Weeping Rock Trail - Zion National Park, Utah
Weeping Rock Trail is Short but Steep trail! The trail is only about 0.2 mile but most people will need to stop to catch their breath along the way. The end of this short uphill path brings you to an overhang with ground water seeping out from a vertical wall. You will want to spend at least a few minutes to take it all in & get rested up!
Zion National Park | Weeping Rock | Easy Hiking Trail
Weeping Rock is a large bowl-shaped alcove where the lower layer of sandstone has eroded away; water that has been slowly descending within the sandstone formations reaches an impermeable layer of rock and is forced out the side causing the weeping. The weeping walls form a beautifully lush hanging garden with a little flowing stream below. While there are many weeping walls in Zion, this is the featured one with a paved trail and platformed viewing area constructed under the alcove back in the early days of the park. The stroll to Weeping Rock is a short 10-minute family-friendly stroll.

Zion National Park, Utah - Weeping Rock HD (2013)
Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature of the 229-square-mile (590 km2) park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles (24 km) long and up to half a mile (800 m) deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River. The lowest elevation is 3,666 ft (1,117 m) at Coalpits Wash and the highest elevation is 8,726 ft (2,660 m) at Horse Ranch Mountain. Located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert regions, the park's unique geography and variety of life zones allow for unusual plant and animal diversity. Numerous plant species as well as 289 species of birds, 75 mammals (including 19 species of bat), and 32 reptiles inhabit the park's four life zones: desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. Zion National Park includes mountains, canyons, buttes, mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons, and natural arches.
Human habitation of the area started about 8,000 years ago with small family groups of Native Americans; the semi-nomadic Basketmaker Anasazi (300 CE) stem from one of these groups. In turn, the Virgin Anasazi culture (500 CE) developed as the Basketmakers settled in permanent communities. A different group, the Parowan Fremont, lived in the area as well. Both groups moved away by 1300 and were replaced by the Parrusits and several other Southern Paiute subtribes. Mormons came into the area in 1858 and settled there in the early 1860s. In 1909, U.S. President William Howard Taft named the area a National Monument to protect the canyon, under the name of Mukuntuweap National Monument. In 1918, however, the acting director of the newly created National Park Service changed the park's name to Zion. According to historian Hal Rothman, The name change played to a prevalent bias of the time. Many believed that Spanish and Indian names would deter visitors who, if they could not pronounce the name of a place, might not bother to visit it. The new name, Zion, had greater appeal to an ethnocentric audience. The United States Congress established the monument as a National Park on November 19, 1919. The Kolob section was proclaimed a separate Zion National Monument in 1937, but was incorporated into the park in 1956.
The geology of the Zion and Kolob canyons area includes 9 formations that together represent 150 million years of mostly Mesozoic-aged sedimentation. At various periods in that time warm, shallow seas, streams, ponds and lakes, vast deserts, and dry near-shore environments covered the area. Uplift associated with the creation of the Colorado Plateaus lifted the region 10,000 feet (3,000 m) starting 13 million years ago.

Hiking ↑UP↑ Observation Point - Zion National Park
On this day (December 2017), I explored/hiked Observation Point at Zion National Park in the state of Utah. This challenging path is complete with breathtaking drop offs and eye popping scenery looking down into Zion Canyon. Hiking from the Weeping Rock trailhead to the Observation Point is a Zion classic and at the trails end, looking down into the canyon is a spectacular display of Zion National Park. While this hike isn't as exposed or fear-inducing as Angels Landing, with an elevation gain of over 2,100 feet (640 Meters), Observation Point is a more strenuous workout.

An extended video of my visit to the Zion National Park, Utah, United States.
I was really looking forward to seeing Zion NP and started filming miles short of the canyon itself. The Park set up is such that car parking is an issue so I parked several miles short of the entrance in Springdale to save the risk of hitting the Visitor Center and finding it full (in the summer no cars can enter the Scenic Drive which is the best part).
The Park provides a shuttle bus from Springdale and it worked out well for me so I can recommend it as an option (when I got to the Visitor Center the car park looked full but I didn't notice cars waiting).
The Park is simply stunning. I didn't have time to head much away from the main sites but there are quite a few hikes in the park and even walking a short distance away from one gives a whole new perspective on the park. The area around Zion Lodge is well worth a wander and the view from Weeping Rock is amazing (although time of day makes a big difference when you need the sun to be in the right spot to make the view extra special).
I ran out of time to drive the Zion-Mt Carmel highway so I plan to revisit and spend a bit more time exploring the park.
Hike to Angels Landing in Zion National Park, Utah
On March 31st 2014 I went for it and hiked to the summit of Angels Landing in Zion National Park. The views were amazing. It was a tough hike for me, I'm not an avid hiker or anything and it's fairly strenuous. I'm so glad I persevered and made it to the top. In this video you'll find clips of my hike and some of the still images I took along the way. We camped at the west entrance in a great RV park called Zion Canyon Campground. Was our second trip to Zion and we will definitely be back for a third. Awesome!

Weeping Rock - Zion National Park, Utah
2015.07.13, After a 11:00 am lunch Debbie Windsor and I took a Zion Shuttle ride to our mid-day destination. We hiked up to Weeping Rock figuring it would be cool for a sunny day. Do not drink the falling water as it will have algae and a host of other things in it.
Hiking Lower, Middle & Upper Emerald Pools Trail | Zion National Park
Discover the scenic trail with an amazing overview of the Lower, Middle, and Upper Emeralds Pool Trail in Zion National Park in Utah! SUBSCRIBE (it’s FREE) to our channel for more travel adventures. ???? More info in the description below.
The Emerald Pools Trailhead starts at Shuttle Stop #5 near the Zion Lodge. The trail is well-maintained and about 2 miles round trip to the Lower Emerald Pool and 2.75 miles round trip to the Upper Emerald Pool. Due to a rockfall in July 2018, the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools are not accessible via the Lower Emerald Pool Trail. However, on September 27, 2019, the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools have become accessible via the Kayenta Trail (Shuttle Stop #6).
We visited Zion National Park twice and when we hiked the Emerald Pools Trail in November 2017, we could hike to all three pools and when we came back to visit in January 2019, the trail was closed past the Lower Emerald Pool due to the July 2018 rockfall.

This video is the FULL HIKE at 2X speed from the trailhead to Scout Lookout.
*In my closing credits I accidentally labeled the hike Scouts Landing, however, it should be Scout Lookout.
Take a stroll through Zion Canyon in the heart of Zion National Park on a full hike from the trailhead to Scout Lookout. Scout Lookout is most famously known as the trail leading to the starting point for the famous Angel's Landing trail, however, the trail on its own offers spectacular views of the canyon below as you gain over 1000 feet in elevation, journey through a breathtaking canyon, and ascend the dizzying Walter's Wiggles (a long chain of tight switchbacks) to the summit which offers fantastic views of the canyon below, the Virgin River, as well as a great perspective of Angel's Landing. The trail is wide and paved. If you decide that the narrow trails, 1000 foot drops, and scrambling up the rocks of Angel's Landing isn't for you, you've still had an amazing hike up to Scout Lookout.
If you'd like to see my video of Angel's Landing I'll include a link here in a few days once its uploaded.
