Ocean Grove RV Resort St Augustine FL
See our 2018 Ocean Grove RV Resort Update ! -
We just completed 2 months of RV life in St. Augustine Beach FL. We still had a full workload, but it was great to be 5 minutes from the beach for our days off. The weather for May and June has been great and the stay at Oceans Grove RV resort has been super. Great camping, wonderful pool, well maintained spaces and over all campground along with a very friendly staff has made a perfect beach trip. The RV resort is big rig friendly and every space supports water, sewer, 30 & 50 amp and cable. Most of the sites are have a good view for satellite, ours included. We took advantage of the on site laundry and there is a very nice bath house and fitness center.
The Resort is broken into two areas. The front is the lower cost area with grass parking but all are equipped with a picnic table and concrete pad. The back of the resort is higher priced, but all spaces are paved and some border the beautiful marsh. This is one of our favorite Florida campgrounds and our go to location when we consider the beach.
Dining options have been great. Hurricane Grill, Romano's for pizza, Seafood kitchen and the Oasis Grill are all within a couple of minutes walk. We had a great meal at A1A Ale House and at Prohibition Kitchen in in the historic downtown district and delicious Mexican street food at Cantina Louie at US 1.
We love St. Augustine Beach and Ocean Grove RV Resorts is one of our favorite Florida campgrounds and our go to location when we consider the beach.

**COOL FACTS**
Flagler Beach was a finalist in the 2013 Budget Travel Magazine contest for Coolest Small Town. The magazine described it by the following:
Twenty miles north of Daytona Beach on A1A, Flagler Beach couldn't be more different from its party-hardy neighbor to the south. In fact, the area seems to attract more sea turtles and right whales than spring breakers. And it's not hard to see why: This thin strip of a beach town, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, has remained significantly less developed than its neighbors. The six miles of pristine sand—which boast an orange hue thanks to crushed coquina shells—are only interrupted by one fishing pier. In town, the vibe is laid back and retro, thanks to spots like Grampa's Uke Joint, which sells ukuleles, and High Tides at Snack Jack, a 1950s fish shack that attracts surfers with funky dishes like tuna reubens, ahi club sandwiches, and sake Bloody Marys.
**MUSEUM**
The Flagler Beach Historical Museum's permanent collection is entirely dedicated to Florida history, featuring Flagler Beach and Flagler County. The collection ranges from prehistoric bones and other remains of the Stone Age to a Space Age side. The latter has an exhibit with items provided by NASA astronauts, including space food and the Flagler Beach city flag, which was sent to orbit the earth aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
Orange Period pottery pieces from indigenous peoples of the region date from 2000 B.C. to 500 A.D. Historic Native American Indian life is represented by an exhibit of arrowheads and other artifacts, all discovered in Flagler County.
The Florida territory had changing European rulers in the war years between the 1500s and the early 1800s: Spanish, English and American. Mill and plantation artifacts make up the display about the Plantation Period. Personal use items, such as buttons and bottles obtained from area missions, represent the history of individuals in the area. From the Mala Compra Plantation, burned down during the Second Seminole War, the Museum has items from the early 19th-century home of Joseph Hernandez, who was elected as the first Hispanic congressman in the U.S.
The period of the late 1800s and early 1900s are represented by books and exhibits about the area's economy: county farming of cabbage and potatoes, timber industry, railroad artifacts, and turpentine camp items. Exhibits also include documents and memorabilia associated with the 20th-century development boom that began in the western portion of Flagler County and was continued oceanside. Displays feature four Flagler Beach first families who purchased land and built what was once considered a seaside resort.
Other display items from the early 1900s include memorabilia from early city government, the county's Old Brick Road, the Flagler Beach Hotel, World War II items, the A1A highway, Marineland, and early advertising brochures. Representations of local organizations from 1925 forward are represented in displays featuring the Flagler Beach Fire Department, Boy Scouts of Flagler, and Flagler Beach schools.

Boating in Miami, Florida : Stiltsville, Nixon Sandbar, Key Biscayne
In this week's video we join our friends Raul and Dany for a whole day of fun in the water, cruising in Miami, South Florida aboard their power boat.
This video is sponsored by Rad Power Bikes
radpowerbikes.com?utm_source=TravelingRobert (800) 939-0310
Our first point of interest is Stiltsville, nowadays a ghost town on the water. It began early in the 20th century as a gambling and bootlegging operation, as it was legal one mile offshore. From the 60's until the late 80's it was very much a party scene. There was even a place called Bikini Club where ladies wearing a bikini would get free drinks. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew was the last nail on the coffin of what was a town on stilts. Only seven structures remain, most of them in ruins.
Next we go to the famous Nixon Beach Sandbar for a swim. It is located right by the entrance of Hurricane Harbor. This area is home to many lavish waterfront mansions. Nixon Beach Sandbar is notorious for the numerous boat parties that happen here. People tie their boats together, and the flow of booze and loud music go on throughout the day. When we went, May 20, it wasn't so crowded. Perhaps because the water had not reached that magical 90ºF mark. After our swim and some drone flying we cruised around the harbor to see the homes of the rich and famous, and their boats up close and personal.
After all this we have worked up an appetite, so we navigate east, towards Cape Florida State Park and the creatively named No Name Harbor. After a pitcher of sangria, some minuscule conch fritters, and a delicious seafood paella, we decide to call it a day, sailing into the sunset, back to the marina.
We are Traveling in Florida and the rest of the USA aboard a Winnebago Micro Minnie 1706FB travel trailer. You are more than welcome to tag along by subscribing to this channel.

R.D. Keene Park Windermere Florida Keene's Pointe
Visit-
It is fast and does great property searches. There is a ton of great information there.
R.D. Keene
Born in 1885 and Living until 1973 is the person most responsible for Keene's Pointe as we know it today. As a 20 year old young man Mr. Keene began working in the orange groves of Florida. It being 1905 in Florida not a lot of great jobs were available no matter how industrious a young man may have been. Long before Roosevelt's new deal it was work or starve. An easy decision to make.
The land now filled with gorgeous fairways and greens we call Keene's Pointe was actually acquired by R.D. Keene in the mid 1930's. Being one of the previously mentioned industrious young men he ultimately acquired both the Northern and Southern Portions of Keene's Pointe and was quite the innovator in the Orange Juice industry. Thankfully for golfers all over this area and those that visit his luck took a downward turn. After several hard freezes and some associated hardship Mr. Keene ended up opening the land up to development and now we have Keene's Pointe and The Golden Bear Club.
You can now visit R.D. Keene Park. The Park has two large soccer fields which you can reserve for events or walk over and just use them when they are open. The children's play area has been covered before but now it is not. I'm expecting someone to fix that in the next few years. The children's play area also has a rubberized mat which makes it very nice.
In addition there are public restrooms and water fountains. As a matter of fact they do produce cold water. I used one last time I was there.
R.D. Keene's Boat ramp is located on lake Palmer. It has parking for nearly 50 boat trailers and the fees area as follows.
Vehicles with trailers and motorized boats and jetskis etc. $5 per day.
Vehicles only or with non motorized watercraft Free
Boat ramp annual pass $150 and smart card is $50
Or last time I was out there the smart card reader was broken and it was all free.

FLORIDA AFTER WORLD WAR II
In 1940, on the eve of World War II, Florida was still an isolated, backward Southern state, with a population smaller than South Carolina or Arkansas. How did Florida evolve from marginal to mega-state, the country's fourth largest in population? Bill Dudley listens as the author of a new book reveals how Florida has reshaped itself in just over half a century.
Natchez Auction Preview: The Eola Hotel
Built in 1927, renovated in 1998, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 131-room Natchez Eola Hotel offers its guests the ambiance and charm of the Old South with the convenience of modern amenities. The Natchez Eola Hotel is graced with elegant interiors, arched doorways, crystal chandeliers, marble trim, stately columns, Mississippi River view balconies and a New Orleans courtyard with an original fire-and-water fountain.
Grand and stately, the Eola Hotel is furnished throughout with fine antiques, original oil paintings, statuary fountains and lush florals. Step out of the Eola's courtyard into the heart of historic downtown Natchez, where you'll discover Natchez Under-the-Hill, riverboat gambling, and the city's renowned Antiques Row, all within walking distance of the Eola. Horse-drawn carriages will deliver you to the door of magnificent antebellum mansions graced with innumerable white columns, rich Italian marble and moss-laden trees.
Named Eola after the developer's daughter, the Natchez Eola Hotel opened on July 1, 1927. Local newspapers hailed the hotel as a symbol of civic progress. Beginning in 1932, the Eola became headquarters for the annual Natchez Spring Pilgrimage.
The hotel enjoyed years of prosperity and celebrity visits, but by the 1960s, was showing its age. It quietly closed in 1974. Then, in 1978, under new ownership, a major restoration project commenced. Six and one-half million dollars later, the landmark hotel reopened. Elaborate chandeliers, columns, arched doorways, marble trim, and the famed Peacock Alley were returned to their original splendor.
Preservation efforts sensitive to the original architecture earned the Natchez Eola membership in the National Register of Historic Places. The premier historic hotel property in Natchez, Mississippi, the Eola once again is a command center to the annual antebellum home pilgrimages. The hotel hosts the annual Natchez Antiques Forum.
The tallest building in downtown Natchez, the seven-story Eola Hotel overlooks the city from the corner of Main and Pearl Streets. Just two blocks from the Mississippi River, and one block from the city's new convention center, the hotel is within easy walking distance of most of the city's attractions, restaurants, and nightlife.
The Natchez Eola Hotel offers the finest convention and meeting facilities in the area. The greatest care has been taken to create functional spaces that do not sacrifice the elegant ambiance of this historic hotel. With +/- 3,995 square feet of meeting space, the Eola Hotel provides meeting spaces that range from small boardrooms that seat a dozen individuals to a grand ballroom, which can accommodate 400 guests.
Lé Grand Pré Ballroom, on the mezzanine, offers a beautiful space for private dinners and receptions. The Grand Pré seats up to 250 people for banquets and 400 people for receptions. The ballroom can be divided into four private rooms that will accommodate groups from 15 to 110 people.
Located two blocks from the Mississippi River, one block from the newly built Natchez Convention Center, this historic downtown Natchez hotel is both elegant and convenient.

Stone Mountain Campground - Stone Mountain GA
#stonemountainpark #stonemountaincamping #stonemountainyurts Stone Mountain Campground located in the Stone Mountain Park is an absolute oasis in the middle of metro Atlanta, GA. This campground is so nice. It's similar in age to many of the Georgia State campground, offering a rustic feel.
This is a very large campground with multiple loops offering a wide variety of campground amenities from basic water and electric only, full service in a wooded environment to premium spots with decks and gas grills. Then there's the lake views. On this clear day, the view of the lake with Stone Mountain located on the adjacent side was simply spectacular. There's also tent camping and yurts that were recently constructed..
If the campground is your only destination, there's a great area to keep the family entertained with horse shoe pits, volley ball and a very large playground center for the kids along with a large pool open during the warmer months.
But, there's so much more. There are additional fees associated with other activities offered in the park such as the village, cable car to the top of the mountain, scenic railroad, dinosaur experience and so much more. Plus there's numerous festivals offered throughout the year.
This is our first time to the campground, but will bring more of the family back for our next visit.

The Vigilante Group Of New Yorkers Who Hunt Rats At Night (HBO)
Rats aren't only a part of New York City’s underground — they're an inseparable part of its pop culture. There’s Master Splinter from the Ninja Turtles, Pizza Rat, and even Cannibal Rat. But for every celebrity rat, there’s another 250,000 to 2 million anonymous rodents living in the city — and the city health department is fighting to bring down.
The battle can be deadly. Last year, three people in a Bronx city block contracted leptospirosis through rat urine. Only two survived.
To combat the problem, Mayor Bill de Blasio launched a $32 million initiative to rid New York of its signature rodents, concentrating on hyper-infested areas that the city describes as rat reservoirs.
Multiple city agencies are currently focusing their efforts around public housing buildings, where they plan to replace dirt basement floors, block passageways and amp up trapping, baiting and poisoning efforts. They also apply dry ice to the rats’ burrow systems, effectively suffocating them as the carbon dioxide gets released while the ice melts.
But if all else fails, a small group of dedicated rat hunters are ready to step in.
When dusk settles, Richard Reynolds and his vigilante rat hunters known as “The Ryders Alley Trencher-Fed Society” — or R.A.T.S for short — roam lower Manhattan’s streets and dumpsters, keeping their dogs’ instincts sharp and the hunting tradition alive.
In the three decades Richard has been hunting rats with his dogs, he says he must have killed thousands of rats. But he doesn’t really keep track.
A hunter through and through, he only counts the ones that get away.
