Adventure: #85 Lone Elk Park
Lone Elk Park is a great place to drive through and see Elk or Bison. They do have a hiking trail in the Elk section called the White Bison Trail. At 3.2 miles it gets you close to the Elk. I took a walk on the trail in hopes of improving my wildlife photography. I also stopped off at the Wild Bird Sanctuary for a look.

Lone Elk Park
There is a St Louis County Park with Bison and Elks roaming free. There are two baby calf elks. One has a wound to one of it's legs. They have attached a dart with antibiotics to the upper leg. The calf suckles while its Mom cleans its wound. The other calf stays near it's sibling. The Bull Elks and Bison are close by roaming also.

Short slideshow of visit to Lone Elk Park (St. Louis Co., MO)
80*F in mid-February? Get outta here! But, yep, it sure was.
Deb and I took the chance to head to the park for the afternoon.
Lone Elk Park is off of Highway 141 at Interstate 44 in western St. Louis County. This park is a lot of fun, especially for kids that like to see large animals and play in the woods and grasslands.
The park has 546 acres. About half is fenced for a herd of American bison. The area can be driven through but you are supposed to stay in your vehicle at all times, and the park refuses to accept any liability for injury or for vehicle damage if one of the creatures charges a car. (Although it is not common, it has been known to happen.)
The park also has a sizable herd of elk, whence the park's name.
There are a lot of picnic spots, and some hiking trails, along with a coupe of large pavilions that can be reserved for groups. There are two small lakes. One is in the bison area and is accessible only to park personnel. The other, larger one, is near the entrance and has hiking trails around the perimeter. There is some fishing allowed on a limited basis.
Here is a link to the park's official web page:
