Hiking the Kayenta Trail - Zion National Park - RV Family
We hiked the Kayenta Trail at Zion National Park. The weather seemed like it was going to be good but there was actually a forest fire two hours north! It was a little smokey that day but the smoked cleared up within a couple hours. This was a great moderate trail to hike. It has some great views as you hike to the top and a great area to have some lunch before you start your way back down. This trail leads up through the middle emerald pool and stops at the upper emerald pool. At least when we went which was the dry season, the pools where not very emerald. While hiking make sure to watch the edge, there is a cliff edge with a steep drop down!
Our Visit to Zion National Park
Our last major National Park visit in Utah is Zion National Park. Please join us as we explore Zion hiking the Emerald Pool Lower and Middle, Kayenta, Riverside Walk and The Narrows trails. The Narrows trail walk is in the Virgin River. Among the trails in Zion this is the most popular. With no storms up river the water level was low with a slow current and very manageable, refreshingly cool temperature.
This was another rather hot, dry day with the temperatures in the mid-100s range. Drinkable water was readily available within the park and while hiking we carried about two liters. Lunch was a snack at The Grotto with dinner at the Zion Lodge's snack bar. It was a wonderful day, we arrived back at our hotel exhausted and ready for a good night's sleep!
Enjoy!

The Emerald Pools Trailhead starts at Shuttle Stop #5 near the Zion Lodge. The trail is well-maintained and about 2 miles round trip to the Lower Emerald Pool and 2.75 miles round trip to the Upper Emerald Pool. Due to a rockfall in July 2018, the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools are not accessible via the Lower Emerald Pool Trail. However, on September 27, 2019, the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools have become accessible via the Kayenta Trail (Shuttle Stop #6).
We visited Zion National Park twice and when we hiked the Emerald Pools Trail in November 2017, we could hike to all three pools and when we came back to visit in January 2019, the trail was closed past the Lower Emerald Pool due to the July 2018 rockfall.

Hiking the Zion Narrows - Zion National Park
#zionnationalpark #zionnarrows #zionnarrowshike #besthikesintheworld
Hiking the Zion Narrows is a bucket list experience to be sure. It's considered one of the absolute best trails in the world and it's a hike nearly anyone can enjoy.
Hike the full 16 miles or just a few. Whatever you're up to. Here's what you'll need to know before heading out:
Plan on getting wet. The vast majority of the hike will be in the river. Wear closed toed shoes. Make sure to check the flow rate of the Virgin River before beginning your hike (info available at Zion National Park visitor center). Even on hot days, the narrows can be quite cold. Be prepared. Check air and water temperatures before heading out.
Start at the Temple of Sinawava (southern end) or Chamberlain's Ranch (northern end - PERMIT REQUIRED). If you begin at the southern end you can hike 5 miles to Big Spring but you will require a permit to venture further. 10 miles out and back total.
No toilets or trash receptacles anywhere along the trail. Pack out ALL of your waste. Please leave absolutely no trace.
