Cape Lookout - Oregon Coast
Cape Lookout is a sharp rocky promontory along the Pacific Ocean coast of northwestern Oregon in the United States. It is located in southwestern Tillamook County, approximately 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Tillamook, just south of Netarts Bay. The promontory extends 1.5 miles (2.4 km) perpendicular to the coast, and is approximately 0.5 miles (0.80 km) wide at its base, tapering as it extends outward from the coast. Cape Lookout State Park is located on the north side of the promontory, which is part of the Siuslaw National Forest. Cape Lookout Road travels past the base of the cape. Cape Lookout is a member of Tillamook's Three Capes Scenic Drive.
The Cape Lookout Trail is a popular hiking trail, extending 2.5 miles (4.0 km) through Sitka spruce forest to the tip of the promontory. The cliff-top hiking trail offers views of Cape Kiwanda and Cascade Head to the south as well as Cape Meares, Three Arch Rocks, and Neahkahnie Mountain to the north. Migrating whales can also be seen, generally from December through June, as they pass the end of the cape.

Abandoned WWII Radar Station - Cape Meares Oregon
WWII Radar Station - Cape Meares Oregon
Today I went searching for the old Cape Meares Radar Station. The facility was in operation between 1942 - 1944. The official station ID was B-25 and used the SCR-270 type radar. It was one of 65 radar sites of this type up and down the Pacific coast of the United States to protect it from enemy ships and airplanes during WWII.
The site was difficult to get to as there are no real trails to speak of and I had to pretty much just crawl my way up the hill side to the site. Therefore I would not recommend this adventure to anybody who is not in top shape and cant scurry up a hillside in 2'-4' thick underbrush.

If you park on the West side of Cape Meares Loop at the Short Beach access, then walk North on Cape Meares Loop about 150 feet to a larger than normal transformer on a telephone pole. Go north about another 10-15 yards while standing on the West side of the Cape Meares Loop and look east up into the hillside, you should be able to spot the double chimney of the Radar Station. From there, you are on your own!

HD Going to the Top of Yaquina Head Lighthouse Inside Stairs Oregon Coast
The Yaquina Head Light, also known early in its existence as the Cape Foulweather Lighthouse, is a lighthouse on the Oregon Coast of the United States. It is located in Lincoln County, near the mouth of the Yaquina River near Newport at Yaquina Head. The tower stands 93 feet (28 m) tall, and is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon.
Built from 1871 to 1873 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Yaquina Head Light was first lit August 20,1873 and automated in 1966. It is active with an identifying light characteristic of two seconds on, two seconds off, two seconds on, and 14 seconds off.
A two-story keepers' dwelling was built at the time the lighthouse tower and its adjoining oil house were constructed. In 1923, a one-story keepers' house was added a short distance to the east. In 1938, a one-story building replaced the original two-story dwelling. Both dwellings and all outbuildings (a shed, a garage, etc.) were then demolished in 1984. The space is now a grassy area.
Yaquina Head typically had three lighthouse keepers under the U.S. Lighthouse Service; a Head Keeper, and First and Second Assistant. The Head Keeper as well as the First Assistant usually stayed in the two-story keepers' dwelling with their families and the Second Assistant was usually a bachelor. In 1939 the U.S. Coast Guard took over the management. During WWII 17 Servicemen were stationed at Yaquina Head keeping a lookout for enemy ships.
The lighthouse still uses its original 1868 French-made, 1st order, Fixed Fresnel lens; visible 19 miles (31 km) out to sea. In 1993, the lighthouse was listed in the National Register of Historic Places (reference number #73002340).
Cape Meares/Port Garibaldi - Gorgeous Oregon Series
I really would have loved to get aerial footage of Port Garibaldi, however the coastal wind was just too strong. It was slightly better at the Cape as the large bluff was blocking most of the wind until it shifted out of the south. At that point even there it was now too strong to fly. I was also attempting to take some timelapse of the waves and clouds and the wind blew over my tripod essentially ruining all the footage before it. So for now, enjoy a small taste of the Oregon coast. I will return to get some more comprehensive footage.
Cape Meares:
Cape Meares is a small headland on the Pacific coast in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. The cape forms a high steep bluff on the south end of Tillamook Bay, approximately five miles (8 km) northwest of the city of Tillamook. Much of the cape is part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department-administered Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint with three miles of hiking trails, which includes the Cape Meares Lighthouse. The cape is named after John Meares, a British explorer.
Port Garibaldi:
from visitgaribaldi.com - Garibaldi, Oregon is a small fishing village nestled against a hillside at the northern end of Tillamook Bay.
At the marina, commercial fisherman sling fresh Dungeness crabs, ling cod, rockfish, and even octopus up to the docks. Sport fishermen tell tales at the filet table and local watering holes about record Chinook, tuna and halibut. Kayakers paddle out to spot bald eagles, pigeon guillemots, and purple martins. While gulls circle above, harbor seals surface.
