Colorado MTB 2017 Mary's Loop, Kokopelli's | Fruita, Colorado
Colorado MTB 2017 Mary's Loop in the Kokopelli trail system located just outside Fruita / Loma, Colorado. Mary's starts out with a rocky climb up a fire road. After the climb it levels out a bit before plunging down a hillside strewn with boulders. Mary's Loop is an out and back so you'll turn around when you hit Steve's loop and head back. The ride back had some fast downhill sections with some good drops that make it really fun to ride.
Most of Mary's could easily be ridden by a good beginner, however later on down the trail it gets fairly techy requiring intermediate to upper intermediate skill level. I would recommend a full syspension with good grippy tires. A little sidewall protection would be a good idea for this area as well because there is no shortage of sharp rocks on the trails.
In this video I am riding a 2017 Specialized Camber 29er with Sram GX 1X11 drivetrain, Maxxis Minion DHR II 2.3 EXO in front, Specialized Ground Control Grid Gripton 2.3 in the rear.

Mountain Biking Kokopelli Trail | Fruita, Colorado
Kokopelli Trail mountain biking is a route running from Fruita, Colorado, to Moab, Utah. It is an excellent long-distance mountain biking and dirt biking trail running from Fruita to Moab, Utah. The first 10 miles of the Kokopelli Trail is predominantly singletrack, and then after the river crossing, it turns into doubletrack for the majority of the way west to Moab.

PBR BIKE TRAIL, 18RD FRUITA COLORADO
Grand Junction/Fruita area have one of the best trail options in the state of Colorado. A mix of very technical loops fast down hill and great over looks at Kokopelli. When Moab is full of 4X4s many bikers will travel to 18RD, Tabeguache and Kokopelli.
Horsethief Bench Mountain Bike Trail | Fruita, Colorado
#horsethiefbench #fruitamtb
The last trail I rode while out west was Horsethief Bench. This is one of the more popular trails within the Kokopelli trail system. The 3.9 mile route is extremely scenic and mostly intermediate, with a few very technical sections.

FRUITA, COLORADO – Mountain Biking Moore Fun East to West. Riding the Yeti SB100 with the Crashing Dad on Fruita’s most technical trail! This is part 1 of a savage “out and back” ride. Most notably, Moore Fun is a crucial “Stage” in the Outdoor Gold Enduro, a rigorous circuit of handpicked trails where I try the capabilities of bikes in a review assessment. Moore Fun’s technical climbing and slow speed descending make this the most important and relevant stage in the test.
Technically we’re in Loma, Colorado, but who cares how close the DOT weigh station is, we are here to mountain bike a legendary trail that sees very few visitors. Moore Fun carries a stigma, that its just too hard to ride and that no one should ever even think of attempting this trail. That double black diamond banner flies high on Moore Fun, but I’ll let you in on secret, cleaning all the moves on Moore Fun will require upper end fitness and double black diamond talent. However, the majority of the trail rides as a black diamond if you know what you are doing.
As one of the least visited trails in the Kokopelli, Moore Fun had received a large spotlight from Nate Hills, its probably busier than its ever been. On packed weekends, I find Moore Fun to be a great place of solitude still to this day, with a few riders. MF is like the western slope equivalent of lower Bitterbrush in Lyons, except even harder! At the beginning, let not your heart be troubled, some techy climbs will keep a lot of the riff raff off this trail.
Sheyn and I will ride Moore Fun, the route it was originally intended to be ridden, East to West. The lines here make the most sense and the trail is more rideable versus the opposite direction. That said, this version is the sketchiest with very creative alternative lines that maximize the pucker factor.
The climbs in this route are all very achievable, though a double black effort is required. In, fact the climb in this route is the highlight of your day here, you wont get a more involved climb on any other trail. There no paint so you must keep you head up and decipher which way to go. The lack of trail in parts can get a bit confusing. Sessioning moves is practically required to clean the features on the first ride. You’re reward? The best views in the Kokopelli.
The Descent ain’t no picnic. Its rowdy and unpredictable. Riding too fast will lead you off the trail or worse, over the bars. Actually an OTB is not a matter of if, but when. Stay cautious and aware of the lines and alternative lines. A couple of these moves will require an advanced rolling tech experiences and trials moves are required to clean the whole thing.
In Troy Rarick’s book Fruita – Grand Junction Fat Tire Guidebook the 7th Sacred Edition, he calls the trail “all rideable, but rarely all ridden” and that’s a fact. I personally have yet to master the trail though Moore Fun has mastered me!

18 Hours of Fruita Race Course // Highline Lake Loop // Fruita, CO
Fruita, CO- Mountain biking the Highline Lake Loop at Highline State Park in Loma, CO. The course for the 18 hours of Fruita race. Brought to you by popular demand in the comments!
Disclaimer: I’ve never participated in the 18 hours race, I’m simply putting the film in to help viewers obtain a grasp of the nature of the trail and what to expect. Routes and exact details are subject to the design of the event.
18 hours of Fruita:
Fruita Fat Tire Festival:
Description: The Highline Lake Loop is a roller coaster track that creatively follows the drainage contours of the Highline Lake and Mack Mesa Reservoirs. Expect the trail to ride a lot like trails at the 18 Road/North Fruita Deserts singletrack as it sits on the same Mancos Shale Formation. There’s not much for technical features, no big jumps, drops, or chunky rollers, simply fast and flowy sections of singletrack with mundane climbs. However, the entirety of the loop does not consist of only singletrack, there are a few short sections of double track, gravel and paved road. But, don’t let that deter you, there is still plenty of interesting features along the landscape including the vistas, the wildlife, and flowy sections of downhill trail. I rate the trail as a beginner track, even though many outlets rate course intermediate.
The Park: A daily price with cost a recreational user $7 and much more for an annual pass. Any Colorado State Park Annual Pass will grant access to the park. There is camping and other recreational options for park useage such as fishing and boating. Exceptions to fees and camping are usually made during the 18 Hours of Fruita Race, be sure to check out the listed webstite for more details on those specifics.

Fruita, Colorado . Road 18. Pumps, Bumps, and Rollers. Boondocking on BLM in Colorado
After over a month in the eastern portion of Utah we moved onto Colorado looking for a little spring. We didn't find spring but we did find some great boondocking in Fruita, Colorado and enjoyed a little grass for the first time in months
Road 18 just north of town offers BLM land for hiking, biking, and camping. There is a paid campground with pit toilets or off the grid camping right at the trail heads to awesome mountain biking and hiking.
Fruita is an adorable little town with a downtown of local coffee shops and restaurants, a brewery, and bike rentals. For any big box needs Grand Junction is nearby with most everything you need.
