FIVE CENTURIES OF CHIANTI CLASSICO HISTORY.
Tuscany is the birthplace of culture and distinguished men, of noble wines. In the municipality of San Casciano the Florentine Niccolò Machiavelli wrote The Prince and cultivated the vineyards and olive groves he inherited from his father. Here, Niccolò’s greatness became one with nature, authenticity and tradition. The plots and vineyards of the ancient Fontalle estate extend out from the tiny village across 27 hectares of specialised vineyard cultivation to produce the celebrated Chianti Classico DOCG, the Riserva, and other special selections of exclusive wines.
Splendid cypress and oak woods still surround this hamlet where time seems to stand still. The cellars beneath Machiavelli’s house have not changed from the description given in a document dated 1498: “…wine storerooms opposite the so-called albergaccio”. The ranks of small prestigious oak barrels are still used to slowly mature the wines of Vigna di Fontalle.
The historic Villa Machiavelli represents the oldest Chianti tradition. The estate is located at Sant’Andrea in Percussina, in San Casciano Val di Pesa in the province of Florence. Built 500 years ago, the cellar lies beneath the house where Machiavelli lived during his long exile from Florence.
In 1512 and from 1513 onwards, Niccolò Machiavelli was confined to the Albergaccio, which adjoins the cellar. Here he pursued his writing, tended his fields and passed his spare time in the famous Hosteria. Machiavelli ran his vineyards and his farms well, taking a personal interest in their management. Careful restoration has returned the Osteria (Albergaccio) to its original structure.
The kitchen and small rooms, furnished with much of the original furniture from the museum villa, provide visitors with a warm and welcoming environment in which to taste the simple dishes of traditional peasant cooking and the prestigious wines of Vigna di Fontalle and Poggio.

A Tuscan Dinner at Casa Machiavelli | Florence, Italy | We.Are.Wanderful
ON OUR second and last evening in Florence we went for dinner at the famed residence and estate of the famous Italian Renaissance historian, politician, diplomat, philosopher, humanist, and writer: Niccolo Machiavelli.
Now re-purposed into a restaurant and a museum, Casa Machiavelli is on the hilly part of Florence, in the middle of beautiful and expansive vineyards and olive orchards.

In June 2015, our extended family of 12 went to Rome for our Best of Italy tour.
For 12 days we've toured Rome and the Vatican City, travelled to southern Italy all the way to the Amalfi Coast, and to northern Italy all the way to the great lakes near the Swiss border.
On June 18 we arrived in Florence. The following day we did a walking tour along the famous streets and piazzas of Florence and visited its famous museums and churches. In the evening we went to the hilly outskirts of Florence to visit the house and estate of the famous renaissance man, Niccolo Machiavelli for dinner and some leisurely evening socials.
This is a short slideshow video of that Machiavellian dinner and evening..

Farmhouse in San Casciano Val di Pesa / Florence - Area Chianti and surroundings
This family-run farm is located in the Chianti hills surrounding Florence. The landscape is a mix of forests of pine and oak, olive groves and vineyards that stretch as far as the eye. The farmhouse is composed by the the main villa and a group of houses located in the hamlet. Besides the villa, there are 3 other holiday homes, while the owners - that produce wine and olive oil - and their sons live in the other apartments. The young daughter runs the agriturismo and she is always helpful with the guests. In the property there is a beautiful and panoramic swimming pool, a small church that can be used for cozy and intimate weddings and a lake for fishing. This farm is the perfect place for those seeking tranquility and serenity of a holiday in the countryside, away from noise and traffic, but at the same time very close to Florence (15 Km from the center) and other artistic towns as Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano. The dirty road ( 0,5 km.) that leads to the property is not suggested for sportive cars.
