Praying for Paris - Mass at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston
A mass was held in Boston at the Holy Cross cathedral in support of the victims in Paris. Here are some clips I took of that mass. I apologize for the poor audio, also I had shoulder surgery a couple of months ago and It's almost impossible for me to hold the camera steady after a couple of minutes. The Gospel was said in both English and French.
South Boston Cathedral Unveils Major Renovation
Within the United States, not many places of worship have the history and significance of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. As the largest Roman Catholic Church in New England, keeping that history alive while renovating the cathedral was no easy feat. Bringing all the major power and safety systems into the 21st century in an unnoticeable and seamless way was the goal of the NECA/IBEW Powering America Team of McDonald Electrical Corp. and IBEW Local 103 craftsmen and women.
Much like other historic buildings, churches too were built before modern electrical systems. Lighting was a necessity back then, as opposed to an experience. Now, not only does the breathtaking lighting stand out but the beautiful architecture is on full display as well.
USA: NEW YORK : CARDINAL JOHN O'CONNOR MEMORIAL
English/Nat
More than 10,000 mourners in New York have attended a memorial to Cardinal John O'Connor at the Cathedral in which he ministered for 16 years.
The Cardinal, who was the United States' highest ranking Roman Catholic, was returned to St Patrick's Cathedral on the first of a four day service in his memory.
He died on Wednesday at the age of 80 after fighting cancer for months.
Cardinal's O'Connor's body was brought down New York City's Fifth Avenue with an escort of police motorcycles.
His coffin was then carried through the brass doors of St Patrick's cathedral, brought up the aisle and placed at the front of the main altar.
A steady flow of mourners - estimated at about 10,000 - was soon marching past the open casket to bid a final goodbye to a Cardinal who held a special place in their hearts.
To the left of the cathedral doors, the Sisters of Life - an order of nuns founded in 1991 by the cardinal - stood awaiting his arrival.
At the end of the service, the lid of the coffin was removed to show the cardinal lying peacefully inside on red velvet.
A New York bishop under his ministry paid tribute to the Cardinal as an inspiration.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I can't recall a day when it wasn't a joy to be in his company, a challenge to respond to his leadership and a sense of accomplishment to assist in his ministry to the people of New York.
SUPER CAPTION: Bishop Patrick Sheridan, vicar general of the cathedral
The cardinal's body will lie in state all day Saturday and Sunday near his now empty chair - the official archbishop's cathedra.
The funeral Mass was scheduled for Monday afternoon.
The cardinal will be interred in the crypt beneath the cathedral's altar, where all the previous archbishops of New York are buried.
Outside the cathedral New Yorkers paid tribute to the colourful Cardinal.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I don't really feel like he's New York City's own, I think he's loved by a lot of people - not only in the city but in the state, in the country, in the world. He is not as big as the Pope but a lot of people know who this man was, so I think it's a mourning period for everybody in the world.
SUPER CAPTION: Tim Boras, New Yorker
Cardinal O'Connor will be interred next to Pierre Toussaint, a former slave who could become the church's first black American saint.
Before he died O'Connor supported efforts to win Toussaint sainthood.
O'Connor died on Wednesday night in his residence behind the cathedral after suffering from cancer for months.

Basilica of Notre Dame Pentcost Sunday televised mass 4 June 2017
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart serves as the mother church of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the United States. It is in the Basilica that Holy Cross religious profess final vows, that seminarians are ordained priests and where deceased religious are commended to God. Likewise, it is a place of worship and prayer for students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as for regular worshipers, pilgrims and countless visitors.
The new organ has 2929 pipes
The organ received a Notre Dame welcome on January 20, 2017: hymns, readings, an episcopal blessing and an inaugural concert performed by Professor Cramer.
The Murdy Family Organ is the fifth to accompany prayer inside Notre Dame’s main church, a story nearly as old as the University itself. The need for a larger and better instrument to keep up with the school’s growth and ambitions has driven each move for a new instrument.

Up To The Mountain | Boston Children's Chorus (LIVE at Boston Interfaith Service Healing Our City)
The Boston Children's Chorus - Up To The Mountain (LIVE at the Boston Interfaith Service, titled: Healing Our City)
On Thursday, April 18, 2013, an interfaith prayer service (titled Healing Our City) to honor victims of the Boston Marathon bombings was held at the Cathedral of The Holy Cross located only about a mile from the location where the two bombs went off, killing three people and injuring over 170 others. The service began at 11 a.m. at the cathedral, on Washington Street in Boston's South End. The renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma performed, and clergy from different faiths offered readings, prayers, and reflections.
President Barack Obama visited Boston, and spoke at the service.
As you begin this long journey of recovery, your city is with you, your commonwealth is with you, your country is with you... We will all be with you as you learn to stand and walk and, yes, run again. Of that, I have no doubt. You will run again, Obama said as hundreds of people gathered outside the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Up To The Mountain - [Written by Patty Griffin, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr]
I went up to the mountain
Because you asked me to
Up over the clouds
To where the sky was blue
I could see all around me
Everywhere
I could see all around me
Everywhere
Sometimes I feel like
I've never been nothing but tired
And I'll be walking
Till the day I expire
Sometimes I lay down
No more can I do
But then I go on again
Because you ask me to
Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice, oh
Oh, come and then go, come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so
The peaceful valley
Just over the mountain
The peaceful valley
Few come to know
I may never get there
Ever in this lifetime
But sooner or later
It's there I will go
Sooner or later
It's there I will go

USA: EDWARD EGAN BECOMES ARCHBISHOP OF NEW YORK
English/Nat
Edward Egan has been installed as archbishop of New York during a prayer service at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
As archbishop of New York, Egan is the spiritual leader of nearly two and a-half (m) million Catholics and is considered the most prominent Catholic in America.
He replaces Cardinal John O'Connor, who died in May.
Three thousand worshippers gathered beneath St Patrick Cathedral's immense stone arches and high stained-glass windows on Sunday to witness the majestic ceremony.
It began with a procession of 11 tall banners, one for each of the 10 counties in Edward Egan's new jurisdiction, plus one embroidered with flags representing the native lands of New York's Catholics.
Then, the cathedral's massive wooden doors were thrown open as Egan, eight cardinals and dozens of bishops, priests and others walked up the centre aisle.
Egan is the 12th man to head the New York archdiocese since its founding in 1808.
The archdiocese covers Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Sullivan Putnam and Ulster counties.
The previous archbishop - John Joseph O'Connor - died of cancer 11 days before Egan was appointed on May 11.
O'Connor had led the archdiocese for 16 years.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Small wonder that my heart is filled with gratitude to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for the great grace of coming to serve in the archdiocese of New York; small wonder that I seize the opportunity whenever I can to thank the Holy Father Pope John Paul II for this assignment; small wonder that I humbly stand before you, each and every priest, deacon, religious and member of the laity, this beautiful service to announce that I come only to serve you and all of the community in the three boroughs and seven counties of the archdiocese of New York, I come with joy to serve to the best of my ability.
SUPER CAPTION: Edward Michael Egan, new archbishop of the New York archdiocese
68-year-old Egan led the diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut, for 12 years before replacing O'Connor, but he also served for three years in New York under O'Connor in the 1980s.
In Bridgeport, Egan was hailed for reorganising parochial schools, increasing local recruits into the priesthood, and fund-raising.
But his tenure also included two dozen lawsuits against the diocese alleging sexual abuse by local priests.
All but one case predated Egan's arrival, but the incidents raised embarrassing questions about whether the abuse was covered up.
There will be a more elaborate installation Mass on Monday.
The 45-minute procession of 700 priests will take place before an audience of politicians and other dignitaries, including eight cardinals; First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton; her Republican opponent in the New York Senate race, Representative Rick Lazio; U-S Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas; Governor George Pataki; Senator Charles Schumer and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
