Yachts don't come here to cape town. This is why. I really wish more boats came to South Africa but they would need to be big or explorer type vessels. Lots of wind, lots of seas but also ... Lots of beauty.
Thanks for watching.
#4t Looking at Knysna 500 Catamaran and Lagoon 39 at Cape Town South Africa boat show Sailing Sisu
This is a bit tricky! We went to Cape Town 2017 boat show to see if we made the right choice... We started this week by looking at the Lagoon 39 Catamaran and the Knysna 500 Catamaran. Is that catamaran for sale?

V&A Waterfront - Harbour Cruise
A great way to cruise Cape Town's harbour, and it's only R40/$3 for an awesome 25 minute ride. This is the return part of the journey, from the Victoria Basin, to the Alfred Basin and then the V&A Marina.
The Waterfront Harbour Cruise leaves from and returns to the jetty just south of the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, running several times a day, weather permitting.
Cruise tickets cost R35 if you book online and R20 for kids.
To book online go to:
Handy maps of the V&A Waterfront:
It's well worth it with lots to see, and plenty of Cape Fur Seals along the way.

On a personal note, I love this city. Cape Town is amazing, and even more so after having visited 130 cities around the world. I will get better at filming and video editing, because shaky and out of focus video does the natural beauty and wonder of South Africa no justice :-D My editing has improved amazingly after just 5 videos, and with some new stabilised camera gear this will become reality.
Arniston and the Fishermen of Kassiesbaai
Sunrise in Arniston at South Africa's Overberg Coast. It's getting hectic in the little harbour. The fishermen from the village of Kassiesbaai are launching their boats. Tension on the men's faces. Will the calm weather hold? Or will a storm come up?
The quaint hamlet is a national monument. The name Kassiesbaai is Afrikaans meaning bay of the little boxes - because the thatched, whitewashed Fisherman's houses look like boxes if you see them from far.
Arniston has beautiful swimming beaches, with fine sand and turquoise blue water. In summer it's wunderful to go for a swim here. The Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve with its huge sanddunes is ideal for long walks along the coast. Next to the fishing harbour lies the Arniston Spa Hotel - one of the best wellness venues at the Cape. The rooms have a generous lay-out. With balconies and stunning seaviews. There are also many holiday houses for rent in Arniston.
In the afternoon the fischermen return from the sea. The first incoming boat had no luck at all. No fishes. The weather was too stormy, the sea too rough. But then, on the second boat: Smiling faces. These men had better luck. The fish was caught in great deapth today. The catch of the day is mainly Red Roman. This delicious fish is sold to Cape Town. The prices for fish are good there. Red Roman will - of course - also feature on the hotel's dinner menu tonight.
After just an hour the daily event is over. Then it is getting quiet again in the little harbour of Arniston. What remains are the gentle sounds of the sea.

Launch of the Two Oceans 700 Day Charter Sailing Catamaran
June 2-19 was a busy month for the team at Two Oceans Marine, with the launch of two big charter catamarans. The second one to launch was the Two Oceans 700 Day Charter Sailing Catamaran. She is designed by Du Toit Yacht Design. Her exciting launch took the better part of the day due to the rigorous task of stepping the mast, built by Sparcraft Masts. Her sails are made by Ullman Sails South Africa - a real proudly Cape Town project! More pics and video to follow...

Xquisite X5 - The boat I will sail 10,000+ NM across the South Atlantic from South Africa to the USA
Ep172. In this episode of Cruising Off Duty, we are taking a test sail of the Xquisite X5 Catamaran at the end of the Annapolis Sailboat Show. I have been invited to take the inaugural sail of hull #7 of this 50' Catamaran from Cape Town South Africa, 10,000+ nautical Miles across the South Atlantic, across the equator to the Caribbean and then on the East Coast of the USA. This voyage will take at least 6 weeks to complete and will surely have us sailing through all sorts of sailing conditions, from the doldrums near the equator to times where there will surely be in high winds and high waves.
It will be the adventure of a lifetime and I will be filming the entire journey to share on the Cruising Off Duty channel and website. There are anticipated stops, to replenish supplies, at Namibia Africa, St Helena Island and Ascension Island (2 of the most remote islands in the world, in the middle of the South Atlantic) then 4,000 NM across the equator to the southern tip of the Caribbean before making our way North through the islands to Florida and up the east coast to North Carolina.
At well over 10,000 nautical miles, I am sure this will be one of the longest sailing passages I will ever complete in my sailing life. With such a long passage there are risks of sailing through some extremely hair raising conditions but that makes the passage that much more exciting and should make for some great future episodes.
Along the way, when I have access to the internet, I plan to send short video updates to Patrons of the channel. Find out how to become a member of the COD patron crew at Patreon.com/CruisingOffDuty. From the boat, we should have an Iridium Go satellite modem that will allow basic photos to be sent. If that possible, I will be uploading them to the Cruising Off Duty Facebook page, so follow the page so you can see those photos updates as we progress across the Ocean.
Hopefully, you will find this voyage as exciting as I do and will follow along by subscribing to the Cruising Off Duty Youtube channel at:
Youtube.com/CruisingOffDuty or at the website at CruisingOffDuty.com
A live episode should be produced within the next week where you will see Janice and I talking about this voyage and you can ask any questions to us at that time. Perhaps ask Janice how she feels about me going on this trip alone. Somehow she doesn't seem nervous about it? Not sure why because even I feel a bit nervous with all the unknowns.
More excitement coming soon to the channel.
Craig

Launching South Africa's biggest composite catamaran
A week ago, on 29 May 2019, Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing launched the Two Oceans 110 Day Charter Catamaran, the biggest composite catamaran to ever be launched in South Africa.
It's no mean feat to transport and launch a 110 foot catamaran weighing over 50 tons, and the operation went smoothly.
We'll be posting videos and images of her on her sea trails before she heads to the Seychelles over the next two weeks.
