RIDGE CHURCH conversation with a Spirit
On my recent visit to Ridge Church in Lowdnesville SC, the former home of a group of practicing Satanists, I was getting responses by using a K2 meter upon arrival. The church is abandoned and no longer in use....no power sources/power meters were running. The property also contains 4 cemeteries.

Once a living fixture at her 16-year-old son's grave, long-suffering political wife Elizabeth Edward
VOICE-OVER SCRIPT:
THE MARBLE ANGEL WATCHING OVER WADE EDWARDS' GRAVE IS KNOWN AS A SURROGATE MOURNER. BUT THE STONE WOMAN CRADLING THE
16-YEAR-OLD BOY'S HEAD CAN ONLY HINT AT THE DEPTH OF ELIZABETH EDWARD'S GRIEF.
FOR YEARS AFTER HER SON'S DEATH, EDWARDS WOULD COME TO HIS GRAVE AND READ ALOUD, OR BRING HIS FAVORITE DRINK _ CHERRY COKE.
SOUNDBITE (English), Robert Mihaly, Sculptor. (Pronounced, Mi-HAY-lee)
You know, it's almost like SHE was that kind of Pieta here with her son. I mean, she would sit on the bench or even the ground _ and even lie on the ground.
NOW, THE MOTHER'S OWN GRAND MEMORIAL IS TAKING SHAPE BESIDE HER SON'S.
RALEIGH'S HISTORIC OAKWOOD CEMETERY IS THE FINAL RESTING PLACE FOR MANY PROMINENT NORTH CAROLINIANS.
FROM GOVERNORS... TO WAR HEROES ... TO NC STATE BASKETBALL COACH JIMMY VALVANO.
TO MANY, THE LONG-SUFFERING POLITICAL WIFE WAS ALSO A HERO _ FACING CANCER AND HER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HUSBAND'S INFIDELITY WITH COURAGE AND GRACE.
SINCE HER DEATH IN DECEMBER 2010, A STEADY STREAM OF TOURISTS AND ADMIRERS HAS COME TO VISIT HER GRAVE.
SOUNDBITE (English), Lori Clark, Tourist.
The monument is beautiful.
NEAR THE END, EDWARDS CALLED SCULPTOR ROBERT MIHALY TO HER DEATH BED TO DISCUSS HER GRAVESTONE.
HE HAD CREATED THE MARKER FOR HER SON, WHO DIED IN A CAR CRASH.
SOUNDBITE (English), Robert Mihaly, Sculptor.
I had my ear up to her mouth as she tried to explain what she wanted.
SHE DESCRIBED MARBLE VINES TRAILING ACROSS THE GROUND FROM HER STONE AND CLIMBING UP TO EMBRACE WADE'S.
SOUNDBITE (English), Robert Mihaly, Sculptor.
It's the most wonderful idea. And it's where all the real pathos is. It's what's really going to make her monument special.
AN IMAGE OF A PUBLIC WOMAN'S SPIRIT, TAKING FLIGHT. OF A MOTHER AND SON, UNITED FOREVER.

The Ghosts of Gold Hill
Long before gold was discovered in other parts of the country, the small community of Gold Hill in Rowan County was producing gold. The gold mines have long dried up, but other treasures remain. Journey with Carl to this quaint community to discover a fun paranormal adventure.
In 1840, there were nearly thirty taverns and only two churches. The mayor of Charlotte was said to have hoped that his community would one day be as prosperous as Gold Hill.
Although Gold Hill is open throughout the year, each October the community hosts a ghost tour that highlights some of the most popular ghost stories ever told, including a hay ride to the area's haunted places. Along the way, story tellers share the history, the mystery, and folk tales surrounding key haunting spots.
One local tale is that two miners, good friends, were working in a mine together when the younger of the two was accidentally impaled by a falling timber. As he lay dying, he asked his friend to take care of his family, and for the rest of his life the older miner did so. The young miner's son later reported that his deceased father came to his bed every morning and pleaded with him to not work in the mines. The son never did.
On night in 1900 Captain Joseph Newman made multiple entries in his diary about his intent to blow himself up with dynamite, and before dawn he did so. Over fifty years later a group of boys claimed they were chased by body parts near the remains of Joe Newman's cabin.
At the turn of the century, mediums used cards and crystal balls to communicate with the dead. Today, we have modern devices to do so. Mat Owens, paranormal investigator and a co-founder of the Carolina Paranormal Society shared some of his tools with Carl. Mat has investigated Gold Hill about six times and reports that there are areas here that are haunted.
Tony Honeycutt, a paranormal investigator who works with Rowan Investigators of the Paranormal (RIP), has investigated the Girl by the Pond, one of the well known stories of Gold Hill. Elizabeth Boyle was the daughter of one of the managers of the gold mine. She fell in love with a miner named Aaron, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Many believed that another miner named Stan murdered Aaron out of envy and hid his body. Stan was found at the bottom of a mine shaft, having apparently been pushed. While no one knows the truth of what happened, Aaron's body was never found and Elizabeth never married. She was often seen wandering around the pond.
In recent years, people have reported seeing Elizabeth walking along the road near the pond.
The Powder House at Gold Hill is the site of many hauntings. Carl tells us that he had visited this spot several months ago. At that time he saw an orb and felt something brush against his neck. Many others have reported similar experiences.
He returns to the Powder House now with some gin, knowing that miners enjoyed drinking. Assisted by Vivian Hopkins, an author and historian, Carl sets the cup of gin on a rock next to a couple of LED flashlights with the lenses barely loosened. In short order, the flashlights turn on, supposedly by themselves!
A commonly told story tells of several miners who were transporting a box of dynamite down the Randolph Shaft. One of the minors took a pick axe and hit the box, causing the axe to impale his chest.
There might not be any gold left in this quaint little town. But it seems there are plenty of ghosts and a lot of fun stories remaining. Come see for yourself - if you're brave enough!

The Legend of Becky Cotton | Ghosts & Legends I
Becky Cotton was born around 1765 and married John Cotton around 1785. Becky's father was killed when three men burst into the house, but her husband did nothing to stop it.
The legend has it that she waited for him to fall asleep and buried an axe into his skull. She was tried but was so beautiful and bewitching that the jury acquitted her. She married one of the jurors, but then was killed by her brother on the courthouse steps. The story goes on...
