Catamaran found by Florence Hurricane Hunter Air Force Plane, Sailing Across the Atlantic
Hurricane Hunter aircraft flying through the eye of category 4 hurricane Florence, found the 41-foot sailing catamaran crossing the North Atlantic dodging three named cyclonic storms. The 2019 Bali 4.1 luxury catamaran named Vaughanderlust with a crew of a French captain and American mate were bound for the Dream Yacht Charter boat base in Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas after departing Portugal on August 18, 2018.
Slow Boat Sailing corresponded with Sean Connett who identified himself to Slow Boat Sailing as working for the Coast Guard’s Miami Rescue Coordination Center and PA1 Michael De Nyse responding on the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast. We also spoke to the Dream Yacht Charter's base to confirm the safe arrival of the catamaran crew at 9 AM on September 14, 2018, in Marsh Harbor, Abacos, Bahamas.
A press release from the U.S. Air Force said:
“Hurricane Hunters locate lost vessel, assist U.S. Coast Guard
The Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron assisted the U.S. Coast Guard with locating a 41-foot Bali sailing catamaran during a search and rescue mission Sept. 11, 2018. They assisted with the SAR mission after completing their mission for Hurricane Florence. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Jessica Kendziorek)”
Sailing La Vagabonde recently said in Why we Chose to Sail during Hurricane Season! (Hurricane Gordon & Florence) that they planned to sail through hurricane season because they could outrun weather in a catamaran.

Panama City Beach Florida
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate hit the warm water and white beach in Panama City Beach, Florida. We wanted a great family beach in Florida, and we found one of the nicest beaches in Florida. Some of the Panama City Beach attractions are dolphin tours, catamaran cruises, and a ride on a replica pirate ship. The largest collection of bottlenose dolphins hang out about Panama City Beach and actually play alongside the tourist boats that bring people to PC Beach. We took a ferry to Shell Island, where the kids snorkeled and collected sand dollars and hundreds of beautiful shells. The town also boasts WonderWorks, Ripley's Believe it or Not, and lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. We camped on the waterfront at St. Andrew's State Park, and we were just steps from the beach in Panama City. If camping isn't your thing, Panama City vacations often involve a stay at a large, swanky resort right on the beach. The Panama City spring break is world renowned but we enjoyed the family atmosphere.

Panama City Beach Boating Adventure 2014
Thanks to a good friend, and a little barter work, We got to experience this great little weekend adventure. Stan, O/O of the Top Dog, took us out for a nice 2 days on the Gulf. Started out with a trip a few miles out into open water and threw out some lines. Picked up a mix of fish along the way without too much trouble. Freshest fish you'll ever have, they cooked up a bit for lunch and put the rest on ice. About sun set, turned back around and set anchor a few dozen feet off the beach, swam to shore for some dinner, then returned and crashed for the night after chatting on deck for a bit. Morning rolls around, and do a little more fishing. About mid morning, we head back for shore and hook a right for the ocean side of Shell Island. Before we even set anchor, a pair of dolphins came right to the boat. They stuck around for longer than I expected, as I'm sure they were hoping to be fed some of our catch. Hung out here for a little while and enjoyed the water. Its some where closer to Noon now, and we had a 4.5hr drive home, so it was time to head back in. Time and location of videos taken in Panama City Beach, FL between 9-20 and 9-21 2014. Approx 2 half days were compressed into a single viewed day for continuity. GoPro Hero2 and Hero3 Black were used for the entire recording. Stan is accepting Day charters, contact me for details!
