Rose Kennedy: gives a tour of JFK's Birthplace in Brookline, MA., just as it was in May of 1917.
The house was purchased by Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. in 1914, shortly after his marriage to Rose Fitzgerald; John and his sisters Rosemary and Kathleen were born in the upstairs master bedroom. The family lived there until 1920, when the growth of the family motivated the Kennedys to move to a larger home just a few blocks away on the corner of Abbottsford and Naples Roads. The Kennedys sold the Beals Street house to Joe Kennedy's advisor Edward Moore and his family. The Kennedys lived in the Abbottsford Road home until 1927, when Joe Kennedy's business interests prompted the family's move to Riverdale, Bronx, New York.
The home was built in 1909, a period of rapid growth in Brookline. The Kennedys moved into the home, then the last on the street, after returning from their honeymoon in 1914. A few months after they were married, Joe Kennedy purchased a new Model T Ford that he used to commute to downtown, where he worked as the president of the Columbia Trust Bank. The T line to Coolidge Corner existed when the Kennedys were living in Brookline. Rose Kennedy would often walk from the Beals Street house down to the shopping district in Coolidge Corner, where there used to be an S.S. Pierce store among the other shops.
The master bedroom is where Jack, Rosemary and Kathleen Kennedy were each born. Jack Kennedy was born at 3:00pm on May 29, 1917. Rose Kennedy had seven of her nine children at home, and the same doctor, Dr. Good, delivered all seven, as well as the final two who were born in a hospital. The bedroom has a number of photographs including the 6 month old baby pictures of Joe Jr., Jack, Rosemary, and Kathleen.
The nursery contains a bassinet that will eventually hold each of the nine Kennedy children, as well as a christening cap, gown, and a number of books and toys that Joe Jr. and Jack would have played with. Jack's two favorite books can be viewed; King Arthur and his Knights and Billy Whiskers and His Kids.
The guest bedroom showcases linens bearing Rose's initials - REF as well as a toiletry set belonging to Rosemary Kennedy. The guest room was converted to a girl's bedroom as soon as Rosemary and Kathleen were born.
The boudoir acted as Rose's private space within the house as well as her office space. She would use the desk in the room to keep track of the accounts of the household and to do her correspondence. The desk showcases a card file. Rose kept an index card for each of her children where she would list important milestones in their medical history - things like vaccinations, major illnesses and hospital stays, as well as birthdays and confirmation dates. Jack Kennedy's card can be seen on the desk.

LBJ Speaks to John F. Kennedy's Mother Rose After the Assassination (1963)
Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald Kennedy (July 22, 1890 – January 22, 1995) was an American philanthropist and socialite. She was deeply embedded in the lace curtain Irish Catholic community in Boston, where her father was mayor. She was the wife of businessman and investor Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., who was United States Ambassador to the Court of St James's. Their nine children included President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and longtime Senator Ted Kennedy.
On October 7, 1914, she married Joseph Patrick Joe Kennedy at age 24 after a courtship of more than seven years. He was the elder son of businessman/politician P. J. Kennedy (political rival of Honey Fitz) and Mary Augusta Hickey. She gave birth to the couple's first child, Joseph, Jr., nine months later. They initially lived in a home in Brookline, Massachusetts that is now the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site, and later a 15-room vacation home at Hyannis Port on Cape Cod, which became the Kennedy family’s lasting base. They had nine children.
Joseph provided well for their family, but was unfaithful. His affairs included one with Gloria Swanson. While eight months pregnant with the couple's fourth child Kathleen, Rose temporarily went back to her parents, but returned to Joseph. In turning a blind eye to her husband's affairs, Rose depended heavily on medication. Ronald Kessler found records for prescription tranquilizers Seconal, Placidyl, Librium, and Dalmane to relieve Rose's nervousness and stress, and Lomotil, Bentyl, Librax, and Tagamet for her stomach.[3]
Rose Kennedy was a strict Catholic throughout her life. Even after her 100th birthday, she rarely missed Sunday Mass and maintained an extremely prudish exterior. Her strict beliefs often placed her at odds with her children.[4] Jacqueline Kennedy described her mother-in-law in her correspondence to Father Joseph Leonard, an Irish priest: I don't think Jack's mother is too bright – and she would rather say a rosary than read a book.[5]
Rose Kennedy stated that she felt completely fulfilled as a full-time homemaker. In her 1974 autobiography, Times to Remember, she wrote, I looked on child rearing not only as a work of love and a duty, but as a profession that was fully as interesting and challenging as any honorable profession in the world and one that demanded the best I could bring to it..... What greater aspiration and challenge are there for a mother than the hope of raising a great son or daughter?
John F. Kennedy's Requiem Mass and Burial Rite (INTACT VERSION) 11/25/1963
Requiem Mass and the rite of interment at Arlington Cemetery with the blessing and lighting of the Eternal Flame Memorial.
(This is the full funeral Mass of JFK without the jump cut found in the versions already posted online. I tracked down the original 8-hour video coverage, edited down and uploaded it in the highest quality possible.)
This is the Pontifical Low Requiem Mass said for the repose of the soul of the late John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America, celebrated on November the 25th 1963.
Mass was said at the Cathedral of St. Matthew in Washington D.C. The Archbishop of Boston, His Eminence, Cardinal Richard Cushing, a family friend of the Kennedy's, was the presiding minister. LIVE spiritual commentary during Mass was given by the now late, Msgr. Leonard Hurley. The eulogy was given by Bishop Philip Hannan
This Mass has been noted to be the worst televised Mass ever as it shows Cardinal Cushing's infamous barking of the Low Mass and extreme laziness during the whole ceremony. Even during the final commendation at the church and the cemetery, which he chose to say in the vernacular.
May the soul of John F. Kennedy, rest in peace Amen.

JFK's life, legacy is celebrated on his centennial
The life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy, who died at 46, will be celebrated on the day he would have turned 100.

USPS Boston Postmaster Nick Francescucci and representatives from the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site- JFK's birthplace and childhood home -are expected to attend.
Joe Kennedy III, a great-nephew of JFK, is expected to deliver the keynote at a ceremony held at the U.S. National Park on Monday afternoon. The Democratic U.S. representative told The Associated Press this month that many of his colleagues in Washington tell him they were inspired into public service because of JFK.
The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston will hold a birthday celebration that includes a flyover from the U.S. Navy and a cake that was made by the family of the baker who made the engagement cake for then-Sen. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier, according to executive director Steven Rothstein.
The museum unveiled a new exhibit Friday featuring 100 original artifacts, documents, and photographs from Kennedy's life and political career. It's held several events this weekend to honor Kennedy's legacy.
There's no one issue or one event that we could do to highlight the different facets of (Kennedy), Rothstein said. Many of his key ideas are timeless. We fundamentally believe that JFK is a visionary who never goes out of style.
A wreath-laying ceremony took place early Monday to honor the 35th U.S. president at his gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Kennedy served as president from January 1961 until he was assassinated in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.

Irish Cadets at JFK Gravesite 50 years later
On Nov. 25, 1963, retired Lt. Col. John Dunne was one of 26 Irish Army cadets that formed the honor guard at President John F. Kennedy's funeral.
On Nov. 25 2013, Dunne laid a wreath at the eternal flame at Arlington National Cemetery. He was joined by 10 other members of that original honor guard in the Irish Defence Forces 37th Cadet Class, along with a small contingent of current cadets to post and retire the colors for the commemoration.
