Vilajuïga is a municipality in the comarca of Alt Empordà, Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Vilajuïga's area is home to a group of Megalithic dolmens. Starting from the 10th century AD it was a possession of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. In the nearby is also the Quermançó Castle, documented from 1073. The mineral water, Aigua de Vilajuïga, comes from here. It was reputed to be the only water drunk by the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí.

A bridge tower was a type of fortified tower built on a bridge. They were typically built in the period up to early modern times as part of a city or town wall or castle. There is usually a tower at both ends of the bridge. During the 19th century, a number of bridge towers were built in the Gothic Revival style – Tower Bridge in London is perhaps the best known example; however, many original medieval towers survive across Europe.

Tom and Gretchen go to Spain to wallow in Gaudi in Barcelona, then to wander up Costa Brava to Girona and El Port de la Selva.

train trip to Llançà, Costa Brava

here's a little travel vlog from our train trip from Figueres to Llançà, a little coastal town on the Costa Brava in Catalonia Spain. The train takes about 15 mins, it's one stop, about 3 euros. When you arrive at the train station in Llançà, you have to walk about 10-15 mins to get to the beach. There you will find a hill that you can climb up on and see the spectacular views of the coast. Well worth a visit. Then you can have a drink or a meal at one of the bars along the beach.
Keep in mind though that this area is famous for the Tramuntana which is an extremely strong wind. It can be pleasant in summer, but not the rest of the year. You might want to check the weather forecast before you go, or bundle up (not in summer of course).

As you can tell from the video, dogs are allowed on all trains in Spain. We took the slow train and thus didn't have to use a carrier or muzzle, or buy a ticket.
