Quandry Peak - Colorado 14er Dayhike
Quandary Peak is a fourteener in the U.S. state of Colorado and the highest peak in the Tenmile Range at an elevation of 14,265 ft, a northern extension of the Mosquito Range. It has nearly the same elevation as Castle Peak and Mount Evans. Easy year-around road access, a class 1 standard route, and panoramic views from the summit ensure that you'll rarely find solitude on Quandary's summit.
Colorado Rockies - Quandary Peak
The winter climb of Quandary Peak. Part of the camera broke off near the beginning (the button to take pictures and the ever to zoom) so no photographic documentation of this climb was possible. This, the only thing left was to record video...and what a day for video it was! The climb was short (5 hours from start to finish), but boy was it windy and cold.

VR: Summit of Quandary Peak (14er) - 5.2K - Breckenridge, CO
This is the surrounding view at the top of Quandary Peak in Breckenridge, Colorado. It is a 14er. I managed to hike up it in under 4 hours and then back down in about 2 hours. I came from Phoenix, Arizona where the elevation is 1086 feet. The elevation of Quandary Peak is 14265 feet. It was tough to breathe, but I managed to make it to the top faster than some of the locals so if you are in fairly good shape and planning to visit hike from out of state you should be able to do it. You may need to take a lot of short breathing breaks on the way up, but it can be done. I started at about 12:30 pm and finished at about 6:30 pm. There was ample parking available when I arrived at the mountain. I saw a mountain goat on the way down, but it didn't seem to mind that I was there.

Directions:
From Leadville: Drive 20 miles south on U.S. 24 and turn right on the Chaffee County 390 road. From Buena Vista: Drive 14.5 miles north on U.S. 24 and turn left on the Chaffee County 390 road. On the 390 road, drive 7.5 miles to a sign for the Missouri Gulch trailhead. Turn left and drive down into the large parking area. There are restrooms here.
Weather:
During July the weather can be very warm at the trailhead and cool dramatically the higher in elevation and exposure to wind. Rain should be expected to roll in the afternoon around 11am - 3pm. This doesn't always mean lightning, but usually safer than sorry is the best bet. It is best to periodically check the clouds throughout your hike to see the warning signs of an on coming storm.

Me and Sparky are headed up the Mohawk Lakes Trail, it also features a super big waterfall you can get up close and personal with. Me and sparky had beautiful weather for the hike.
The hike
This hike was 8.6 miles out and back rated moderate, I would say the beginning was very easy moderate, once you get up near the falls and upper lake though it switches over to more difficult.
Good thing me and sparky love difficult and challenging hikes!
This hike took us about 4-5 hours we took plenty of breaks and had an amazing time!

Great Sand Dunes Quandary Peak
On a motorcycle ride to New Mexico, I made a wrong turn and wound up at Great Sand Dunes National Park a day early. Checking in on Sunday night was smart since the weekenders had already left for home that afternoon. In the morning, I was rewarded by clear skies and strong shadows--even a few deer roaming through the campground. After noticing the wind brushing the grass and watching grass hoppers divot the sand, I made tracks for Breckenridge. I was resolving one day to ride Medano pass but learned there are 3 or more miles of sand; thus, motorcycles are prohibited. I observed lots of gold mining still going on around Fairplay and Alma. I got side-tracked up Monte Cristo Creek toward Quandary Peak and Blue Lakes. The Guzzi Norge made it up that road easily. Riding from Breckenridge back to Denver was on-and-off rain. Always bring rain gear when riding the Rockies. The summer monsoon rains start in the mountains at about noon and reach the front range by four. The still pictures are in my Picasa albums.

Summiting Quandary Peak for my 6-year old's 1st 14er
This video follows my 6-year old son as he summits his first 14er. At the top we are joined by my 4-year old (also his first 14er) and the rest of the family. Beautiful day on the summit so far though the weather was just beginning to turn against us.
