Ghostly Things Are Happening in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
Tuesday is Halloween, the spookiest day of the year. Some people like to use the holiday to visit scary attractions like haunted houses. In historic Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, a ghost tour takes visitors to places that are said to be haunted. But that’s no surprise to locals, who say they often see and hear paranormal activity. VOA’s Deborah Block has the spine-chilling story.

Inside George Washington's Masonic Cave
We originally thought these were the first ever images brought to the public domain showing the inside of this fascinating and historic cave located just outside Charles Town in Jefferson County, West Virginia. (It turns we were wrong; a solitary black and white picture first surfaced in 1966. See below.)
Deep within the cavern is an etched signature reading G Washington 1748. To get to this back chamber you must wade through a waist-deep, 50 feet long pool of cold water all-the-while stooping to avoid the low-lying ceiling.
While clearly some locals have visited and left their own marks on the walls over the past 270 years, what you see here has largely never been seen or documented by the outside world.
George Washington would have been 15 or 16 years old when he carved his name here. Even though there is no definitive proof this signature is genuine (there is no eye witness account of him etching it!), there is nothing to suggest it isn't. Indeed, George Washington's own diary records he was in this area in the spring of 1748 as an apprentice surveyor.
The first historical record of this signature's existence dates to 1833. While it's possible some unscrupulous hoaxer made the inscription in the 1830s, this theory requires some stretching of the mind, as GW's diaries had not yet been published at that point in time. In particular, his 1748 diary wasn't published until the 1920s. How would a hoaxer in the 1830s know precisely which year to scratch on the wall to suggest GW passed through as a teen?
Washington is also infamously known as the country's first cave vandal; he tended to leave his mark at key sites he surveyed (Natural Bridge, VA being a prime such example, and the Madison Saltpetre cave in Grottoes, VA being another).
The locale of this masonic cave must have been very important to Washington on a personal level. Several years after defacing its wall Washington started buying up large tracts of real estate in the immediate vicinity and eventually built a plantation and mansion (Bullskin) nearby. By 1770s two of Washington's brothers, along with several freemason brethren, purchased the very tract of land the cave sits on but did not develop it, lending credence to the historical report that Freemason lodge meetings were once held inside.
This area of the colony (Jefferson County was part of Virginia at the time) was the wild and boundless frontier of its day. George Washington's three biological brothers also purchased estates nearby, and in fact Charles Town, WV was founded by and named after his youngest brother, Charles.
According to (essentially now forgotten) history, George Washington and his freemason brothers at one point held lodge meetings inside of this cave (circa 1754). Numerous carved masonic emblems and symbols can still be seen throughout the cave. Masons continued to come here for some time due to the cave's connection with Washington. The last masonic celebration and meeting held inside the cave took place in 1844, nearly half a century after the death of the nation's first president. (This part of the cave's history was recorded in the 1866 Sidney Hayden book: George Washington and His Masonic Compeers.)
The pipes seen in our video were reportedly installed in 1928 by two local entrepreneurs who had hopes of turning the George Washington Cave into something of a tourist attraction. For the purchase of a hotdog one could enter the cave. Their endeavor, however, failed after just four years.
The cave was briefly described and surveyed by a caver (William Davies, Caverns of West Virginia) in 1949.
Another cave explorer, Dr. William Halliday, published the first and until now the only known photograph of the GW signature in his 1966 book, The Depths of the Earth.
Otherwise, the cave has been abandoned and neglected ever since.

King Arthur II & Prince Madoc's voyage to America in AD 562
Alan Wilson & James Michael present this lecture in a College of Kentucky - one of several that Alan lectured at in his lecture tour of 1992. James Michael sadly passed away in January 2008. Were it not for his dedicated work little of this Arthur research would be known in the USA today.
This full documentary contains not just a presentation lecture but also extra footage which has never been broadcast until now. You will be shown some of the vast amounts of evidence concerning the voyage of Arthur 2 and Prince Madoc sailing from Britain to America during the 6th century - almost a thousand years before Columbus.
Also covered later in the documentary is James Michael explaining the ancient British Coelbren alphabet, and its connection to many inscriptions found in the America.
The establishment crooks have written off this Coelbren alphabet as the creation of a Welsh-British Antiquarian called Iolo Morganwg during the19th century, yet the authors easily show in their books how this accusation is completely false and they give many examples of its use and notice CENTURIES prior to the time of the alleged forgery.
The documentary is not always good quality in parts as it was only converted in 2008 using old VHS tapes originally recorded in 1992. Despite this it is a brilliant and informative documentary of how history -- like most things -- has been manipulated and forgotten.
Alan Wilson is now 80 years old and still going strong. He and his life-long fellow researcher Baram Blackett have written and published nine books. They also have available several documentaries (old and new) documenting their researches and what happens when you discover things the establishment doesn't want discovered.
Their books published to date (oldest first) are as follows:
1 - Arthur, King of Glamorgan and Gwent.
2 - Arthur and the Charter of Kings.
3 - Arthur the War King
4 - Artorius Rex Discovered
5 - The Holy Kingdom
6 - The King Arthur Conspiracy
7 - Moses in the Hieroglyphs
8 - The Discovery of the Ark of the Covenant
9 - The Trojan War of 650 BC

The Most Haunted Town in America! Alton, Illinois
Spooks call this place home, and they have the potential of appearing at any time, to any person, at any location. It is said that limestone, a building material used in many Alton dwellings because of its supply nearby, holds psychic energy. The Illini Indians once dominated this place, along with the nearby convergence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. All this makes for a great ghostly paradise!
The 10 Most Evil Children Who Ever Lived
The 10 Most Evil Children Who Ever Lived.
1. Amarjeet Sada
The youngest murderer in history comes from India. Amarjeet Sada was an eight-year-old at the time from the Bihar state. Sada’s mother left her six-month-old daughter at the school she taught at and advised the police after discovering she had disappeared. The police would later find the baby’s body near the Musahari village, where Sada confessed to them that he had strangled the baby. The facts of the baby’s passing were gruesome, as Sada crushed the baby with a sizable rock.
2. Jesse Pomeroy
Born on November 29, 1859, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Jesse Pomeroy was given the award for the youngest person to be convicted of first degree murder. Committing horrendous acts against other children at just 11, he tied up and tortured several children pretending he was only going to play house. After he was busted, Pomeroy was sent to a reform school where he was expected to stay until he was 21, but he was released after just a year and a half on good behavior.
3. Mary Bell
When she was the tender age of 11 years young, this ruthless Brit was given the nickname The Tyneside strangler. She actually killed someone before her 11th birthday, when she strangled a four-year-old named Martin Brown to death.
Later that same year, Bell would continue her brutal killing spree and would commit yet another murder, but this time she had an accomplice. Bell, along with her friend Norma, killed a three-year-old named Brian Howe. The body was so badly beaten the cause of death was undetermined.
4. Andrew Golden & Mitchell Johnson
Johnson and Golden were students at Westside Middle School in Craighead County, Arkansas, when they showed up to school armed to the gills with firearms. They would shoot a shocking 15 students, killing five of them; four were students and one a teacher.
Johnson at the time was only 13, and Golden was barely 11, but the two were part of one of the worst killing sprees in a school in American History. The two became friends while taking the bus and were well-known bullies, both often talking about joining or forming a gang.
5. Lionel Tate
Lionel Tate would set a record that nobody should want. He became the youngest person in the United States to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of seeing parole. The sentence was handed down to him when he was only 13, back in 2001, although Tate committed the murder in 1999 when he was 12. Tate killed a six-year-old named Tiffany Eunick in Broward County, Florida.
6. Paul Henry Gingerich
This murder took place in the beautiful state of Indiana, where 12-year-old Gingerich became the youngest kid in the state’s history to be tried and sentenced as an adult.
Paul was meeting with friends in the town of Cromwell close to Michigan’s border. After visiting for a little while the three boys wanted to run away, but one of the friends said his dad would never allow it to happen.
7. Andrew Wurst
At the tender age of only 14 is when Wurst attended his eighth grade grad dance. Opening fire upon his classmates, he killed John Gillette and seriously wounded two other students and a teacher. Andrew was late when he went to the middle school dance, being held at a restaurant in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, along with his father’s .25 caliber pistol. Wurst left a suicide note at home, but instead opened fire on his classmates, deciding not to turn the gun on himself. Wurst would be convicted of third-degree murder and attempted murder to avoid a trial.
8. Joshua Phillips
Phillips was from the big city of Jacksonville, Florida. When Joshua was just 14, he murdered eight-year-old neighbor Maddie Clifton on November 15, 1998.
When Maddie had gone missing, the first suspect was Larry Grisham, another neighbor who had a criminal record with two sexual assaults. Joshua even offered to help in the search to take any heat off him.
9. Eric Smith
He was just barely into his teen years at 13, when he abused and killed Derrick Robie who was only four on August 2, 1993 in Steuben county, New York. Derrick and Eric lived in separate areas of the town, although they both went to the same baseball program only about a block from Derrick’s residence. Derrick’s mom was looking after her youngest kid when she made the regrettable decision to let her son walk that block by himself. It only took about five short minutes, then Derrick was persuaded off the sidewalk and led deep into the forest by Eric. That is where he would be sexually abused and murdered. Eric admitted to this horrific crime but never really gave a reason to why he went through with it. He would be sentenced to nine years to life and was convicted of second-degree murder.

THE WORLD'S MOST HAUNTED PLACE! | Waverly Hills Sanatorium Paranormal Tour
(Louisville, Kentucky) Producing my first documentary at THE Waverly Hills Sanatorium!.....Don't miss what we're up to next, HIT SUBSCRIBE to keep up! Aerial Views and Ghost Hunting at Waverly Hills Sanatorium, known by many as One of The MOST HAUNTED PLACES ON EARTH. Waverly is known world wide to be FULL of History & Paranormal Activity...
The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a closed sanatorium located in southwestern Louisville/Jefferson County, Kentucky. It opened in 1910 as a two-story hospital to accommodate 40 to 50 tuberculosis patients. In the early 1900s, Jefferson County was ravaged by an outbreak of tuberculosis (the White Plague) which prompted the construction of a new hospital. The hospital closed in 1961, due to the antibiotic drug streptomycin that lowered the need for such a hospital.
Waverly Hills has been popularized on the television show Ghost Hunters as being one of the most haunted hospitals in the eastern United States. The sanatorium was featured on ABC/FOX Family Channel's Scariest Places On Earth, VH1's Celebrity Paranormal Project, Syfy's Ghost Hunters, Zone Reality's Creepy, the British show Most Haunted, Paranormal Challenge and Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also popularizing Waverly Hills was the film Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium, released in 2006, which purports to document paranormal sightings at the site
Plans have been developed to convert the sanatorium into a hotel and conference center.
HISTORY:
The land that is today known as Waverly Hill was purchased by Major Thomas H. Hays in 1883 as the Hays' family home. Since the new home was far away from any existing schools, Mr. Hays decided to open a local school for his daughters to attend. He started a one-room schoolhouse on Pages Lane and hired Lizzie Lee Harris as the teacher. Due to Miss Harris' fondness for Walter Scott's Waverley novels, she named the schoolhouse Waverly School. Major Hays liked the peaceful-sounding name, so he named his property Waverley Hill. The Board of Tuberculosis Hospital kept the name when they bought the land and opened the sanatorium. It is not known exactly when the spelling changed to exclude the second e and became Waverly Hills. However the spelling fluctuated between both spellings many times over the years.
EXPLORATION:
One of the legends told of Waverly Hills involves a man in a white coat who has been seen walking in the kitchen and the smell of cooking food that sometimes wafts through the room. During their initial visit, they found the kitchen was a disaster, a ruin of broken windows, fallen plaster, broken tables and chairs and puddles of water and debris that resulted from a leaking roof. The cafeteria had not fared much better. It was also in ruins and the team quickly retreated. Before they could do so though, several of them reported the sounds of footsteps, a door swinging shut and the smell of fresh baked bread in the air. A quick search revealed that no one else was in the building and there was certainly no one cooking anything in the kitchen. They could come up with no logical explanation for what had occurred.
Ghost researchers are always drawn to the fifth floor of the former hospital. The fifth floor consisted of two nurses’ stations, a pantry, a linen room, medicine room and two medium-sized rooms on both sides of the two nurses’ stations. One of these, Room 502, is the subject of many rumors and legends and just about every curiosity-seeker that had broken into Waverly Hills over the years wanted to see it. This is where, according to the stories, people have jumped to their deaths, have seen shapes moving in the windows and have heard disembodied voices that order trespassers to “get out”.
There is a lot of speculation as to what went on in this part of the hospital but what is believed is that mentally insane tuberculosis patients were housed on the fifth floor. This kept them far away from the rest of the patients in the hospital but still in an area where they could benefit from the fresh air and sunshine. This floor is actually centered in the middle of the hospital and the two wards, extending out from the nurses’ station, is glassed in on all sides and opens out onto a patio-type roof. The patients were isolated on either side of the nurses’ stations and they had to go to a half door at each station to get their food and medicine and to use the restroom, which was located adjacent to the station.

UNSOLVED: The Murder of Jay Farley & Disappearance of Mazie Mae Sigmon-Palmer
ATTENTION: This feature contains previously unreleased material and information concerning each case as well as never-before-published photographs, graciously made available by the family and friends of Jay Farley and Mazie Mae Sigmon-Palmer. This feature was also produced with the complete cooperation of the WV State Archives as well as the West Virginia State Police who approved the release of previously unreported facts concerning Farley's murder and Sigmon's disappearance
PLEASE SHARE: Charleston, West Virginia July 15th 1979. Sometime between midnight and 1am John Eric Jay Farley and his date, 25-year-old Mazie Mae Sigmon-Palmer are seen together at the King's Inn nightclub at 1608 2nd Ave on Charleston, West Virginia's west side.
Earlier that evening the two had gone to the Roaring Twenties, another nightclub in Charleston located at 209 3/4 Hale St.
Farley and Sigmon had known one another for about 4 to 6 weeks. Their date that night started out as an ordinary night on the town something that was being enjoyed by many other youths in Charleston on that balmy, summer evening. However, what started out as an evening of fun and enjoyment would somehow go horribly wrong. Sometime after midnight Mazie Mae was seen walking to the second level of the King's Inn, reportedly to talk to a male acquaintance at the upstairs bar. Jay Farley would follow suit several minutes later.
Mazie Mae Sigmon-Palmer has reportedly not been seen since.
Nearly 5 years later and 30 miles away on May 10th 1984, the skeletal remains of Jay Farley were found by a coal mine's security guard roughly 1/10th of a mile off Cannelton Hollow Rd. in Fayette County. Farley had been shot and his hands bound tightly behind his back with tape. His killer, or killers, have never been identified.
Perhaps you can help shed some light these cases who's current status remains not only cold...but nearly frozen.
In you have any information on the murder of John Eric Jay Farley or the murder of Mazie Mae Sigmon-Palmer please contact Sgt. Michael Dickerson at the Gauley Bridge Detachment of the West Virginia State Police at 304-779-2161.

Abandoned Mall Charlestown USA, Utica, NY (Urban Exploring)
We explore what remains of Charlestown USA, one of the first outlet malls in the United States. Located in Utica, New York.
The building was constructed in the early 1900s and used as a munitions factory during WWI and WWII.
The building was converted into a outlet mall in the 1980s until its demise in the early 1990s.
Although it has been closed for over 20 years, there is still a lot of stuff in the building; clothes, computers, old files, and so on. Many stores still had signs, and the restaurants still had all of their kitchen equipment and glassware inside.
The condition of the building varies greatly from part to part. Some areas are flooded, moldy and falling apart, while others seem untouched.
It is clear that many people still frequent here as we found many new beer cans and drinks.

4th Annual Historical Jefferson County Tour 5/24/08
An interesting outing with Jim Surkamp as our tour guide. I have a couple errors in this version of the video due to so many Washingtons of the same or similiar names, these will be corrected when I split this in half and add some short video clips. I researched the comments in orange on-line but didn't get multiple sources and am not providing footnotes, etc.
