Oregon Inlet: Shifting in the Tides
Presented by Current TV - This 26 minute documentary outlines the history of Oregon Inlet and its economic impact to Dare County and the state of North Carolina and how the inlet is being shaped for the future.
Oregon Inlet OBX
Our first stop on our trip was the Oregon Inlet Campground operated by the National Park System. There are few amenities in this campground as far as RV hookups are concerned but it was a very nice stay none the less. Just be prepared for the weather and the temperatures during your stay as there is a quiet time and no generators can be run over night.

Bonner Bridge Press Conference
NCDOT Secretary Tony Tata briefs the media on today's ruling in the Bonner Bridge lawsuit. Federal Judge Flanagan denied a motion by the Southern Environmental Law Center to stop the project to replace the nearly 3-mile bridge over Oregon Inlet in Dare County. For more information, visit

Something a little different today! Here is a look at the view from the bridge on my way to Nags Head. The water is really pretty today and the clouds really popped in the sky. The bridge is like the symbol of definite vacation for most people... once you're over it's all about relaxation.
Oregon Inlet
Oregon Inlet is an inlet along North Carolina's Outer Banks. It joins the Pamlico Sound with the Atlantic Ocean and separates Bodie Island from Pea Island, which are connected by a 2.5 mile bridge that spans the inlet. As one of the few access points to the ocean along this stretch of coast, Oregon Inlet is a major departure point for charter fishing trips, with a nearby harbor serving as the base for many large boats that travel miles out towards the Gulf Stream almost every day. The area is also home to a U.S. Coast Guard station.

North Carolina Sea Aquarium - Roanoke Island, Outerbanks/Cape Hatteras
We had a blast here at the Aquarium in Roanoke Island. The Aquarium opened in 1976 and has a tank at 285,000 gallons that houses the biggest shark collections in the state of North Carolina.
More information is here:
The Aquarium displays a lot of different species of aquatic animals from sharks, snakes, to alligators, jellyfish and many more! We also had the chance to visit the S.T.A.R. program where they rescue sea turtles rehabilitate them, and release them back into the ocean! Have fun watching the video.
Links about the Aqurium are down below and my equipment used:

Matador Charters transiting Oregon Inlet, N.C. on an especially rough winter day with big breaking waves on board the 42' Ray Davis Charter boat Matador. There's no turning back as huge seas show us why Oregon Inlet is a very dangerous place to boaters. Capt. Jake Hiles and Capt. Robert Mudgett are professionals. DONT TRY THIS AT HOME!

Outer Banks, NC - RV Living
We finally made it to the Outer Banks!!! For us, this was one of those places that held an almost mystical value and had been on our radar to visit since the day we purchased our Airstream, so we are doing our happy dance (internally) to have this dream become a reality. To keep things within our budget we stay in two of the areas four Hatteras National Seashore campgrounds - Frisco Campground and Oregon Inlet Campground. We take the ferry over to the island of Ocracoke, which ends up being a saga in itself, but once we get there we thoroughly enjoy our time exploring the village, lighthouse, campground, and beach. We also visit the Wright Brothers Memorial and learn about man's first flight, Jockey Ridge State Park to climb the East Coast's tallest sand dune, and have an unparalleled donut experience thanks to Duck Donuts. We meet up with friends where TJ has the opportunity to do some fishing while Bri climbs the Bodie Lighthouse. In the end, we are glad for all the detours that brought us here at just the right time!

Jetty Fishing for Flounder at The Oregon Inlet
Went fishing from shore at the Oregon Inlet for a couple hours today. It was a very windy day with steady winds at 25 mph and gust much higher. Luckily this spot was sheltered by the Bridge and the Jetty rocks.
