never-ending story(ep232) - gaya street bakuteh, kk 6 jul 2015
music by: whistling weasel
mr yap, the owner of yu kee bakuteh in gaya street has been selling the bone-tea for more than 40 years. the dish is definitely worth the time and effort to seek out if you are in kk. it comes in portions in small bowls, so you could order many bowls of different parts of the pig - the usual pork bone, the pork tail, the pork intestines, the port kidney, the pork meat...... the soup is not peppery, not herbally bitter but with a subtle fragrance of.... oh shark, he could not tell what exactly it tasted like... he could only recall the taste was so familiar yet he could not relate it to anything specifically in his taste memory bank. instead the taste reminded him some emotions that's been buried deep inside his memory bank.....
in the year before coloured(blue/green parties) politics emerged in taiwan, this shop in wanluan was already very famous for its braised pork knuckles... that year, they visited the shop and ordered the signature dish. after eating, he asked her, well, what do you think of the dish?
good.... but not as good as mother cooks it.
oh, your mother must be a good cook.
yes, she is. you must come and try her cooking one day.
anticipation of that day grew afterwards..... but it never came.
