Ellicott City Flash Flood 8 / 1 2016 Live
If you are looking for the perfect, eclectic fusion of where old time Maryland history meets savvy, suburban culture, then Ellicott City, Maryland just might be what you are looking for. Nestled in the quaint, woodsy confines mere paces away from the scenic forested river valley of the Patuxent River, Ellicott City, Maryland is full of history and charm. Notably one of the most affluent places in America, Ellicott City stays in the list of the top twenty best places to live in the United States by Money and CNNMoney.com.
Home to the oldest railroad station in America, Ellicott City boasts all things elegant and charming. Named after Andrew Ellicott, one of classic America's most poignant surveyors, Ellicott City was once known as Ellicott Mills. It was in the late 18th century that the former Ellicott Mills was a renowned mill town. Since that time, it has grown considerably and while the historic downtown district seems to draw the most attention, it is the quiet affluence of its neighborhoods that keeps Ellicott City a cut above the rest.
There are three high schools, five middle schools, six elementary schools and two private schools within the city's two zip codes. Additionally, there is plenty of shopping centers and boutiques to satisfy the curious shopper.
A perfect blend of historic and contemporary entertainment, you'll find Ellicott City to be anything but dull. For years, it's been ranked among the 20 Best Places to Live, and residents can tell you why.
Ellicott is filled with beautifully maintained 18th century homes, a historic trolley line and the oldest passenger train still standing in the country. It is the home of the ancient Shrine of St. Anthony, and the grounds also have several walking trails and a grotto for visitors in search of solitude. The Downtown Historic District is a charming place to walk on weekends, with its collection of antique stores, boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops and even a tea room.
The resident Chesapeake Shakespeare Company embodies the spirit of Ellicott itself, putting a contemporary spin on the classic plays. They perform indoors and out, and the company is renowned through Maryland and D.C. for its energetic performances, use of audience participation and variety of educational programming.
Check out a ghost tour of the city at a Halloween time or go on a literary pub crawl year round. You'll visit the revered watering holes of Davy Crockett, Edgar Allen Poe and the Ellicotts, for whom the town is named. The Mall in Columbia is a favorite for shoppers, with hundreds of stores and dining options. Families enjoy picking farm-fresh strawberries in the summer and coming back for apples in the fall.
When you buy a house in this old town, you'll quickly find it won't get old.

The Unfortunate Fate of 9200 Old Annapolis Rd, Ellicott City, MD
It's a shame what is becoming of this once fine, vintage early 70s office building with an amazing elevator. It's being completely and brutally gutted into a modern piece of crap, even though it looked fine before. The design has been revealed and it sure is a childhood ruiner. It would be a MIRACLE if the elevator stayed original even after all this crap, but I HIGHLY doubt that'll be the case :(
