New Zealand's Heart of Gold, Waihi has a history of gold mining spanning 3 centuries. The Coromandel's southern town is bordered by the popular holiday spots of Waihi Beach, Karangahake Gorge and Whiritoa Beach. Cycle the Hauraki Rail Trail and sample the homegrown fare along the way.

Today we are visiting the Whatatutu Marae in Gisborne and even staying the night in the Maori marae. If you want to experience staying in a marae, then this Gisborne marae is a great place to do it. We also get to visit and even help with the construction of a traditional Maori pa site.

After spending time staying in a pa site, we visit the Tarndale slip, the second largest landslip in the Southern Hemisphere and a humbling experience.
