PARK HISTORY
Eureka Springs Park was donated to Hillsborough
County in 1967 by Albert Greenberg. Mr. Greenberg
acquired the land in 1938 and developed it into a
botanical garden of rare and exotic plants. The first
tropical fish farm in Florida was started on the
property, and the park's natural springs were once
used for local baptisms.
NATURAL HISTORY
Much of the park has been left in its natural state
and is home for many plants and animals that
depend on the hardwood swamp for survival. The
park's numerous springs are supplied by water from
the Florida Aquifer. The water originated as rainfall
which entered the ground in the sandy hills of
Florida's central ridge and flowed to this region
through caverns and porous limestone rock. A
recently constructed canal just west of the park has
caused the water pressure of the aquifer to drop, as
a result the springs now flow only during the rainy
season.
FACILITIES
Several trails and walkways lead through the park,
including a 1, 700 ft. boardwalk. Other facilities
include a green house display, party room - reservable, picnic shelters and picnic tables.

Wilderness Park, Tampa, Fl
This popular single-track woods trail has a natural surface and shady canopy. The 20-mile main trail and 15 miles of side trails traverse the Trout Creek, Morris Bridge and Flatwoods areas.
Habitats along the trail vary from cypress swamp, hardwood floodplain forest, upland hardwood hammocks, pine flatwoods, oak scrub, dry prairie, wet prairie and lakes.
Navigation
Trail maps are available at kiosks in parking areas or by calling the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. The main trail is marked with wooden posts numbered 1 to 47.
Eureka Springs Boardwalk and Gardens
The botanical gardens and boardwalk are ADA compliant, but the far end of the boardwalk is linked back to the parking lot with a soft gravel trail. The springs still boil, but the hydrology was changed by the by-pass canal, I-4 and I-75.

Lettuce Lake Park in Hillsborough County Florida just outside of Tampa. This park is about 240 acres and it hosts hiking and biking trails as well as a 3500 foot long boardwalk along the Hillsborough River. This park is full of many different kinds of birds and other wildlife including Alligators all of which can be seen from the boardwalk and trails. Its also rumored that the famed skunk ape or Bigfoot lurks in the swamp and woods around here, though Ive never seen one.

Wintering in Florida - Whispering Pines RV Park, Silver Springs, FL
Yoly and I avoid the sub freezing night time temperatures by checking into a Passport America facility with full hook-ups so that we could run our small space heater. This park had a generous 7 day stay limit which was exceptional for PA parks, especially in Florida.
