New York - Brooklyn (Part.2)
Brooklyn has played a major role in various aspects of American culture including literature, cinema and theater. It has the world-renowned Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the second largest public art collection in the United States, housed in the Brooklyn Museum.
Two films of Spike Lee, She's Gotta Have It and Do The Right Thing were shot in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Museum, opened in 1897, is the nation's second-largest public art museum. It has in its permanent collection more than 1.5 million objects, from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art. The Brooklyn Children's Museum, the world's first museum dedicated to children, opened in December 1899. The only such New York State institution accredited by the American Association of Museums, it is one of the few globally to have a permanent collection -- over 30,000 cultural objects and natural history specimens.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) includes a 2,109-seat opera house, a 874-seat theater, and the art house BAM Rose Cinemas. Bargemusic and St. Ann's Warehouse are located on the other side of Downtown Brooklyn in the DUMBO arts district. Brooklyn Technical High School has the second-largest auditorium in New York City (after Radio City Music Hall), with a seating capacity of over 3,000.

New York - Brooklyn (Part.1)
Brooklyn is the most populous of New York City's five boroughs, with approximately 2.5 million residents, and the second-largest in area. Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, which is now the most populous county in New York State and the second-most densely populated county in the United States, after New York County (Manhattan). It is also the westernmost county on Long Island.
Brooklyn was an independent city until it was annexed by New York City in 1898. It continues to maintain a distinct culture. Many Brooklyn neighborhoods are ethnic enclaves where particular ethnic groups and cultures predominate. Brooklyn's official motto is Eendraght Maeckt Maght. Written in the (early modern spelling of the) Dutch language, it is inspired by the motto of the United Dutch Provinces and translated Unity makes strength. The motto is displayed on the borough seal and flag, which also feature a young robed woman bearing fasces, a traditional emblem of republicanism. Brooklyn's official colors are blue and gold.
---------------------------------------------------------

NEW DATE AND INTERNATIONAL ACCLAIM REGGAE SUPERSTARS - BERES HAMMOND AND SHAGGY ADDED TO SOUNDS OF REGGAE CONCERT
Producer of the upcoming Sounds of Reggae Concert have changed the event date to Wednesday, December 12, 2012. The new date will be etched in music history at the brand new Barclays Center. The fifteen thousand (15,000) capacity home of the Brooklyn Nets, will host its debut Reggae event The Sounds of Reggae Concert. This concert will be particularly meaningful as Jamaica, West Indies celebrates its 50th year of independence.
Presented by Jammins Entertainment, a dominant forerunner in marketing and managing of Reggae music; Sounds of Reggae will feature internationally recognized reggae superstars ALI CAMPBELL's UB40, the crowd pleaser MAXI PRIEST along with the new additions to the line up - storyteller BERES HAMMOND and Mr. Lover man SHAGGY all in one amazing concert. More artist to be added as the concert draws closer. Doors open at 6:00P with show time at 7:30P.
Beres Hammond, reggae connoisseurs sign at the mention of his name; he is the consummate storyteller. There is something for every listener; ladies are made to feel regal with Angel Eyes; men relate to Double Trouble and his entire audience gets a boost from I Feel Good. His appeal is across the board and his fans always clamor for more. Mr. Hammond has performed to sold-out audiences at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, back-to-back concerts at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and several times at the Manhattan Center including his most recent concert on August 11, 2011.
With a commanding presence, a distinctive voice that is recognizable throughout the world and titles such as artist, businessman, philanthropist and Grammy Award winner, Shaggy is and has been a forced to be reckoned with. A son of the brambly streets of Kingston, Jamaica, his discipline-which he credits to his military background-has been the foundation of his success. In 1993, Shaggy exploded on the music scene with his debut album Pure Pleasure. His remix of the Ska classic Oh Carolina from that album was an instant hit in England and other countries. Shaggy followed up with his sophomore album Boombastic in 1995. Boombastic went certified platinum, won a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Reggae Album and topped an impressive chart list that included the Top 40 Rhythmic charts, Hot 100, Billboard 200, among others.
Originated in Bingham England (1978), UB40 worked hard and achieved considerable international recognition. Led by lead singer Ali Campbell and band- mate Brian Travers, the group was influenced by their love for the many diverse sounds of reggae; Ska and early Lovers Rock music. They became a commercial success with several hits making the charts (US & UK Billboard Hot 100) including chart toppers -- Red Red Wine, Can't help Falling in Love and their version of I Got You Babe. To date UB40 has sold over 70 million records and continue to perform to sold-out concert houses.
Maxi Priest is one of only two British reggae acts to have an American Billboard number one song: Close to You in 1990. His duet with Grammy Winner Shaggy in 1996, That Girl, was also a hit in the United States, peaking at number twenty. He has also worked alongside reggae legends Sly & Robbie, Beres Hammond and most notably in the reggae community his monster collaboration with another Grammy-Award winner for Reggae, Shabba Ranks on their hit single, House Call (Body Can't Lie to Me). In 1991 His Reggae Fusion was very successful and his songs not only went to the top of the chart - American Billboard but he also became a Grammy winning recording artist. His success led to performances with the legendary Roberta Flack, singing Set the Night to Music sealing his place not only in Reggae but in music history.
This is going to be the most featured reggae event to hit the Tri-state market this year. As Ali Campbell, the legendary voice of UB40 states, I can't wait to be back in the U.S., performing December 12th at the brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. I'm truly humbled to be a part of the first Reggae Concert at this venue. Can't wait to see you all there!
Tickets for the concert are ON-SALE NOW. To purchase tickets log onto ticketmaster.com or call (800) 745-3000. For further information call 718.282.8041 and stay tuned for concert updates.

Places Mentioned:
⇢Brooklyn Heights Promenade
Our first stop: The Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
This is one of my favorite spots to go when I want to chillax.
The promenade has the most amazing view of the east river looking over the Manhattan Skyline & infamous Brooklyn Bridge. It’s surrounded by pricey brownstones and mansions as well.
If you look down yonder, you can catch a glimpse of lady liberty doing her thang.
This spot is perfect for date nights, jogging, photography and much more.
⇢Brooklyn Borough Hall
Brooklyn Borough Hall is located in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn and it’s where the Brooklyn Borough President lives! J/k he doesn’t live there lol.
It’s been a NYC landmark since 1966 and hosts town hall meetings and cultural events such as the Haitian Flag Day Celebration, Jamaican Independence day and so much more.
When the weather is much nicer, people sit on the steps and have lunch while watching passers by and from time to time, there have summer concerts right on the steps but it was real cold this day and aint no body got time fo' dat!
⇢Brooklyn Academy of Music
The Brooklyn Academy of music aka BAM is one of my favorite places to go!
Not only is the facade breathe-taking, but the interior is also. This building is over 150 years old and it’s home to a really cool movie theater playing main stream and independent films/documentaries. It also has a performing art center showcasing theater, dance & opera.
Ever so often on weekends, they have free musical performances in the BAM cafe situated upstairs and its great for ppl who are trying to save coins.
Every year around Memorial Day weekend, BAM is at the center of the annual Dance Africa Event in which all aspects of the African Diaspora is celebrated.

One Brooklyn-- Pride Week Celebration and Flag Raising Ceremony
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams kicked off Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month by presenting awards to trailblazers in the LGBTQ+ community who have advanced the mission of equality and fairness for all.
The honorees at his annual LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration included Immigration Equality, a leading immigrant rights organization in the United States that has helped LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive immigrants seek refuge and a new life in Brooklyn and across the country; Park Slope-based New York Times columnist Charles Blow, whose cutting-edge column on current affairs appears on Mondays and Thursdays; Council Speaker Corey Johnson, who became the first HIV-positive person to lead the New York City Council when he was chosen by his peers to serve in January 2018, and activist Abby Stein, who was born and raised in a Hasidic family of rabbinic descent in Williamsburg and came out as a transgender woman in 2015.
Borough President Adams was joined by Council Member Carlos Menchaca and Brooklyn Pride in speaking on the importance of continuing the fight for LGBTQ+ equality, particularly regarding the passage of the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) in the New York State Legislature, which proposes to add gender identity and expression as a protected class in the State’s human rights and hate crimes statues; since 2008, GENDA has passed the Assembly ten times, but has yet to come up for a vote in the State Senate. Following the presentation of awards, a reception followed featuring musical entertainment with a live DJ and refreshments.

Mayor de Blasio Announces NYC Municipal ID to Give Access to 33 City Cultural Institutions
Announces NYC Municipal ID to Give Access to 1-Year Free Memberships at 33 of the City's Most Acclaimed Cultural Institutions
See full list of CIG benefits here:
With the Municipal ID card, thousands of residents will be able to receive free benefits at members of the Cultural Institutions Group throughout 2015
Today, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the City’s Municipal ID, which will launch in January 2015, will give all ID card holders access to one-year free membership packages at 33 of the City’s leading cultural institutions, including world class museums, performing arts centers, concert halls, botanical gardens, and zoos in all five boroughs. The Municipal ID/CIG one-year membership will be comparable to each institution’s standard one-year individual or family membership package, depending on the institution, and will give ID card holders a range of benefits including free admission, and access to special events, and discounts to museum shops.
The 33 institutions belong to the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) which is comprised of private nonprofit cultural organizations located on City owned property. The first member of the CIG, the American Museum of Natural History, was created in 1869 and the group has grown to include a diverse cross section of institutions in each of the boroughs. The City provides capital, operating and energy support to CIG members and in turn each institution is charged with providing access to cultural services and programming to all New Yorkers.
The offer will be available to all Municipal ID holders from the day the program is launched in January 2015 through December 31, 2015. The membership term will be for one-year from the date the individual signs up with a participating cultural institution. The framework for the CIG membership deal came together with the support of City Council after Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tom Finkelpearl was appointed earlier this year. As a former director of a CIG institution, Commissioner Finkelpearl was able work closely with CIG chair Arnold Lehman and the organizations’ leadership in finding a creative and compelling strategy for CIG member institutions to open their doors even further to all New Yorkers. The package of benefits the CIG has developed demonstrates the central role these institutions play in New York’s civic life.
The 33 participating institutions are listed below by borough:

2. Bronx Museum of the Arts
