Cannenburgh Castle | The Netherlands #7
A visit to Cannenburgh castle in the Dutch town of Vaassen. The castle, which is situated 8 kilometres (5 miles) north of Apeldoorn, was built in the sixteenth century on the fundaments of an older medieval castle. The (in)famous Guelders field marshal Maarten van Rossum ordered the building of the castle in 1543. After his death, it came into the hands of the family Van Isendoorn. The family of Isendoorn was one of the few noble families in the northern Low Countries that remained Catholic. The castle was largely neglected over the course of the twentieth-century until it was bought and restored by the Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen Foundation.

This travel vlog is about my one week bike tour through the Southern half of the Netherlands.
Day 1: Home - Zeist
Day 2: Zeist - Tilburg
Day 3: Tilburg - Bergen op Zoom
Day 4: Bergen op Zoom - Leidschendam
Day 5: Leidschendam - Hilversum
Day 6: Hilversum - Zeewolde
Day 7: Zeewolde - Arnhem (and from there to my home town by train)
Wandelen door de stad Zaltbommel door Catherine Boone
Stadswandeling door Zaltbommel. Zowel herkenbare als niet-herkenbare elementen komen aan bod: enkele torens, monumentale panden tot zelfs de Grote of Sint-Maartenskerk en het Stadskasteel of Maarten van Rossumhuis. Vele huizen hebben een voordeur met een bijzonder staaltje smeedwerk, waar er een verhaal aan gebonden is. Wie weet, word je opgeschrikt door een gootspook.. Hun Gootspokenroute is een absolute aanrader.
Het is ook heerlijk wandelen langs de Waal, die de stad zuidwaarts begrenst. Begroet worden door Jip en Janneke of genieten van het uitgestrekte landschap langs de oevers. Daarnaast is er voldoende voorraad natuur aanwezig in de stad. Een stadskwekerij en talrijke voortuintjes werden ontmoet. De groene loper ligt voor je klaar.

Cycling the Stratford Upon Avon Greenway
Something different from us! We recently hired bikes on the Stratford Upon Avon Greenway, in the UK, and rode almost the entire length. Here is the first 4 and a half miles which gives you an idea of how beautiful it is to either walk or cycle here. There is a cycle hire business at the beginning of the Greenway, who were great to us (we booked at the last minutes) and as you will see in the video we ended up in Long Marston for well deserved drinks and food!

Koblenz to Königswinter, Rhine valley views from a train, Germany - 9th August, 2017
Koblenz to Königswinter, Rhine valley views of Rhineland-Palatinate and Nordrhein-Westfalen from a regional train, Germany - 9th August, 2017.
In August 2017 I had a five day break in Germany, travelling from Stuttgart to Düsseldorf. This film features the journey from Koblenz Hauptbahnhof to Königswinter. The film was made with a window mounted Veho Muvi action cam.
The railway line from Koblenz to Königswinter hugs the River Rhine for much of the route and is a very scenic journey indeed. The beauty of this landscape helped inspire the romantic poetry movement of the 18th and 19th Centuries.
En-route, the train travels through: Ehrenbreitstein, Vallendar, Engers, Neuwied, Irlich, Leutesdorf, Oberhammerstein, Hammerstein, Rheinbrohl, Bad Hönningen, Leubsdorf, Wallen, Linz am Rhein, Erpel, Unkel, Rheinbreitbach, Bad Honnef, and Rhöndorf.

St. Jacobskerk
Deze kerk is gebouwd tussen 1491 en 1656, in de stijl van de Brabantse gotiek en toegewijd aan de apostel Sint-Jacobus de Meerdere. De zuider- en westerportalen vertonen Renaissance-invloed en -versiering. De Sint-Jacobskerk is ontworpen door architecten Herman de Waghemakere, zijn zonen Domien de Waghemakere en Herman de Waghemakere de jonge, en Rombout Keldermans, een lid van het Mechelse architectengeslacht Keldermans. Het was de bedoeling dat deze kerk de grootste gotische kerk ter wereld zou worden. Met de bouw van de toren werd begonnen omstreeks 1491; de kerk werd echter slechts gedeeltelijk gerealiseerd. De proporties van het bestaande gedeelte geven een idee hoe groots de kerk zou zijn geworden indien volledig voltooid. De toren moest 150 m hoog worden en daarmee de hoogte van de torens van de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal overtreffen. Slechts een derde hiervan werd gerealiseerd.
