Nowhere Video's Road Trips - Season 2 episode 026: Tillamook. (2000) Series creators Dan Bradley and Todd Hilton head for cheese country on the Oregon coast in the city of Tillamook. The first stop is the Tillamook Air Museum just on the edge of town housed in a World War II blimp hangar - one of the few remaining intact. On display is an amazing collection of vintage aircraft in flying condition. Next on the list is the Pioneer Museum established in the mid 30's and holds a fascinating collection of historic artifacts including early automobiles, a talking Smokey the Bear, preserved animals and more. Last is a tour of the Tillamook Cheese Factory for a look into the cheese making process and free samples! A true pride of Oregon state!

Just over a hundred years ago, several small creameries teamed up to form the Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA) to ensure the quality and reputation of cheese made in the Tillamook Valley.
The creameries that created TCCA knew that together, working cooperatively toward that goal, they could make even better products. Maybe even make a better life for themselves. They were right.
Today, we're made up of over 100 dairy farm families who own TCCA (many of whom are kin to the early pioneers), and the Tillamook brand can be found in stores from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine.
As much as we've grown, we haven't lost sight of our past. We still use the same cheddar cheese recipe, now over 100 years old. And we're still true to the values that brought us together in the first place. We treat every day as an opportunity to follow our founders' example, by working hard to make the highest quality, best-tasting dairy products. Dairy farming is what we love to do, and we're proud of our products. We just know you'll enjoy them as much as we do.

Drive to Vista House Over Looking the Columbia River USA
Vista House is a museum at Crown Point in Multnomah County, Oregon, that also serves as a memorial to Oregon pioneers and as a comfort station for travelers on the Historic Columbia River Highway. The site, on a rocky promontory, is 733 feet (223 m) above the Columbia River on the south side of the Columbia River Gorge. The building shows great sensitivity to its site in the Columbia River Gorge near Corbett, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Crown Point Vista House was completed in 1918. It was designed by Edgar M. Lazarus. With its marble interior and brass fixtures, some Oregonians at the time derided it as the $100,000 Outhouse. The original idea for an observatory at the site came from Samuel Lancaster, the consulting engineer for the Columbia River Highway. Lancaster proposed

Vernonia - Gorgeous Oregon Series
This was a bit of a crazy shoot. I only managed to get about 15 minutes of total footage. The drone was not making the local birds of prey very happy. So I cut the flight short to not only save my drone but to appease the native wildlife. Still an amazing site.

The Oregon-American Lumber Company (1917-1934) and its successors—the Oregon-American Lumber Corporation (1934-1953), the Long-Bell Lumber Company (1953-1956), and the International Lumber Company (1956-1957)—operated from the Nehalem Valley town of Vernonia. The company logged approximately 2.5 billion board-feet of timber from its 30,000-acre holdings in Columbia, Clatsop, and Tillamook counties.
O-A’s timber, considered one of the finest old-growth stands of Douglas-fir timber known to modern man, was notable for its uniformity of character and density. The company’s timber was generally 300 to 600 years old. In the era when an average stand of old-growth Douglas-fir held 55,000 board-feet to the acre and an excellent one contained up to 90,000 board-feet, the O-A tract had ten entire sections (a section is 640 acres) that contained or exceeded 100,000 board-feet per acre.
In 1921, Vernonia was an isolated outpost of 150 inhabitants. By 1923 and before the mill sawed its first log, the town’s population soared to over 1,500, making it the fastest growing town in Oregon and one of the chief economic engines of the tri-county region (Columbia, Clatsop, and Tillamook) in terms of employment, as well as in production and sales volume.
While never accounting for more than one percent of the national output of Douglas-fir lumber, O-A and its products stood out for many reasons. The mill was notable for its large manufacturing capacity—350,000 board-feet per eight-hour shift—and all lumber manufactured in the Vernonia plant was kiln-dried.
Previous conventional mill-siting practices of that era located most sawmills along major watercourses. O-A's Vernonia mill, like other huge mills that were springing up elsewhere in the state during the 1920s, differed in that it was an inland mill. This meant that it was served almost entirely by rail for raw material supply and outbound finished-goods shipments.
O-A’s primary markets were in the Midwest farm belt. Freight savings realized from dry-kilning its lumber enabled the company to ship its products to far more distant markets than its green-lumber competitors could afford to do. O-A also forged extensive strategic business relationships with the Great Northern and Northern Pacific railroads, thus expanding its vertical integration from land holdings to distribution points over 1,500 miles to the east.
When O-A removed its last log from the woods on August 27, 1957, the company was the last integrated steam-powered stump-to-boxcar lumbering concern on the West Coast. The mill sawed its last log on September 11, 1957, and shipped the last of its lumber on April 19, 1958. The mill was demolished shortly thereafter, and the company housing development was deeded to the City of Vernonia in 1960.
In 2002, the Oregon-American Company office building was added to the National Register of Historic Buildings. It is now the home of the Vernonia Pioneer Museum.

After beating the Tillamook Cheesemakers 58-51 this Saturday at home. The Dalles High School Riverhawks are going into the Semi-Final playoffs this season's OSAA Championship.
The semi-final game will be held at Hermiston High School on November 23rd at 5.30pm

Oregon ( (listen) OR-i-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region on the West Coast of the United States. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary along Washington state, while the Snake River delineates much of its eastern boundary along Idaho. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. Oregon is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843 before the Oregon Territory was created in 1848. Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles (250,000 km2), Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 27th most populous U.S. state. The capital, Salem, is the second most populous city in Oregon, with 164,549 residents. Portland, with 632,309 residents, is the most populous and ranks as the 26th most populous city in the United States. The Portland metropolitan area, which also includes the city of Vancouver, Washington, to the north, ranks the 23rd largest metro area in the nation, with a population of 2,389,228.
Oregon is one of the most geographically diverse states in the U.S., marked by volcanoes, abundant bodies of water, dense evergreen and mixed forests, as well as high deserts and semi-arid shrublands. At 11,249 feet (3,429 m), Mount Hood, a stratovolcano, is the state's highest point. Oregon's only national park, Crater Lake National Park, comprises the caldera surrounding Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the United States. The state is also home to the single largest organism in the world, Armillaria ostoyae, a fungus that runs beneath 2,200 acres (8.9 km2) of the Malheur National Forest.Because of its diverse landscapes and waterways, Oregon's economy is largely powered by various forms of agriculture, fishing, and hydroelectric power. Oregon is also the top timber producer of the contiguous United States, and the timber industry dominated the state's economy in the 20th century. Technology is another one of Oregon's major economic forces, beginning in the 1970s with the establishment of the Silicon Forest and the expansion of Tektronix and Intel. Sportswear company Nike, Inc., headquartered in Beaverton, is the state's largest public corporation with an annual revenue of $30.6 billion.Like its northern neighbor Washington, Oregon is one of the most socially progressive states in the country. Same-sex marriage in Oregon was recognized in 2013 before its full legalization in 2015, cannabis is legal for recreational and medicinal use in the state, and assisted suicide is also permitted by law in Oregon.
