West Tanfield is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately six miles north of Ripon on the A6108, which goes from Ripon to Masham and Wensleydale. The parish includes the hamlets of Nosterfield, Thornborough and Binsoe.

    Nosterfield is a hamlet within the civil parish of West Tanfield in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England formerly used for quarrying. Several of the buildings in the village including the public house are designated as Grade II listed buildings.Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve is run as part of the Lower Ure Conservation Trust and is one of the most important wetland sites in Yorkshire recognised via designation as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation by North Yorkshire County Council.

    The International Centre for Birds of Prey, formerly the National Birds of Prey Centre, in the United Kingdom houses a large collection of birds of prey with over 60 species of owls, eagles and hawks. It works towards the conservation of birds of prey through education, captive breeding, research and rehabilitation. The centre is located at Boulsdon near Newent in Gloucestershire. The Director is Jemima Parry-Jones. In March 2013 a new branch was opened at Duncombe Park in Helmsley, North Yorkshire.
