Sailing from Florida to Cuba, Scary Lightning Storm Ahead!
On this episode of WE| Sail...
We spend a couple weeks back in the states working on the boat in Fort Lauderdale. After all, we were in the heart of the boat capital. Marine stores on every corner, shopping, dinning, and air conditioning! It was a nice change to be back in the land of plentiful things, but we were anxiously awaiting our next passage and out of the concrete jungle.
While tied up on the dock, we repaired our downwind parasail that we ripped on our passage to Turks & Caicos, removed the old boat and name and finally made it our own! Provisioned and stocked up the boat for our next move south.
We had welcomed back my dad, Jacques and his friend Lenny for our sail down to Cuba. On this sail we experienced one of the most scariest moments yet while at sea. Half way on the crossing we sailed directly into a lightning storm. There was no direction we could turn and run from it so we had to punch right through it. Luckily, we made it our of the storm safely and finally made our destination to Marina Hemingway.
Join us on the adventure to Cuba and our scariest sail yet!
Enjoy and thank you for watching the Adventures of WE!

But this former Spanish colony, which became the 27th state to enter the Union, is much more than that. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other, it has mile upon mile of white sand beaches. Big Boat? It's All About Perspective In Florida
When we first bought 'Boogaboo IV', our Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge, we thought it was a pretty impressive vessel - especially when learning to drive it that first season! Well, our impressions on how 'big' we thought it was were put into perspective the first time we visited Fort Lauderdale, the winter after getting that boat.
Seems the more we looked around, the smaller our own boat seemed to be :-/ And now when we wander around this lovely city by the sea, our perceptions are only reinforced. What was once jaw dropping amazement at not on the size of these monstrous yachts, but the sheer number of them all around town.
Sure is a treat to see all this money on the water ;-)

Sailing a Catamaran from France to the US!
Contact me: mehksdouglas@gmail.com
Camera: Gopro 3
About me:
Hello, im Douglas Mehks im 22 years old.
I am a fish that feels home at sea! I am an Aquarius my birthday is the 24th of February. I've been sailing and motor boating my whole life since my family has a summer place in the archipelago. I have done an atlantic crossing from France to the US with 50 foot katamaran (Fountaine Pajot saba 50) we were 3 onboard doing 3 hour watches. I have also done plenty of trips in the Baltic Sea both single-handed and with crew with a 28-foot sailboat. I have also been sailing frequently in the Mediterranean around Sardinia and Corso on S/V Magdalus Secondo a 25-meter sail beauty from the famous Italian shipyard Cantieri Sangermani. I graduated from high school in Sweden studying the nature science with subjects such as math, physics, biology, and chemistry. I graduated with one-year delay since I was in US for an exchange year. I was in Pensacola Florida, the sunshine state :) and stayed there with my host parents and 2 other exchange students from Norway and Germany. We had a great time together. After my year in US I returned back to Sweden finishing my last year of high school. I graduated in July. Direct after my graduation I started working as a Harbor Captain at a harbor in the Swedish archipelago. A busy day we moored around 130 vessels from 30 to 65 ft. As the high season ended in late August early September I moved on and started to apply for different yachting jobs because I want to spend some years on the seas before I start my studies at the University. I got my first delivery job, a transatlantic crossing from La Rochelle in France to Ft Lauderdale in the US. When I came back home I started working as a boatdriver and guide, navigating around Stockholms archipelago with customers in high speed 50+ knots. I also drove around in Stockholms archipelago and delivered groceries to people living on islands. As I enjoy adventure I am also working on my private pilot license, flying is also a big passion I have. I’m easy going and are comfortable to work with everything onboard. I have good communication skills and im a team player. I have license in sport diving and holds the Open Water (PADI) Certificate. I hold pleasure craft operator, and skipper certification (Swedish version) deckofficer class VIII. Engine officer class VIII. Highspeed navigation certificate equal to RIB MASTER. I am looking for either a motor or a sailing boat with a size that lets me have lots of responsibilities and different job situations during a day. I would be very happy to be a part of a crew that has more experience that me so I can learn more. Boat Qualifications Fartygsbefäl VIII (Deck officer VIII) Maskinbefäl VIII (Engine officer VIII) Handhavande av snabba fartyg (RIB MASTER) Förarintyg (Boat driver certificate)

What to Do on a Cruise During a Hurricane!
Subscribe to the Eat Sleep Cruise YouTube Channel if you love to travel and cruise the world!
For the most part, the Princess and I choose to cruise during the winter. Although, as we have begun to travel more often, we have undoubtedly begun cruising during hurricane season as well.
In fact, we have cruised on several voyages during this time period. After surviving one cruise where we dodged both a hurricane and a tropical storm, we created these nine tips you need to know to survive a cruise during hurricane season.
If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP!
Hurricane season runs from May to November; although, for the Caribbean, hurricanes tend to be more frequent during the later part of the season, late August through early October. Knowing the dates will help you plan your cruise so you are not surprised.
Purchasing travel insurance is a must for any trip, but it is essential if you cruise during hurricane season. Having coverage will aid you if your ship changes course, or if you need to alter travel arrangements such as airfare, hotels, or car rentals.
Packing and planning accordingly are equally important when you cruise during hurricane season. Having a few additional items in your luggage, such as additional layers and lightweight rain gear, can help if your ship calls on different ports of call. These extra items also come in handy if you encounter bad weather during your trip.
Modern weather forecasting has come a long way, so don’t be surprised when a hurricane is in the region and your cruise ship still sails. Most likely, your ship will just alter course choosing a path that evades the upcoming storm.
You can visit our blog for a complete list of all our tips to survive a cruise during hurricane:
