City Walks: Paris, France - Notre Dame Cathedral Inside and Around - virtual treadmill walk
You are probably here because of the recent fire. If you'd like to see more travel content, please check out our family travel channel
City walks in Paris, France inside of Notre Dame Cathedral and then a short tour around the outside on a warm sunny summer morning. The gardens around the outside of the monument and the flying buttresses and steeple are as amazing as the stained glass windows and hushed reverent tones from the interior.
Notre-Dame de Paris ; meaning Our Lady of Paris), also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. The cathedral is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. The innovative use of the rib vault and flying buttress, the enormous and colorful rose windows, and the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration all set it apart from earlier Romanesque architecture.
The cathedral was begun in 1160 and largely completed by 1260, though it was modified frequently in the following centuries. In the 1790s, Notre-Dame suffered desecration during the French Revolution when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. Soon after the publication of Victor Hugo's novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1831, popular interest in the building revived. A major restoration project supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc began in 1845 and continued for twenty-five years. Beginning in 1963, the facade of the cathedral was cleaned of centuries of soot and grime, returning it to its original color. Another campaign of cleaning and restoration was carried out from 1991–2000.
As the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris, Notre-Dame contains the cathedra of the Archbishop of Paris (Michel Aupetit). 12 million people visit Notre-Dame yearly, it thus being the most visited monument in Paris.
On 15 April 2019, the cathedral caught fire and suffered significant damage, including the collapse of the entire roof and the main spire and substantial damage to the rose windows.

Paris: Left Bank, Louvre, Versailles, Marais, Carnavalet, walking tour
Walking tour past Pompidou Centre, into Notre Dame, along Ile St-Louis, to the Latin Quarter for Greek dinner, a bus tour, walk the Champs Elysées, metro to the Marais, Place des Voges, Musée Carnavalet, Louvre, Versailles, and street party
Among the world’s greatest cities, Paris is a must for any serious traveler. If you have never been, you must go, and if you have been there, you already want to go back again. Paris is the biggest city in Europe, with a regional population over 10 million, so you should take a half-day bus tour for an overview and use the excellent metro -- but the finest way to get around will be your own two feet. Wear comfortable shoes, as this is a great walking city. The art of walking has been called the ‘flaneur’ in Paris, which connotes an aimless stroll sharpened by the keen appreciation of little details.
A Walk Around Saint-Germain-des-Pres', Paris
Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of the four administrative quarters of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France, located around the church of the former Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Its official borders are the River Seine on the north, the rue des Saints-Pères on the west, between the rue de Seine and rue Mazarine on the east, and the rue du Four on the south. Residents of the quarter are known as Germanopratins.
The quarter has several famous cafés, including Les Deux Magots, Café de Flore, le Procope, and the Brasserie Lipp, and a large number of bookstores and publishing houses. In the 1940s and 1950s, it was the centre of the existentialist movement (associated with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir). It is also home to the École des Beaux-Arts, the famed school of fine arts, and the Musée national Eugène Delacroix, in the former apartment and studio of painter Eugène Delacroix.

Paris Walk - Notre-Dame Cathedral Surroundings - France
A first-person perspective Paris walk tour of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, with its beautiful architecture and many visiting tourists queuing to enter the world-famous building.
See all the sights as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person!) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of Paris, featuring the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris (Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris). The tour begins on Quai de Montebello, then crosses over the river Seine and onto Notre-Dame, where the tour concludes.
Sights seen along the tour include the river Seine, art stalls by the river, a traffic cop directing vehicles, a statue of Charlemagne et ses Leudes (Charlemagne and his Leudes), a violin player, and tourists queuing to enter Notre-Dame.
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded August 2017.

[4K] Bordeaux (2019) France What to See in 1 Day walking Tour
If you're wondering what to See in 1 Day, join us for this 4k virtual tour of Bordeaux on the Garonne River in southwest France. Experience local life on as if you were there. Do let us know your thoughts and tips below, we always welcome them.
Filmed in April, we start our slow tv walking tour in front of the iconic La Grosse Cloche (Great Bell) on Rue Saint-James just off Cours Victor Hugo.
Rue Saint-James is just one of many streets we'll wander where you'll find great coffee shops, restaurants and independent boutiques.
We enter Place Fernand Lafargue, a popular area for nightlife before turning right onto Rue Sainte-Colombe with it's shaded outdoor bars. Turning up Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges, and then Rue du Palais de l'Ombrière, we discover Place du Palais, site of Porte Cailhau - the historic gate with it's incredible facade.
This impressive arch leads us out onto the Quai Richelieu - and the banks of the Garonne River. Here we see the Pont de Pierre (Stone Bridge) that connects the East and West sides of the City.
We follow the river, though not as far as the Place de la Bourse and
Le Miroir D'Eau - instead our walk takes us back across the road by the Charles Dickens Pub and along Rue de la Cour des Aides to the
site of Église Saint-Pierre. This church is surrounded by great places to eat, drink and be entertained.
We follow Rue Parlement Saint-Pierre to Place du Parlement with it's much photographed fountain before heading to Rue Sainte-Catherine, Bordeaux's mots famous shopping street and often said to be the longest pedestrian street in Europe.
We finish our walk by visiting Place de la Comedie, seeing the Opéra National de Bordeaux on our right, the Intercontinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hôtel on our left (Bordeaux's most famous hotel) and seeing Carrousel Palace 1900, the city's colourful merry-go-round attraction on Allées de Tourny.
A slow walk through the city's sights and history has to be first on the list of the free top 10 things to do in Bordeaux France.
