Places to see in ( Savannah - USA )
Places to see in ( Savannah - USA )
Savannah, a coastal Georgia city, is separated from South Carolina by the Savannah River. It’s known for manicured parks, horse-drawn carriages and antebellum architecture. Its historic district is filled with cobblestoned squares and parks such as Forsyth Park shaded by oak trees covered with Spanish moss. At the center of this picturesque district is the landmark, Gothic-Revival Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.
Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestone streets, parks, and notable historic buildings: the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA), the Georgia Historical Society (the oldest continually operating historical society in the South), the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences (one of the South's first public museums), the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest African-American Baptist congregations in the United States), Temple Mickve Israel (the third oldest synagogue in America), and the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex (the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in America).
Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District, and 22 parklike squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States (designated by the U.S. government in 1966). Downtown Savannah largely retains the original town plan prescribed by founder James Oglethorpe (a design now known as the Oglethorpe Plan). Savannah was the host city for the sailing competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta.
Savannah is known as the 'Hostess City of the South' – and a good hostess will stuff you to the gills with all things battered and fried before sending you on your merry way. This is a city where people come to indulge in decadent, traditional Southern and soul food, but top chefs are also reimagining things with a 'New South' cuisine, where classic themes and ingredients meet innovative preparations. With Savannah's proximity to the ocean, seafood features heavily on most menus, and good grub doesn't stop at Southern staples – fans of diverse international fare can find great options, too.
Dubbed the Creative Coast (with a local entrepreneurial organization of the same name), Savannah boasts a vibrant arts and design scene that's fueled not only by the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), one of the finest art schools in the country with students and faculty from far and wide; but also bolstered by the natives and transplants whose initiatives make the arts more inclusive and accessible. From superb museums and galleries in the Historic District to the Starland section between Midtown and the Victorian District catering to locally crafted pursuits, creativity is the lifeblood coursing through Savannah's artsy heart.

Travel by Design: Savannah, Georgia
Welcome to my very first travel video! A little bit of a departure from my usual videos but every time I travel, I experience it from an interior designer's perspective. So I thought by sharing my experiences from my travels, you'll get more of a design focused view of amazing cities around the world.
So if you're into design, interior design and architecture... you'll see all of that in my videos. And more!
I'm not a video blogger... and not sure I'll ever be comfortable walking and talking to a camera, so this is the best way I can share my love of travel with you. Who knows? Maybe that will change some day.
In the meantime... SAVANNAH, GEORGIA!!!!
What a charming and eccentric place! I loved every second of it and wish I could have spent more time there! As part of a road trip from Toronto to New Orleans, I had one night in Savannah. Home to one of the US's largest National Historic Landmark Districts, the downtown core includes the beautiful Savannah Historic District.
And I headed straight to Jones Street... arguably one of the most beautiful residential streets in the USA.
I've focused on all the beautiful architectural details so take a look and let me know if you've ever been to Savannah. And if you like the video and want to see more of my travels... hit the like button!
I, for one, can't wait to go back with a little more time in my schedule.
Thank you Savannah!!! You inspired this interior designer!

Savannah is my favorite place to visit in Georgia. The town is filled with great people, great food and great history. It would have been easier to make a list about reasons to move to Savannah but sadly people don't watch positive videos. I probably will anyway in the near future. This city deserves it.

Artist builds his Savannah studio with shipping containers
Architect, artist, designer Julio Garcia had been designing plans for shipping container homes for a decade before he found the perfect place to build one: on a long, narrow stretch of his property in Savannah, Georgia. “I’m a big believer we should be adapting to the environment… I remember walking out and looking at the yard and thinking oh my god the land is calling for this linear design.”
He picked up two 40 foot shipping containers from the Port of Savannah and, thanks to much advance planning, he was able to install them without removing one tree from his property. He offset the two boxes, cut out the interior container walls and added I-beams, a shed roof and clerestory windows in the center to provide plenty of daylighting.
“There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re inside a container so in the design we had to address that. I’ve been in a couple of projects and they don’t function very well and you’re like, ‘Oh, I still feel like I’m in a metal box’.”
Garcia believes containers can make for affordable homes: “you could put up a structure like this for about 50K”, but much of the interior was salvaged from other job sites (i.e. the drywall and the kitchen). His Price Street Projects creates plans that are “almost do-it-yourself plans” for shipping container homes and he has installed commercial container spaces, but he’s a big believer that the site should determine the design.

The Savannah Project | Shipping Container Home by Artist Julio Garcia in Savannah, Georgia
The Savannah Project | Shipping Container Home by Artist Julio Garcia in Savannah, Georgia.
In this video we bring to you a sustainable shipping container home and studio built using 2 shipping containers, in the port City of Savannah, in Georgia. The Savanna Project is a small, budget-conscious home/studio built by designer artist Julio Garcia and his wife in the city of Savannah in Georgia. Built from two 40-foot shipping containers and elements of wood, steel and concrete, the Savannah Project-is about 800 square feet. The two 40′ shipping containers were placed parallel to each other with a 6 feet gap in between and sheered horizontally. The containers sit on a foundation system of steel I-beams resting on concrete piers. The 6′ gap was filled with full height timber framed glazing, a wood-framed floor and shed roof. The container sidewalls were cut away to create a large open living area killing any notion of an interior space in a shipping container. Two I-beams span the living room to replace the structural support that was lost with the interior wall cutouts, to hold up a shed roof and clerestory windows in the center to provide plenty of daylighting. Garcia left the exteriors of the two containers in their original battered state with its original blue color and markings as a reminder of their industrial past. Contrasting with the exterior, the interiors have a contemporary and modern look finished in three colors: white for ceilings and walls; black for flooring and wood for the framework.
