RHS Garden Hyde Hall is a public display garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society in the English county of Essex, east of London.

Hyde Hall Gardens is one of the Royal Horticultural Society gardens and is situated south of Chelmsford in Essex. It wasn’t the best of days and a little more sunshine would have brought out the best in these gardens.
In 1955 when Dr. and Mrs. Robinson came to Hyde Hall there were only six trees on the top of a windswept hill and no garden. Helen Robinson had an interest in gardening and cleared areas around the house planting anything available. In this way she created herbaceous borders and a vegetable garden close to the house and established the framework of the garden with some 60 young trees bought at an auction sale in Wickford Market. Over the years a garden started to emerge and Hyde Hall Gardens Trust was set up in 1976 and then in 1993 the garden became the responsibility of the Royal Horticultural Society having been bequeathed by the Trust to ensure its future survival. Hyde Hall - RHS Garden
RHS Garden Hyde Hall is a public display garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society in the English county of Essex, east of London. It is one of four public gardens run by the Society, alongside Wisley in Surrey, RHS Garden Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire, and RHS Garden Rosemoor in Devon. In the year ended 31 January 2010 it received 130,011 visitors.
The garden at Hyde Hall was created by Dr and Mrs Robinson in 1955.[1] Hyde Hall was formerly a working farm on a hilltop surrounded by arable land. The site was cleared and 60 trees purchased from Wickford market a few miles away. These trees now form the Woodland Garden.
In the 1960s shelter belts of Lawson and Leyland cypress hedges were planted. During this decade the farmland to the west of the Hyde Hall hilltop was incorporated into the garden.
In 1976 Helen and Dick Robinson formed the Hyde Hall Garden Trust which would manage the garden on a long-term basis. The trust donated Hyde Hall to the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993

Chelmsford is the principal settlement of the City of Chelmsford and the county town of Essex, in the East of England. Chelmsford is located in the London commuter belt, approximately 32 miles (51 km) northeast of the notional Centre of London at Charing Cross and approximately 22 miles (35 km) from Colchester.
The main conurbation of Chelmsford incorporates all or part of the former parishes of Broomfield, Great Baddow, Galleywood, Writtle, Moulsham, Widford and Springfield, including Springfield Barnes, now known as Chelmer Village. The communities of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Chelmsford, Ontario, and Chelmsford, New Brunswick, are named after the city.

I passed by Hyde Hall the other day and made this short film. As you can see Hyde Hall which dates back to at least 1625 is in a desperately poor state of repair and in many places is on the verge of complete collapse.
Last year I attended a lecture by the Denton Local History Society. The subject was the neighbouring manor house to Hyde Hall which was know as Denton Hall. Sadly all that remains of Denton Hall now are faded memories. The hall stood just off Windmill Lane close to what is now a brick factory. Apparently if you look closely enough you can still find evidence of a subterranean escape route linking Hyde Hall with Denton Hall which was used by clergymen fleeing persecution in the violent decades following the Reformation.
