Exploring St Margaret's
Our Historic Village
St Margaret's is located near to Dover in Kent. It is made up of three areas, the old village centre grouped round the 12th century village church, the residential area of Nelson Park and St Margaret's Bay. The village only has a small population of about 2,500 residents but it has a very rich and unusual history and has been home to famous figures such as Noel Coward, Ian Fleming and Henry Royce.
Our Lighthouse on the South Foreland, now owned and opened to the public by the National Trust, was the first in the world to be lit by electricity and Marconi carried out early wireless experiments there.
The first cross channel telephone cable was laid from St Margaret's Bay to France in 1891 and the bay has also seen the start of many cross channel swims. Henry Royce developed Rolls- Royce's first aero engine whilst living here in 1915 and the last bomb to land on England during the First World War fell here in May 1918.
During the Second World War the village was mainly occupied by military personnel manning cross channel guns and it was shelled in turn directly from France with over 600 shells landing here. The original village ARP books are one of the treasures of the archive.
Today the village is a thriving, active community with four pubs, two hotels and other holiday accommodation, a post office, primary and nursery schools, village shop and a large village hall for community organisations and events. Walkers, cyclists, bird watchers and many others visit throughout the year to enjoy our many cliff and country walks, the Pines gardens, St Margaret's Museum and the beautiful views across the channel.

The Return of Sherlock Holmes
Sir Arthur Conan DOYLE
The book was first published in February 1905 by McClure, Phillips & Co. (New York) then on March 7, 1905 by Georges Newnes, Ltd. (London) and was the first Holmes collection since 1893, when Holmes had died in The Final Problem. Having published The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1901–1902 (setting it before Holmes' death) Doyle came under intense pressure to revive his famous character.
The first story is set in 1894 and has Holmes returning in London and explaining the period from 1891–94, a period called The Great Hiatus by Sherlockian enthusiasts. Also of note is Watson's statement in the last story of the cycle that Holmes has retired, and forbids him to publish any more stories. - Summary by Wikipedia

The Wisdom of Father Brown Video / Audiobook [1/3] By G. K. Chesterton
This book is a collection of twelve stories starring the priest, Father Brown and his friend Inspector Flambeau written in the first half of the twentieth century. Father Brown solves things by observation and thought, in some ways like Poirot, but in an unassuming and modest manner. The stories are each very different, but are very good reading(Review by Scilla)

Three Men and a Maid by P. G. Wodehouse
Three Men and a Maid in the USA and The Girl on the Boat in the UK, is a typical P.G. Wodehouse romantic comedy, involving, at various times: a disastrous talent quest, a lawyer with a revolver, a bulldog with a mind of his own and a suit of armour!
The maid, or marriageable young woman, is red-haired, dog-loving Wilhelmina Billie Bennet. The three men are Bream Mortimer, a long-time friend and admirer of Billie, Eustace Hignett, a poet of sensitive disposition who is engaged to Billie at the opening of the tale, and Sam Marlowe, Eustace's would-be-dashing cousin, who falls for Billie at first sight. All four find themselves on an ocean liner headed for England together, along with an elephant-gun-wielding young woman called Jane Hubbard who is smitten with Eustace the poet. Typically Wodehousian romantic shenanigans ensue.
