Zaghwan is a town in the northern half of Tunisia. Situated on a low ridge of the Dorsale Mountains, the town has a mild climate and presents a green aspect. Cold water from here was taken by aqueduct to Carthage. The town is famous for its roses, originally cultivated by Muslim refugees from Spain in the seventeenth century. The town is located around 100 km due south of Tunis and around 50 km inland from the Gulf of Hammamet and has an estimated population of around 20,837 . 1. Thuburbo Majus Zaghouan Governorate
Thuburbo Majus is a large Roman site in northern Tunisia. It is located roughly 60 km southwest of Carthage on a major African thoroughfare. This thoroughfare connects Carthage to the Sahara. Other towns along the way included Sbiba, Sufes, Sbeitla, and Sufetula. Parts of the old Roman road are in ruins, but others do remain.

Dougga or Thugga was a Berber and Roman settlement near present-day Téboursouk in northern Tunisia. The current archaeological site covers 65 hectares . UNESCO qualified Dougga as a World Heritage Site in 1997, believing that it represents the best-preserved Roman small town in North Africa. The site, which lies in the middle of the countryside, has been protected from the encroachment of modern urbanization, in contrast, for example, to Carthage, which has been pillaged and rebuilt on numerous occasions. Dougga’s size, its well-preserved monuments and its rich Numidian-Berber, Punic, ancient Roman and Byzantine history make it exceptional. Zaghouan | Water Temple | Barrage Sidi Medien | Exploring Tunisia

Time to get back to exploring Tunisia!!! This trip I go to Zaghouan where we visit the Water temple or Temple De Eaux in French. An ancient Roman Temple based at the aquifer that sent water 134km away to Carthage using Aqueducts.

We then went to barrage/dam Sidi Medien, we grilled our lunch on the lake side and then hiked all the way around it.

Zaghouan:
The town is located around 100 km due south of Tunis and around 50 km inland (west) from the Gulf of Hammamet and has an estimated population of around 20,837 (2014). It is the capital of the Zaghouan Governorate.

Zaghouan Aqueduct:
The Zaghouan Aqueduct or Aqueduct of Carthage is an ancient Roman aqueduct, which supplied the North African city of Carthage with water. From its source in Zaghouan it flows a total of 132 km, making it amongst the longest aqueducts in the Roman Empire.

Sidi Medien:
Sidi Medien is a village in Zaghouan Governorate, Tunisia.

Haouaria | Exploring Tunisia | Cave exploring!

I continue to explore Tunisia as go on a hike to Haouaria, a coastal town and commune in the Nabeul Governorate, Tunisia.
We went to East Haouaria and started our hike at the Port.

We then climbed up the hillside and took in great open scenes of the Mediterranean Sea, the views where just breath taking. We then made out way to an Old Fort on the hills, we had lunch, then as usual, enjoyed some traditional folk music and dancing.

After Lunch we hiked back down the hill but on a different path to an area call Ras El Drek, where we discovered hidden caves with crystal clear water. We took the opportunity to explore and swim although the water was cold!!!

We hiked back to the bus and stopped at Restaurant La Daurade for some coffee and refreshments while we took in to great view of the ocean.

It was an excellent day with great people and friends, I cannot wait till the next trip!!
