Asheville is an outdoor adventure lover’s paradise! With parts of the Appalachian trail running right by the city, the hiking in Pisgah National Forest is among the best in the country.
Couple that with the French Broad River, hundreds of waterfalls, and numerous other state parks nearby, it’s no wonder people come to Asheville for outdoor thrills.
From the dozens of breweries to the burgeoning food scene to the progressive art to the bohemian culture to the outdoor adventures, there is a lot to like about Asheville!

Beer City USA with kids - Asheville, NC
We decided to slow it down a little bit in Asheville and try to pretend we lived there. It was nice to relax and reset. Our days mostly revolved around food, because Asheville has an AMAZING restaurant scene. Every single meal we had was so, so good.
All the downtown buildings in Asheville are Art Deco style, which is my favorite architectural style. It's a beautiful little city.
I tried on mom jeans in multiple stores, settling on the ones at Target, where they have triple shopping carts. Perfect for us!
Asheville is hip and artsy, and it has more breweries per capita than any other city in America. That's why they call it beer city!
We tried to go to the pinball museum, but it was closed, so instead we wandered through the community gardens. We drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway and went on a hike at the tree identification trail. Then we went to the North Carolina Arboretum.
We went to the New Belgium Brewing Company, east coast headquarters. What a beautiful and relaxing place to spend an afternoon! Totally family friendly . . . and they were playing 90's hip hop, so I was in heaven.
Last but not least we discovered Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company, which the girls loved because it was full of old arcade games.
Asheville is a gem. I kinda want to stay!

Dozens of Photos of Asheville in the 1900s D
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- A glimpse of Asheville's past has come to light in a new display at Pack Memorial Library.
Our partners at Carolina Public Press found the turn-of-the-century photos of Asheville that were discovered at a New York yard sale.
The stunning pictures of Asheville's past are now exactly where they belong -- in a display case.
Beyond the pink polka dots, the book is a more than century-old look at the city in black and white.
Zoe Rhine is the North Carolina collection librarian.
I mean the town looks very active, Rhine said. There's people in trolleys and horse drawn wagons. And a lot are taken from a street view.
The 34 photos take us back to 1904. The photographer captured Asheville's familiar locales, like city hall. There are also landmarks many historians have never seen.
There was also a photograph of an African-American school called Hill School that we did not have any images of, Rhine said. It burned shortly after this photo was taken.
Several children were killed in that fire. Rhine says the pictures take you on a journey.
Just page after page after page I went 'Wow! Wow! Wow!' I didn't want it to end
