Surprise at Peak of Cape Blow Me Down Trail! Newfoundland (164)
The Cape Blow Me Down Trail was by far one of our top 5 hikes EVER!
It's tough, and at the end, you'll cry....tears of joy. It's a challenging hike (3.8 km each way) and you'll break a sweat going up, then freeze in the wind at the peak. Definitely dress in layers and bring water and snacks.
Ok to hike with your dog here. Keep them on a leash near the top to protect the bird colony at the peak. I was warned but didn't actually see the birds. They are pretty well hidden.
Challenge: Will you find the Geocache? Hint: it can be seen in the video posted above. The Geocache was an extra added bonus!
TABLELANDS!! What's not to love about that epic Mantle Rock Mountain. This can only be seen above the earth's crust in a few places in the world and here is one of them.

Spring, Back Country Snowmobile Ride to Blow Me Down Mountains, Newfoundland (Peter Bull)
On the first day of spring, Ronan, Cormac and I joined some friends on a snowmobile ride behind Frenchman's Cove, Bay of Islands. The ride took us up and over the Blow Me Down Mountains. The scenery was second to none. After taking in some spectacular views, we had a boilup in the shelter of a valley. All in all it was a perfect day of sledding.
On our snowmobile ride we left Frenchman's cove and headed up Blow Me Down Mountain via Charlie's Bottom, we then proceeded across the top around Blow Me Down Brook Gorge to Man Dog Woods and to a small camp. After leaving the camp we headed to the northern face of Blow Me Down just west of Frenchman's Cove bowl. We then cut across Rattling Brook to the south of Clifty Pond woods and to the Cape of Blow Me Down overlooking the outer Bay of Islands and the Candlelite Bay Hotel. When we left the Cape we headed over to the top of Copper Mine Brook trail. We left the northern face of Blow Me Down and headed south crossing the Plains, along the foot of Round Hill (highest peak on BMD) and the Hay Stacks before reaching Riley's Bowl and the beginning of Never Fail, where we had the boil-up. After eating we went back up towards the Hay Stacks and headed in an easterly direction by passing Simms Gorge back to the top of Charlie's Bottom and then descended down and back to our home.

What’s in a Name? – Blow Me Down
Around here, there are hundreds of places and thousands of stories. Over the years, there have been at least 17 communities that share the rather peculiar name of Blow Me Down. This particular Blow Me Down is a provincial park located on the island’s west coast. Here’s Kris with a gusty tale of his own about the mountain and it’s rather powerful and unmistakable namesake.

COPPER MINE TO CAPE BLOW-ME-DOWN HIKE
A challenging hike that will take several hours. The trail is well used and easy to follow. It contains a number of scenic lookouts over the beautiful Bay of Islands in Western Newfoundland. Be prepared for some steep climbing.

Henry LOVED throwing rocks into the Bay of Islands at the Blow Me Down Provincial Park. It was a windy day. Henry is almost 19 months old.
Coppermine DH
Probably one of the steepest DH trails in Western NL. The Coppermine trail begins at nearly sea level near York Harbour, NL, with an hour and a half hike-a-bike, and climbs 650m to the summit of Cape Blow Me Down. The descent lasts about 15 minutes and covers some pretty rocky and gnarly shoots. Sorry for the poor camera angle, it's much steeper than it looks. And sorry for the double ending, lol.
Avalanche Awareness Day in Corner Brook, Newfoundland in 2012
On January 21, 2012 Avalanche Awareness Day was held in Corner Brook at both Marble Mountain and the Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club. Many people came signed up for an avalanche awareness course and picked up information about avalanches in Western Newfoundland. Also on January 25 in the evening a basic information on avalanches was held at Grenfell Campus. Thanks to the Canadian Avalanche Foundation for funding avalanche awareness in Newfoundland. Backcountry Access supplied beacons, probes and shovels and CIBC also helped sponsor these events.
