The Beatles in New York 1964 - Britain's revenge for the Boston Tea Party
QUICK, FRED, THE FLIT: There are rumors around that this is Britain's revenge for the Boston Tea Party. You guessed it . . . the Beatles have arrived in the United States for their first appearance before an idolizing teen-age crowd, with the St. Vitus bounce. They take an airing in Central Park. No. There is no truth to the buzz that the Zoo's laughing hyena was driven underground.

KILLING JOKE embarked on a 40th-anniversary world tour, Laugh At Your Peril, in the fall. The band kicked off the trek in the United States at the Studio Seven in Seattle on Saturday, September 1 before heading into mainland Europe. This run of 45 shows concludes at the Roundhouse in London on Saturday, November 17.
Forty years ago this summer I met Big Paul. One year later, we released our first EP, says frontman Jaz Coleman. Our 40th-anniversary celebrations will therefore be stretched over two years and begin with a world tour, parties and talks by Youth and myself, a new magnum opus by KILLING JOKE, who is, after all this time, recognized as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time. Love is the law. Let the festivities begin!
Forty years in the wilderness... Thought that was supposed to be 40 days, adds bassist Youth. As Jaz reminds me, 'Survival is success,' and although the band have never been fiscally fat commercially, it has allowed us to have incredible lives, both individually and collectively, and we have created a very rich wealth of uncompromising music. It's a legacy that spans four decades… 40 years of spine-tingling, uncompromising beautiful noise. The band continue to inspire and bludgeon down the bullshit in the world into a white-hot, blast furnace dub of unrelenting passion, a roller-coaster, white-knuckle punch in the face of beautiful agony/reality and timeless cosmic joy and soul.
To commit to the creative beauty and vision you have as an artist is an almost perverse way to live a life and the cost and consequences are immense... yet this is how we inform ourselves as a society of what is real and important in a world of fake news and fake emotions. Like Shiva dancing the world into existence, we are all simultaneously destroying and creating every moment of our reality. It is not through politics that the world is changed but through art. Art alone can tell us who we really are — emotionally, intellectually and physically — far better than anything else. That is why we have committed so much, for so long to this one idea... KILLING JOKE. Thanks to all the fans and gatherers that have supported and joined us in this endless quest.

Boston Massachusetts 1905 Panoramic Bird's Eye View Map 6789
Panoramic Maps, also known as Bird's Eye View, aerial view, or perspective maps. These were a popular form of art at the turn of the 20th century depicting a city's key points of interest.
Unlike traditional maps, Panoramic maps often highlighted the commercial aspects of a town, while also clearly showing many local residences.
I've had a lot fun looking up places I've been to on these maps -- and I've gotta say - It's amazing just how much things change -- and also how much things stay the same.

Die116 Last Laugh
In 1994 the New York Hardcore outfit BURN had imploded leaving in its wake appearances on two compilation albums ( Rebuilding Comp. and the Forever Comp. ) and a vicious four song ep on Revelation Records - considered by many as one of the most important and influential 1990 album releases, setting a standard in style and attitude just as the Cro Mags 'Age of Quarrel' and Agnostic Front's 'United Blood' had in the early 1980's. - Gavin Van Vlack's post BURN band was DIE 116, formed with members of the also recently defuncted Hardcore Metal outfit RORSCHACH. Suffice to say this union seemed the musical equivalent of Godzilla meets King Kong.
This original line up, though short lived, consisted of Pete on menacing vox, Keith and Pat on thrash metal guitars, Gavin on power blues bass and Andrew on the kit - playing a percussive style reminiscent of 'Animal' from the Muppets if he were raised on Slayer and Buddy Rich.
Die 116 would challenge the Post Hardcore sound with their 'Damage Control' ep and follow up full length album 'Dyna-Cool' both produced by Martin Bisi (most notably known for producing Sonic Youth's 'Evol' album.) Though they would survive a major line up change that would see Gavin Van Vlack returning to the guitar and taking on vocal duties, DIE 116 would ultimately disband and splinter into other musical projects namely PRY, DEAD GUY and KISS IT GOODBYE. In the end Die116 would garner cult status, leaving a mine field of utterly original music that would make any band question their direction in the face of a pure New York sound, not made for mass production but built to self - destruct...

MS-13's Active Members Are Laughing At Trump's Crackdown (HBO)
MS-13 has long been known as one of the deadliest street gangs in the world, but under the Trump administration, the fight against this criminal network of mostly Salvadoran young men, many of whom are immigrants, has ramped up dramatically.
MS-13 (or Mara Salvatrucha) wasn’t created in El Salvador; it was born in Los Angeles in the 1980s, founded by refugees from El Salvador’s civil war. In the 1980s, many of those gang members were deported back to El Salvador, where they quickly took advantage of the war-torn nation.
Now, with the Trump administration vowing to eliminate the gang at all costs, VICE News gained rare access inside the MS-13 underworld in El Salvador as they are hunted by police and rival gangs. Members told VICE News that the rhetoric from the White House has struck a nerve and warned there will be deadly consequences to the crackdown.

The building is dedicated to the memory of President Kennedy and designed by I.M. Pei .
“When Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis sought the perfect location for the JFK presidential library, she looked to the sea that President Kennedy loved so well. This site on Dorchester Bay encompasses a 9.5 acre park, landscaped with pine trees, shrubs, and wild roses reminiscent of the Cape Cod landscape familiar to President Kennedy.” John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
“Poetry and Power” – The Inaugural Address of John F Kennedy
“Assuming office in the midst of the Cold War, JFK understood that his inaugural address would have to instill confidence at home and respect abroad. He believed that democracy thrives only when citizens contribute their talents to the common good, and that is up to leaders to inspire citizens to acts of sacrifice. And when he exhorted people to “ask not what your country can do for you,” he appealed to their noblest instincts, voice a message that Americans were eager to hear.
The speech was crafted by JFK and Theodore C. Sorensen, one of Kennedy’s closest advisers. With a longstanding working relationship dating from JFK’s days in the Senate, Kennedy and Sorensen shared a unique synchronization in their way of thinking. The inaugural address and other hallmark Kennedy speeches were the products of that historic collaboration of two men who believed in the power of words.” John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
“ ’The president, Kennedy believed, “must serve as a catalyst, an energizer, the defender of the publice good against all the narrow private interests which operate in our society.’ ”
Profile in Courage Award created in 1989 by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation to “honor the president’s courage by contemporary elected officials. The silver lantern, which represents a beacon of hope, was designed by Edwin Schlossberg and made by Tiffany & Company. It is presented annually, on or near May 29, in celebration of President Kennedy’s birthday.”
Special Exhibit: 100th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s birth presents 100 items from the Kennedy Library
U.S. Flag from PT 109, replaced July 1943, the month before the boat was sunk.
“This wind-tattered flag, replaced by a new one shortly before PT 109 was sunk, is one of the few physical remnants from the boat that still exisits.”
PT109 was commanded by John F. Kennedy during World War II. He helped save his crew after the boat sank and became a war hero from his actions.
“John F. Kennedy Becomes The 35th President of the United States
John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th president on January 20, 1961. In his inaugural speech he spoke of the need for all Americans to be active citizens. Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country, he said.
The White House also seemed like a fun place because of the Kennedys’ two young children, Caroline and John-John. There was a pre-school, a swimming pool, and a tree-house outside on the White House lawn. President Kennedy was probably the busiest man in the country, but he still found time to laugh and play with his children.
One of the first things President Kennedy did was to create the Peace Corps. President Kennedy was also eager for the United States to lead the way in exploring space.
President Kennedy had to deal with many serious problems here in the United States. The biggest problem of all was racial discrimination.
Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the famous leaders of the movement for civil rights. Many civil rights leaders didn’t think President Kennedy was supportive enough of their efforts. The President believed that holding public protests would only anger many white people and make it even more difficult to convince the members of Congress who didn't agree with him to pass civil rights laws. By June 11, 1963, however, President Kennedy decided that the time had come to take stronger action to help the civil rights struggle. He proposed a new Civil Rights bill to the Congress, and he went on television asking Americans to end racism. One hundred years of delay have passed since President Lincoln freed the slaves, yet their heirs, their grandsons, are not fully free, he said. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds…[and] on the principle that all men are created equal. President Kennedy made it clear that all Americans, regardless of their skin color, should enjoy a good and happy life in the United States. “
