Camden Fort Meagher - Gorilla Explores
I took a spin out to Fort Camden in Crosshaven, Cork, Ireland, Earth. It's being restored by volunteers, and is run by volunteers and quite frankly they're putting OPW to shame in certain aspects. It's so well put together and makes a really nice trip up for the views alone. The history of the Fort is really cool and displayed excellently throughout and the Volunteer staff are super friendly!
They even minded my motorbike Helmet for me while I was strolling about.
A well worthwhile explore. Look up opening days on the website below as they're not open all year round. Dutch Royals were visiting just after I left also, so.....it's worthy of royalty!

The tight and winding roads from Cork City to Crosshaven are all part of the adventure - so we discovered on our journey to explore Fort Camden. Since we don't have a car, the walk to the fort turned out to be an adventure in itself, but it was really worth it!
Fort Camden is a beautiful hidden gem situated at the top of a hill at the mouth of Cork Harbour. It's also full of history and has beautiful panoramic views.
A must see in Cork!

Camden Fort Meagher 1887-1905
. Camden Fort at Cork held one of the secret Brennan torpedo stations between 1887 and 1905 and was one of only 2 stations to have 2 launch ramps, such was the importance of the harbour at Cork. This animation shows the installation, based on original drawings, and was produced in collaboration with Norma O'Connor for her MA in Digital Arts 2018. You can support my animations here:

Camden Fort Meagher is a coastal defence fortification close to Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland.Together with similar structures at Fort Mitchell , Fort Davis , and Templebreedy Battery , the fort was built to defend the mouth of Cork Harbour.Though originally constructed in the 16th century, the current structures of the 45 acre fort date to the 1860s.Originally named Fort Camden and operated by the British Armed Forces, the fort was handed-over to the Irish Defence Forces in 1938.

This is a working model of the Brennan Torpedo Installation situated @ Fort Camden, Cork Harbour, Ireland. Louis Brennan an Irishman and Australian immigrant at 22 years of age was to lay claim to the world's first guided, steerable torpedo utilising a shore based twin winding geared engine.
This top secret system of defence was in use in Fort Camden from 1893 to 1907. It is 1 of only 8 elite Stations worldwide housing the Top Secret Brennan Torpedo Installation.
The animation was created from a 3D scan, a VR Walkthrough of the Brennan Torpedo Station, original technical drawings, maps, extensive photographs and HD video recordings.
Created as part of an MA in Digital Arts & Humanities - Norma O'Connor UCC - on Camden Fort Meagher, Crosshaven, Co. Cork with kind permission from Cork County Council and Rob Brassington the online skilful animator who I collaborated with to bring this educational retrospective to life.
A huge thank you to all of the above including Digisoft.tv who kindly assisted a Student with the use of their 3D Camera and Dermot O'Keeffe Site Manager without whose help this project would not have been possible. Many thanks also to the Site Staff and Volunteers who offered assistance where possible and of a particular afternoon made sure I was not locked in onsite for the night! Billy McMullan who along with his family grew up in Fort Camden, enthusiastically helped provide maps, information and books which were of great assistance in my research on Fort Camden.
