Despite all my frustrations and mechanical issues, I did have plenty of fun too. I got to try Paragliding for the first time ever, and that was such a cool experience! A Big thanks to Michael Muldoon
( ) For an incredible experience paragliding !
I loved it so much, that I wanted to surprise Hanlie and take her too! I also got to do the table top mountain hike- which was 9 hours long and so intense- but SO BEAUTIFUL! And this was right in the heart of Cape town!
Originally, I planned to be in Cape town for only 1 week, and I ended up spending 6 weeks there! I managed to do a few trial trips around the area, but most of my time was spent in Cape town at the Reinecke Families home. The best part- Getting invited to all of the family functions and festivities. I really felt welcomed and like one of the family. It was really neat to see actually. Being Canadian and not having much for cultural traditions, it was beautiful to see the ways of the Afrikaans people. Braais ( BBQ's) are a huge thing for them there. Most priviledged families have built in stone Braai's in their home. And Meat is a big part of their diet. Big gatherings happened on a weekly basis and there was always an abundance of food ( mainly meat) a steady flow of wine and whiskey ( made locally) And there is ALWAYS live music and dancing! It was really great to hear Maruis talk about the history of his family. Where they came from, and how they did things in the older generations. It was nice to see these things still prevelent in their current lives. Most of the meat we ate was caught in the wild by themselves or friends. Family values are huge in the Afrikaans culture and it was so lovely to see the connection and bond between everyone. A huge massive thank you and tons of LOVE to my South African family, and all my beautiful new friends I will never forget and who made my time there so special and memorable.

I brought the bike back to Yamaha to have a thorough check through once again to make sure that nothing else was wrong. They fixed the suspected problem that caused my bike to fail- which they said was the broken earth wire. I brought the bike back to Martin the suspension guy to have the forks re chromed and my bike raised back up to the original height. It wasn't getting great ground clearance before when I had it lowered so I thought it was best to have it raised again, even though it was a bit too tall for me now.
I managed to get the bike papers extended which is great news that I no longer have to rush. Upon leaving Martins after picking the bike up, the bike died in traffic just two blocks away. I've seriously had it with this thing....

SAR 19B 1412 Transfer - Mosselbay to Swellendam - Day Three
On Friday, March 11, Ceres Rail Company (CRC) travelled to Voorbaai to collect their latest addition to the fleet.
The locomotive in question 19B Number 1412 has been under full-time restoration for the last six months by Mr. Bobbie Rudman and his team at Transnet's Voorbaai depot in Mosselbay. The work included, but is not limited to a full re-tube, renewal of the smokebox and new pistons. The boiler lagging along with the running boards were replaced as well as major structural work to the tender.
The work was immense and was perfectly-executed! The locomotive looks fantastic and the crew reported she steamed like a dream.
The trip itself took four days from start to finish. With the train staging mid-section in Swellendam on both Friday and Sunday night. Saturday night was spent in Voorbaai where 1412 was lit up and 3321 had some general maintenance done.
The trip was essentially a transfer but the company offered 80 fare paying passengers the opportunity to go along for what was surely a trip of a lifetime.
Congratulations to CRC for a job well-done.
Ceres Rail Company can be contacted at or via their Facebook account.
I would like to thank Shane Swartz for coming along and sharing the experience for the duration of the transfer. It was awesome shooting with and learning from such an experienced photographer. We certainly had some memorable moments while making lunch on the back of a bakkie, rallying on dirt roads and braaing in unsavoury locations ...
Also a special mention to Chris Brooks for assisting with filming between Vink Rivier and Worcester and of course my many friends at Friends of Atlantic Rail.

How to transfer international flights | Johannesburg airport, South Africa
Hi travellers,
Do you have an international connection coming soon? In this video I show how to transfer from one international flight to the next at O.R Tambo airport in Johannesburg.
Fortunately I had some hours as a layover, which means I'm not busting about when we landed. Depending on where your flight arrives there may be a bit of a walk.
After immigration checks and security you can make your way to the international departure terminal for a spot or shopping or relaxing in an airport lounge.
I love the Body shop store in the terminal. It is small, but the price, even when not on sale, is so much cheaper than at home. So I do tend to stock up. Also you can buy more than the 100ml allowance because it's duty free.

Pearl of Hout Bay | 20 Apartments | Developement South Africa | No transfer duty
For those looking for real estate investment in Cape Town's prestigious Hout Bay Area.
This development boasts a truly great location. Situated close to the beach, shops and restaurants. The development has already been built and has been successfully operating as holiday apartments, which have been let out to holiday makers.
It is made made up of:
* Single one-bedroom apartment (63m²)
* Single three-bedroom apartment (77m²)
* 18 two-bedroom apartments (sizes range between 91m² and 121m²)
Each apartment comes with its own secure basement parking bay.
Apart from the truly great location, another major benefit of investing in these apartments is the fact that the asking price includes VAT, so no transfer duty will be charged.
An secure building with spacious apartments with a lift servicing all floors. An investment for those looking for a holiday apartment -- it is in a prime location and therefore very easy to rent out at a good return.
All the apartments boast complete, top-end kitchens, which include dishwashers, utensils and appliances. To ensure added security, each apartment has been fitted with its own security alarm.
The complete building is divided down the middle by a central aisle -- the apartments on the west side do not have balconies, however, those units on the east side all have balconies; some of which are exceptionally deep and very usable. All kitchens come with granite counter tops and good quality cupboards. The bathrooms are nicely tiled, some with travertine, and they boast quality high-end finishes and sanitary ware.
As the units come fully furnished and equipped, they are ideal for holiday accommodation, and because of their spacious reception areas and bedrooms, they are also very accommodating for long-term living and renting.
These apartments are the ideal lock-up-and-go solution -- buyers only needs to move in their personal items to make these units feel like home, everything else is catered for, and in style.
