Vlog #15: BLVD
We were able to get on the very very long list for Kansas City's Boulevard Brewery's Tasting and Tour. We got to see the inner workings of the brewery and got to enjoy some free samples of their delicious beer. It felt like being in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, except we got wasted. Not chocolate wasted, just straight up wasted. HAHA

Cottages for Rent
Our cottages are in the heart of the Ozarks on a 550 acre, 3rd generation farm now operating as Edg-Clif Winery and Brewery. The rolling hills and steep stone bluffs make this a very romantic and rustic setting as well as a perfect get-away from the hustle and bustle. Each of the affordable cottages are original farm houses that are over 100 years old located on Edg-Clif Farms. Each have the amenities and safety features along with BBQ grills and outdoor seating so guests can enjoy the magic and beauty. You’ll love the coziness, the privacy, the views and beautiful setting which is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and families with kids.
LOCATION & ACTIVITIES
We are six miles from Potosi, MO and just 1½ hours from St Louis. The YMCA's Trout Lodge and Sunnen Lake are only three miles from Edg-Clif. On the property we have over three miles of the Fourche a Renault natural spring river, 3000 x 80 foot long cliff, 7.5 acres of Vineyards, 8 barns, an outdoor pavilion, a tasting room, winery and brewery. Wake up with a morning hike to discover wildflowers and don't forget to bring your picnic basket of goodies to the Pavilion and have lunch amidst gardens and hummingbirds. In the afternoon tour the Winery and Brewery and enjoy an educational and delicious wine or beer tasting. Spend the evening counting stars and roasting marshmallows around the fire-pit.
Nearby activities include floating the Huzzah River, 30 minutes drive, visit Elephant Rocks State Park, 45 minutes drive or hike the Berryman Trail and float the Courtois, Meramac and Big Rivers.

THE VINEYARD COTTAGE
The Vineyard Cottage looks directly at the vineyards and winery. It is a charming white clapboard two bedroom and one bath house with a front porch, fire-pit and large living room with all knotty pine paneling. It has a queen and full bed and a queen pull-out couch which can accommodate up to six.
Our second time staying here. It is gorgeous, relaxing, enchanting, and contains everything you need to cook or BBQ and be self sufficient in the countryside. The walks are amazing, and the house is charming and spacious. Kim, CA
THE CLOVER COTTAGE
The Clover Cottage is a perfect family vacation rental and sits high on the hill across the Fourche a Renault River, with spectacular views from its large screened in porch. This historic white farmhouse has a large renovated kitchen with all the amenities, large dining room and living room, three bedrooms and two full bathrooms and accommodates 6. The large loft suite includes a king size bed with private bath on the second floor and two bedrooms with a queen and twin beds, a tub/shower bathroom on the first floor. Recommended for guests with an SUV vehicle.
While being on a winery is probably the biggest selling point for this bnb, I found how secluded and private the house was to be the real attraction. Richard, MO

Springfield St Louis Trip Sept 2018
Route 66 in Illinois
The Gemini Giant in Wilmington, IL represents a popular type of roadside advertising from the 1960s known as a “muffler man.” This 30 foot fiberglass statue promotes the Launching Pad restaurant.
Ambler’s Texaco Gas Station in Dwight, IL is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1933 and run by Basil Tubby Ambler for almost 30 years. It closed in 2002 and now serves as the town's Visitor Center.
The Lauterbatch Muffler Man in Springfield, IL was erected in 1962, serving as advertising for a local tire business. It originally held a tire but now holds an American flag.
The Maid Rite Sandwich Shop in Springfield, IL is also on the National Register of Historic Places, famous for their loose-meat (ground beef) sandwiches. The restaurant is built from an old railroad caboose, and the company vehicle is certainly eye-catching.

Lincoln’s Tomb is the final resting place for the president, his wife, and all but one of his children. In front of the tomb is a bronze reproduction of Gutzon Borglum’s marble head of Lincoln (it’s tradition to rub the nose for good luck).
Lincoln Home National Historic Site offers wonderful tours conducted by Park Rangers. Lincoln and his wife lived in the 12-room Greek Revival-style house from 1844 to1861. It is the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned. Much of the surrounding the neighborhood has been restored to it’s 1860’s appearance.
Great Western Depot is the train station from which Lincoln left for Washington in 1861.
Union Station was built after Lincoln’s time but the grounds include several statues of Lincoln.
The Old State Capitol is where Lincoln served in the Illinois Legislature and gave his famous “House Divided” speech in 1858. Lincoln also served as a lawyer, pleading cases in front of the Supreme Court which also was located in the court house. Before Lincoln was buried, his body lay in state in Representatives Hall.
Lincoln’s Law Offices were located just across the street from the Old State Capitol.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum has exhibits ranging from a full-scale replica the log cabin in which Lincoln grew up to a recreation of Ford's Theater, detailing the iconic moments of the President's life.
The new State Capitol was completed in 1888, so well after Lincoln’s time, but it is a beautiful structure with its own rich history.
Saint Louis, MO
Annheuser Busch offers a so-called “Beer Master Tour” with access to many different parts of the vast complex and beer tastings at several points during the brewing process.
The St Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum has many exhibits documenting the team’s rich history and many star athletes. They let me pose with one of Stan Musial’s actual game-used bats. The museum also has artifacts from the city’s other major league team, the Saint Louis Brown’s, whose manager, Bill Veeck, was notorious for stunts such as sending a midget (Eddie Gaedel) up to the plate whose strike zone was so small that he walked on 4 pitches. There was also an exhibit on the World Tour of Baseball when stars from different teams held exhibition games all around the world in the early 1900’s.
Next door to the museum is Busch Stadium where I went to a game between the Cardinals and the Dodgers. Long time Cardinal David Freese had recently been traded to the Dodgers, and the fans gave him a touching ovation. Clayton Kershaw was pitching for the Dodgers.
The Old Court House is where Dred Scott sued for and won his freedom before the decision was overruled by the Supreme Court, hastening the start of the Civil War.
The Old Cathedral Basilica Of Saint Louis, finished in 1834, is the fourth church built on a site dedicated in 1764. It stands right beside the gateway Arch which can be seen through its windows.
I took the ride up to the top of Gateway Arch which stands beside the Mississippi River.
My visit to Saint Louis ended with a visit to the New Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis. Built between 1907 - 1914, the Cathedral is known for its beautiful mosaics which took nearly 80 years to create using more than 41 million pieces of glass.

60 Second Beer Review - Schlafly AIPA
Http://LouisvilleBeer.com
Schlafly A IPA
Hi, this is John Wurth with LouisvilleBeer.com. Today I'm reviewing Schlafly's Special Release AIPA, a 7.2% American IPA. Using Amarillo, Simco and Centennial Hops from the Pacific Northwest. This beer is available only during Spring and Summer.
Nice label artwork. I love the green and the big ol' hop.
Pours a hazy pale amber with an off-white head that dissipated fairly quickly. Beautiful lacing while you drink. I wanna make a doily outta this pattern.
Huge grapefruit and lemoney aroma.
Fruity up front, then you taste a some biscuity malt. (I love the word Biscuity!) I'm also sensing a bit of pine and tropical fruits here and there. Good dry bitter finish.
It has a medium body with a good sparkle from the carbonation.
Overall, this is probably the best Schlafly beer I've had. It's one I'll definitely add to my arsenal of great IPA's.
I'll give this a 8.37/10.
Thanks for watching...my 60 seconds is up.
Reaction to takeover of Anheuser-Busch by Belgian company
SHOTLIST
1. Wide shot Budweiser sign at Anheuser-Busch Inc. headquarters
2. Medium shot Budweiser sign
3. Close-up Budweiser sign
4. Various of sign reading: Budweiser, the Great American Lager
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Tim Miller, St. Louis resident:
I think it's a happy day in Belgium, it's a sad day for St. Louis. If you're asking my opinion of the situation, I think it's going to be bad for the local economy, a lot of jobs are going to be lost.
6. Wide shot Anheuser-Busch Inc. headquarters
7. Medium shot Anheuser-Busch Inc. headquarters
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Bryan Simpson, St. Louis resident:
I think a lot of people will boycott it initially but eventually you know it's a hometown brew and a lot of people are used to drinking it so I think that after the initial shock wears out, people will go drinking it, so I don't think it's going to hurt the beer market in St. Louis that much.
(Reporter: What do you think about the economy in St. Louis?)
Well, it sucks...
9. Tilt-down from Budweiser sign to Anheuser-Busch entrance
10. Medium shot Anheuser-Busch building
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Stacy Walters, St. Louis resident:
It's a family favourite and ever since I've been of legal age, it's been my beer of choice, but it's kind of hard to support now.
12. Wide shot sign that reads: Home of Budweiser
STORYLINE:
Residents in Saint Louis, Missouri reacted negatively on Monday to news that one of their favourite local companies Anheuser-Bush, the maker of Budweiser and Bud Light beers, had agreed to a sweetened 52 billion takeover bid from Belgian-based InBev.
Inbev brands include Stella Artois, Beck's and Bass.
The combined company will be called Anheuser-Busch InBev.
As of the end of last week, InBev said it would be the world's third largest consumer products company by market capitalisation after Procter & Gamble of the United States and Nestle SA of Switzerland.
The Anheuser-Busch board accepted the higher takeover offer Sunday night from InBev, according to a joint press release.
In St. Louis, one resident said he thought the takeover would be bad for the local economy and that a lot of jobs are going to be lost.
I think it's a happy day in Belgium, it's a sad day in St. Louis, Tim Miller told AP Television.
Bryan Simpson, another resident, thinks while locals may initially boycott the product, they will eventually continue to drink the beer.
It's a hometown brew and a lot of people are used to drinking it so I think that after the initial shock wears out, people will go drinking it, said Simpson.
One resident, however, said it would be difficult for her to continue to drink Anheuser products.
It's a family favourite and ever since I've been of legal age, it's been my beer of choice, but it's kind of hard to support now, Stacy Walters said.
For InBev, the deal gives an aggressive company an iconic beer brand, Budweiser,to sell into emerging markets such as China and Brazil where it has already established a wide network.
InBev is the world's second-largest beer-maker, narrowly behind SABMiller. Swallowing Anheuser-Busch sees it leap ahead, capturing half of the US beer market and a fifth of China and Russia.
