Deer at Cinnamon Bay - St. John, Virgin Islands National Park
This video gives you a glimpse at some of lesser known residents of St. John, the white-tailed deer!
Occasionally visitors to the Virgin Islands National Park may see small herds of these deer and it's always an exciting photo opportunity for anyone visiting the National Park. The white-tailed deer were first brought to St. John in the the late 1700's and again in 1937 as part of the Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937.

The Virgin Islands National Park
There is a place where the Atlantic touches the Caribbean. An enchanted jewel of sand and sky and sea. Where you can float through waters teaming with life. Wander through echoes of history long past. Or just lie in the sand and watch the world go by. This place is the Virgin Islands National Park, on the island of St. John. And its care is entrusted to us all.
Produced by the Friends of Virgin Islands National Park for the National Park's Visitors Center.
U.S. Virgin Islands National Park
We stayed a few days at the Virgin Islands National Park, a United States National Park covering approximately 60% of the island of Saint John in the United States Virgin Islands. Within its 7,000 plus acres are the historic remnants of civilizations both free and enslaved dating back more than a thousand years, of hardy people who utilized the land and the sea for both profit and survival. The ruins of sugar plantations dating back to the 1800s can be found deep in the forested trails as well as along the coast. We snorkeled and kayaked and hiked all across St. John, and stayed in the campground huts at Cinnamon Bay. Forget St. Thomas -- sadly, now the tourist dumping ground for cruise ships -- and head straight for St. John.

CampCaribe @ Cinnamon Bay!
Okay, so this is my first (unedited) attempt using my little Flip video camera, so don't laugh! I shot some video snippets in April (09) while I was at Cinnamon Bay on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands National Park. I just wanted to show parents and potential CampCaribe.com Adventurers what the campgrounds look like. I promise I'll get better!

Grande Bay Resort: Cinnamon Bay
One of the more popular destinations on St. John, Cinnamon Bay is home to a gorgeous beach with some of the island's best snorkeling just offshore. It's located in the Virgin Islands National Park. Hiking trails take you through lush tropical vegetation and here, you can explore the island's past through active archeological expeditions that are scattered throughout the bay area. Look close and you'll see ancient petroglyphs carved into rocks by the island's first inhabitants nearly 3,000 years ago.

Best Hiking View in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
Best Hiking View in St. John, Virgin Islands - Have you ever seen something for the first time and it took your breath away? Yes, this one did for us - the view from the American Hill Trail in St. John, US Virgin Islands.
It is a short steep trail that branched off from the Cinnamon Bay Trail. Go inside the Cinnamon Bay Trail and in little less than a mile from the start, you will see a sign for the American Hill. Just keep an eye for it. Watch the video and you will see how the sign looks like. It is worth the extra mile (round trip) that you will hike.
If you have some extra time to hike this trail, I highly recommend it. To me, this should be under Top 10 things to do in St. John, US Virgin Islands or Top 10 Hikes in St. John.
Also, in this video, we mentioned some things we have been learning about the sugar cane plantation industry on this island back in the day. It tells us so much history. We believe it is important to know the history of the place to fully appreciate it.
This is truly a national treasure. We hope, we the people can do much more to protect our natural treasures.

We, Irwin and Victorina, have decided to quit our jobs, sell everything we have and go on an epic road trip of visiting all U.S. National Parks! Follow our journey - from letting go of our material possessions, preparing for the extended camping trip, and even the mistakes, joys, doubts and adventures we make along the way! We hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of Planet Earth.
Adventure begins in Feb 2017. We estimate this road trip will take us approximately 12 to 16 months. We know we will some amazing places and meet a lot of interesting people.
If you have an idea or suggestions for us for places to visit along the way, feel free to contact us!
NEW VIDEOS every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. If we miss a day, it is probably because we had no phone signal inside the park or we couldn't find any wifi access. If this is the case, we will upload our video as soon as we get any phone signal.

SwitchbackKids .'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ True paradise in the national parks
For a national park paradise experience, it doesn’t really get better than camping at Cinnamon Bay in Virgin Islands National Park.
If you are visiting the park and plan to stay there too, there are really only two options: Caneel Bay Resort (expensive) and Cinnamon Bay (much more affordable). Cinnamon Bay has options for a variety of visitors: eco tents, wood cottages, canvas platform tents, and bare tent sites.
We chose a canvas platform tent ($68/night in December 2015) because it provided everything we would need for our time here: cots, linens, towels, gas stove, cooking utensils and dishes, a cooler, and a lantern. Plus, they had a bathroom with an outdoor shower, so we could clean up for going in to town for $1 happy hours :)
Our tent was literally steps from a gorgeous Caribbean-perfection white sand beach. It is paradise.
In Virgin Islands, we stayed busy visiting trails, beaches, and historic sites. Our highlights included: hiking to the Reef Bay Sugar Mill ruins, hiking up Ram Head, snorkeling the Trunk Bay underwater trail, snorkeling with giant sea turtles in Maho Bay, and of course, camping at Cinnamon Bay.
You can read much more about our two days in the park on our blog: Switchback Kids (Virgin Islands) (
