salt concentration of a normal place. This kind of salt concentration has been found in places like the Dead Sea of Israel and the Great salt lake of Utah.
3. Castle of Good Hope
Built in the year 1666, there’s already something just slightly demonic about it. It’s located in Cape town south africa and declared as a national historical monument. Constructed by the Dutch east india company, it’s oldest existing colonial building in South Africa and most likely the most haunted. It’s believed that a spirit of a travel writer, artist and socialite named Anne Barnard who appears within the opulent ballroom of the castle. Others claim to see a mysterious black dog who wonders the hallways. Sometimes he’s even seen leaping at visitors before disappearing in mid air. During the 2nd boer war, the castle was used as a prison and the prison cells are still there in modern times.There’s also a pretty creepy dungeon with no windows where prisoners were given no mercy.
2. Lalibela Churches Ethiopia
Considered to be one of Ethiopia’s most holy cities, there’s just something a little bit eerie about this place. This african country was one of the first on the continent to adopt christianity. The churches here were built between the seventh to the thirteenth centuries and are carved out of rock within the earth. One of the more well-known is the church of Saint George that we see in this photo. It’s carved from a stone known as volcanic tuff and even refered to as the eighth wonder of the world by some. Here, you can see it from above which gives you an idea of it’s positioning from the surface. All of the churches are rather unique and handcarved which must have been quite time consuming.

Abandoned on an island in South Africa!!!
The last part of the African Safari holiday was in South Africa and Singapore.
Not clickbait!!! We did actually get stranded on Robben Island in Cape Town. We also saw penguins, ostriches and bontebok's. After the tour finished we had a few more days in Cape Town before flying to Singapore for a week.
