Bellingham Bay Washington Things To Do Along Bellingham Bay
Bellingham Bay Washington was named after a friend of Captain George Vancouver during his exploration of the Pacific Northwest. Bellingham's downtown and Bellingham Bay are a lively place during the warmer months with lots of private boats and sailboats packing the harbor.
Bellingham is also a popular departure port for the San Juan Islands with a number of yacht charter companies and whale watching excursion boats. Locals can also enjoy an inexpensive bay cruise, seafood dinner cruise and other special event cruises like the annual 4th of July cruise.
If you are looking for things to do in Bellingham consider visiting the waterfront and enjoy one of several parks.

Bellingham Washington Visitor Info - Bellingham Washington's Waterfront Welcomes Visitors
Bellingham Washington is known as one of Washington's most livable small cities. Located close to the Canadian border has made Bellingham WA is also popular with Canadian shoppers and day trippers from Vancouver and southern British Columbia.
The city of Bellingham WA has been placed on a number of national best places to live lists and its easy to see why. Bellingham has a wealth of outdoor recreational activities right at its doorstep from skiing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing in freshwater and saltwater, and much more.
The city of Bellingham's Squalicum Harbor is home to a fleet of commercial fishing boats, private yachts, Whale Watching excursion boats. Due to Bellingham's close proximity to the San Juan Islands it also hosts a substantial fleet of charter boats and yacht.
The city of Bellingham has been given a rare opportunity to redevelop a large portion of its waterfront due to the closure of a large paper products factory owned by Georgia Pacific. The large tract of land once owned by paper products giant has been donated to the city of Bellingham. The city lost a major employer but it gained what could be one of Washington State's most amazing new waterfront developments--that is if you could get people to agree on what to do with it.
Does the state really need another children's museum?
Does the state really need another cruise terminal?
Does the state really need another sea life park?
Does the state really need another shopping center?
Does the state really need more luxury condos?
It will be interesting to see what ultimately happens to the waterfront--Stand by.

Explore Washington Recreation: Patos Island, San Juan Islands
Welcome to the northwestern-most point in the lower 48 states! Patos Island is a wild and remote 200-acre island in the beautiful Salish Sea. The mountains of Canada and the spectacular Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges provide scenic backdrops to this special area.
Recreational activities include hiking, camping, boating, sea kayaking, watching wildlife, and viewing wildflowers along the beaches, wooded areas, and at overlooks. The BLM cooperatively manages the area with Washington State Parks.
Patos Island Lighthouse, built in 1893, stands on the western-most end of the island, providing light and reference to mariners.
Know Before You Go:
Patos Island is open YEAR ROUND.
Limited mooring buoys and campsites in Active Cove are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Patos Island is only accessible by watercraft.
Washington State Park fees apply.
Patos Island is very primitive and there is no fresh water available on site.
On Oct. 7, 2014, San Juan County became the first County in the U.S. designated as a voluntary “Leave No Trace” area. Please help and practice LNT.
Patos Island State Park is located 5 miles northwest of Orcas Island in San Juan County. It is accessible only by boat and there is no commercial ferry service to the park. The nearest launch sites are at Point Roberts Marina (13 miles north), Blaine Harbor (11 miles northeast), and Squallicum Harbor in Bellingham (24 miles east).
Keepers of the Patos Light is a nonprofit partner group that operates a small interpretive museum during the summer weekends from June through September, based on weather and available volunteers.

A Visit to The Whale Museum, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington
The Whale Museum promotes stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research. Visit this historic building in downtown Friday Harbor, only three blocks from the ferry landing. With fun and educational exhibits about whales, free videos, and a well-stocked gift shop that features marine mammal books, art and gifts, the Whale Museum is a great first stop on a visit to Friday Harbor.
There are 172 named islands and reefs in San Juan County, however the four ferry served Islands; San Juan Island (with the county seat Friday Harbor), Orcas Island, Lopez Island and Shaw Island are the most populous and host the vast majority of lodging and dining options and tourism activities.
So breathe deep, get comfortable (casual is the rule on these islands, from clothes to the friendly greetings you’ll receive.) Relax—you’re on “island time” now.
